I think I will make a swashbuckler guide once the finalized book comes out.

Why do we need a guide for the most broken class in the game?

This was actually something I wanted to cover in my guide, the myth that the class is broken. It just has a lower floor for optimization than most people are used with, so with the same amount of effort, you get a better character than you would with another class. I call it TOB syndrome.

Theurge guide is going strong. I'm making good progress at around 15k words, but I thought I'd check in to see what all books people particularly would want in the guide. So far, I'm including all of the core, advanced, and ultimates, along with Blood of Fiends, Blood of Angels, Gods and Magic, the Inner Sea World Guide and Inner Sea Magic. This is what I use most of the time, but is there anything else that you may consider ubiquitous with your casters, be they arcane or divine?

Bastards of Golarion is apparently a good source for Mystic Theurges, and I'd make sure to link either this guide or this FAQ in your guide, since it has the early-entry stuff.

Edit...also not sure if it's a whole guide but I want a guide to using all the harrower feats and deadly dealer to make an uber card wielding caster.

Leadership --> Synthesist Summoner cohort referred further to as "Mount". Mount is a quadraped. Mount is a half-elf (focusing on increased evolution points) that takes Improved Natural Attack (Slam) once and Extra Evolution feat at every change Mount gets. Mount takes mount, pounce, limbs (arms)x1, limbs (legs) per every slam attack after 3, increased damage (slam), increased sizex2, increase dex, increase natural armor, and maximum slam attacks. When Mount is first picked up as a level 5 cohort, Mount should be:

Speed 50, (5d8+con HP and 4d10+8 Temporary HP) Mount, Pounce, Limbs (arms), Limbs (legs), Slam (4), Improved Damage (Slam), AC 21, +9/9/9/9 to hit, 3d6+3 per hit doing an average of 54 DPR

*never play a synthesist summoner as they are an overly complicated class that arn't that good // unless they are incredibly boring like Mount is to play*

How do you make a guide in google docs? I made up a 3 part Mystic Theurge Guide last year. It was huge.

There's a SMALL chance this Synth guide might turn into a full Summoner guide. I'm currently on the fence, since I have always kind of wanted to do one. Also in the future events, there WILL be an Investigator guide by me that is either Dangan Ronpa or Phoenix Wright themed.

Shadow Lodge

Well, since the only addition to this week's count would be N. Jolly's upcoming Investigator guide, I don't think it really is worth it updating.

@N. Jolly:Good to know that an Investigator guide is coming, as well as the potential for a full summoner guide. I'm sure they'll be interesting to read.

Hello fellow forum-browsers!

After browsing through a bunch of the guides, and the posts from the outstanding Guide to the Class Guides thread, it occurred to me that there are many PrCs/playstyles/radically class-changing archetypes that have been largely ignored in most of the guides, and that there are probably several people who would appreciate a guide to said archetypes/playstyles/PrC's, so I thought I'd make this thread to request someone make a guide, and to look at if you are thinking of making a guide to see what would be useful.

I'll start it off with the following three requests that fall into the three categories listed:
1:A Master Chymist PrC guide
2:A Strength-based Magus Guide
3:A Guide to Sword-and-Shield Fighting

So, post any requests you have, and thank you for your time!

Sword and shield guide gets my vote.

When the book comes out I'm probably going to do a warpriest, investigator, or bloodrager guide as those were the three that interested me in the playtest.

Need guides for Monsters. Too few online examples with class levels.

Most horrific Undead per CR.

Most dangerous Humanoid per CR.

Most arcane might Dragon per CR.

Etc.

That would be nice, there are a few (but not a lot)of GM-intended resources out there.

I saw that Horizon Walker was requested, and I've been working on a Horizon Walker guide for a few days now. Will post the first draft soon.

I'd like to see an actual guide to the Soulknife and not just a thread (one that hadn't been updated in a while, last I checked, though the forum it was on seems to be down right now).

