Adding "+" modifiers together

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

Ok, if use my Short Sword in an attack I reveal this card to roll my Melee skill (which is Strength +2) my Strength is curently 1d6 +2.

Does this count as rolling 1d6+4?

All modifiers are added together once. So yes, it would be 1d6 +2 +2 = 1d6 +4.

Wow thanks for the fast reply!

Kyra seemed too tough for most of the creatures in the Approach to Thistletop scenario so I wanted to check. I'm glad we played it correctly but isnt she a little overpowered right now? Not that I didn't mind plowing through those creatures for once!

No not at all. She might be good at fighting but that doesn't mean she is good at defeating barriers or acquiring boons. Also, if you think Kyra is good at fighting, check out Valeros.

Thanks again for the fast reply!

What you say is very true and I never thought of it that way.

Nice to see I'm allowed to kick some butt!
It felt great after having our asses handed to use a few times earlier... before I gained weapons proficiency.

This is wrong.

You only add what is on the card to your melee or strength check.
the case of the Short Sword, which says add 1d6 to your Strength or Melee check, If you only had a Strength of d6, and did not have Melee Strength +2, your roll would be 1d6 + 1d6.
1d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + (1) = 6

If your strength is d8 and you have Melee Strength+2, that would make your roll 1d8+2 + 1d6.
1d8 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 2 + (1) = 9

Now if you had a +1 Short Sword, your roll would be 1d8+2 + 1d6+1.
1d8 + 2 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 2 + (3) + 1 = 14

The original answer is correct but possibly incomplete. If you Strength is 1d6+2 and your Melee is Strength +2, you melee value would be 1d6+4 plus and additions from the shortsword.

You are correct. I misread the original question.

1d6 + 1d6

1d8+2 + 1d6

1d8+2 + 1d6+1

While my answer wasn't complete, yours doesn't answer the question. The question was, with a Strength of 1d6 +2 and a Melee: Strength +2 what do I add together. Technically I forgot the add in the 1d6 for the Short Sword, because I was answering the main question of what do do with the modifiers. So a complete answer would have been 1d6 + 2 + 2 + 1d6 or a total of 2d6 +4.

Your tangent into different strengths, whether or not you have Melee: Strength +2, and different cards did nothing more then complicate a simple answer.

I told you I misread the question.
