How do i keep my undead?


Advice


7th level wizard, animated a skeleton of a 12 HD creature.

I want to make sure i keep him, what do i do?


feed him and walk him everyday....

by "keep him" do you mean
a- "not have him taken away because animating the dead is inherently evil and my GM wont tolerate it in his games?"

b- make him harder to kill so he doesn't die quickly....

not much we can do about "a"

for "b" I'd suggest loading him out like he is a fighter some armor, weapons, etc. And have him hang back as your personal bodyguard, instead of charging at everything.


Make it a Bloody Skeleton. If the double HD cost of Bloody Skeletons starts to eat into your control pool, cast Command Undead on it until it succeeds. Command Undead least for days per CL so you should be good for awhile, just remember to refresh it or if your paranoid about it getting dispelled stack 3 or 4 (or more) on it.

Now, question: are you a necromancer?

Otherwise, you'll need something that can channel negative energy in some way.

I am more fearfull of someone taking mental control of it, and having it attack me.

(DM is a great guy, just want to be prepared for any posibliites)


Make sure you always memorize Command Undead. If someone takes your undead from you, take it back.

Battles between necromancers often come down to who has more ways of gaining control, rather than somehow trying to keep control.

The only other way of maintaining control is to somehow give your undead Channel Resistance, or beef up their Will saves. The problem with that is that once you give them those enhancements, if someone still manages to take them from you, then it's harder for you to take control back.


There's little you can do about that. It involves control rolls, I believe.

Do you have command Undead? Or a spell to maintain control? Otherwise you have a ticking time bomb. (there's an Order of the Stick segment that illustrates this)

Maybe have a dialogue with your GM concerning how you plan on using Animate Dead and such. It's an incredibly powerful spell, and can cause hiccups if a GM isn't planning around it. Just an idea.

Just stack Command Undead on it. They last awhile so you should be able to pile up a ton and make trying to get rid of your control a terrible use the enemy's resources since they'll have to get rid of every instance of the it to end your control.