Pairing it up with a guide to the Aegis and the Metaforge prestige class would be even better.

That is indeed a nice book for the concept. I'll be working a lot of it in as I continue. Thanks for the tip. I've got a similar guide write-up on the early entry requirements in the guide already, which hopefully will help with weighing the pros and cons of the various options for early entry.

I'm not certain yet, I've been putting that off until the bulk of mine was written. If you do have a link to your guide, though. I'd enjoy seeing your opinions on things as well.

A repost from last week, since I seem to have found the right place for it now:

There have been an unusually high amount of threads asking for archer advice lately. Would anyone be up for writing a guide that covers the gist of the archer build? Rather than being written in the typical class guide format, this guide would focus on giving one or more suggested builds for various classes. Readers would be introduced to the standard archer feats and get to compare and contrast the strengths and weaknesses of various classes to see which ones are the best fit for them.

Suggested classes include Fighter (Weapon Master), Monk (Zen Archer), Fighter (Archer), Ranger, Slayer, Cleric, Paladin (Divine Hunter), Bard, and Inquisitor

Hmm. I've been reviewing the Mammoth Lord myself. Maybe I'll try my hand at it

Updated Monk guide(s). Right now, you have a guide for CRB monk (Treatmont) which is pretty limited since it's core only, and I don't think anyone plays a core-only monk. There's a long post on Zen Archers (obviously a very powerful archetype) that is covered very well, and then a summary of different archetypes and feats, but no real guide on different archetypes combined with different combat styles.

So, one way to combine a monk guide would be like this:

How to build a grapple monk (Tetori)
How to build an high-offense monk (excluding Zen Archers)
How to build a high-defensive monk (Flowing Archetype comes to mind)

These would work on using different style, like Dragon style, the nerfed Crane Style and the other styles, and which styles go best with different goals like offense and defense.

Shadow Lodge

@Moondragon: The are a grand total of 7 monk guides here: Comprehensive Guide to the Guides Have you seen these? Revel's Guid is a broad monk guide.

Grand Lodge

I'd love to see a chart/cross-comparison guide of creatures that can be brought forth with Summon Nature's Ally. The few I've found in the Druid's guides are pretty out-of-date.

Broken Zenith wrote:

Yes, let's list them:

3 of them (THREE!!) are on Zen archery, which I said was already well done.

2 of them are on Qinggong...like, it's not even a real archetype, just telling you how to do it.

1 is the Core-only Treantmonk guide, which isn't an archetype, and virtually nobody plays core-only monk.

Which leaves us with only the Revel guide. In the revel guide, all you get is "this is a good feat, this is a bad feat" There isn't a guide to "how to build an offensive monk" or "how to build a defensive monk" in that entire guide. Which styles work well with which types of monks. It's like an encyclopedia, lots of general information, but nothing on what I was talking about on how to build an offensive oriented monk or how to build a defensive monk.

So, yes, there are 7 monk guides, and if you exclude Zen and since Qinggong isn't really an archetype in and of itself, you really are left with 1 guide for all monks, all styles, all abilities. You can't look at that Revel guide and go "oh, this is why I should use Dragon Style with XXXX archetype or Snake Style with XXXX archetype."

I would love to see a guide on DSP's Psion class.
Also, a guide on the Slayer class when it comes out would be amazing!

Would the Brother of the Seal PrC be worth a guide? I think it would be interesting to see it as one, though I'm not sure if it would play differently than a normal monk in-game.

I've begun work on a Mystic Theurge guide myself, since I really like the class. I'm beginning with just the Core Rulebook and expanding outwards, rather than taking everything and trying to build it that way. I feel it works a lot better that way.

Moondragon Starshadow wrote:
How to build a grapple monk (Tetori)

I would just like to see a general "how to optimize a grappling character/how to be the best at grappling" guide, in which the Tetori monk would be featured.

A master chymist guide may become a better idea when investigator comes out (if possible). Investigator actually fits master chymist significantly better than alchemist.

I'll second the grappling guide as well.

Another I'd personally like to see (and could be quite short possibly) is a control wizard strategy guide. Not really a class guide I suppose, but a guide that could be useful to those using said class. The basic idea is give a bunch of different scenarios and conflicts that one might be put in and with an average wizard give suggestions / opinions on what would be best to do in that scenario.

Like: "You have 4 team mates though out the room, each with a skeleton in front of them attacking them. What would be the most efficient spell or action in this scenario?"

Just help and information in how to play the so called "god" wizard.

Maybe a guide that fits a bunch of different niche builds. Like, improvised weapon characters, whip characters and maneuver builds.

I would love to tackle a Sacred Servant Paladin guide, will begin drafting in the next two days hopefully have a rough draft good enough to read by the end of the week

Looking forward to the mammoth rider guide. :D

Made it through all the class abilities, feats, and domains, only need to work on compatible archetypes, spells, and some sample builds.

Just checking in to let everyone know that the Mystic Theurge guide is still going strong. It got set to the wayside for a couple of months due to a very hectic move, but I'm making progress once again. It's rapidly approaching 60 pages, while covering only the CRB, APG, ARG, UM, and UC so far. Once I finish the Familiars section and the Feats analysis, I'm going to account for options in every campaign setting or companion book that I own or that I can get someone to loan me. Sadly, I'd imagine that this will take another solid month or so to completely wrap up. Hopefully it's comprehensive enough that people find it useful.

As an aside, given the massive amount of options and text to sort through, do you guys believe it would be useful to include sample builds? I've been considering including sample statblocks, followed by a build breakdown into how and why it works. I was especially considering aiming for a CRB PFS legal theurge so that people can try one out in pfs without having to buy anything extra. Does that sound like a good idea?

If you could include the best early entry options that would probably make most people happiest. Especially since the primary way to do it, aasimar racial options are going to be gone in a month.

That's the goal. I've got the main routes to entry split into five main categories

A: Racial SLA and Divine Class Feature for SLA.
B: Racial SLA and standard class leveling.
C: Divine Class Feature and standard class leveling.
D: Racial SLA and Divine Class Feature using a dip level for qualification or boosts.
E: Standard leveling of both classes

Everything that varies in it's usefulness based on method of entry is rated separately for each entry method.

This morning I finished writing my notes on UC feats, placing the guide at 83 pages long. Next up, Familiars, Arcane Bonds, and what to do with low level eidolons and animal companions!

I've barely made it out of the PRD assumption, if at all, and the guide has yet to be edited in any significant manner. But given the Aasimar and Tiefling vanishing from PFS play in a month, do ya'll think it would be worthwhile to put the rough draft up for the time being? If there's a positive response, I'll try to get a draft on google docs by this evening.

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 32

Given that Aasimar and Tiefling will be no longer options in PFS as of next week, I figure that now is the time to get at least the rough draft available. So here we go.

Blurring the Lines for Arcanes and Divines

Please keep in mind that this is an extremely rough draft. There is still a vast quantity of work I have yet to do, not the least of which is correcting my atrocious formatting. Currently it's showing up for me at 98 pages, which I'm assuming will be between 1/2 to 2/3 of it's final length.

TODO:
In depth familiar and arcane bond analysis
spell list comparisons
archetypes
finish covering additional campaign setting books and player companions
finish actual class comparisons
cover the minor uses for eidolons and animal companions
reevaluate single call ratings based on whether the opposing options can be used for early entry
incorporate the advanced class guide once released
correct formatting
find graphics to break wall of text issue
cover wild-blooded bloodlines in detail
incorporate the traits web enhancement
include links to other guides that are more class specific based on theurge goals
format and include a minimum of four sample builds per entry method
begin/finish chapter on the value of dipping levels for theurges
begin/finish chapter on progressing theurges after you've maxed out the prestige class
potentially include notable third party content
sleep.
