Play with a couple

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

So, my significant other and I are building a married couple team, and we would like to hear your suggestions on what to build or any interesting feats or traits. We are leaning towards the Fighter/Rogue team, but we are open to any suggestions. We were inspired by the Lover's Vengence spell and thought it would be great to work off of that.

We would sincerely appreciate the help, thank you.

Playing a Fighter and Rogue team might give you some chances to cover the weaknesses in those classes often noted on the message boards. Honestly I think some other combinations such as Bard any anything else including Bard might be more fun. If you're planning to be involved in melee you should probably check out teamwork feats, which Cavaliers and Inquisitors are both good at. You also might want to consider the Bodyguard feat. If one of you has a mount of animal companion you might also consider Gang Up, especially if one of you has sneak attack.

Menacing weapons are good for teaming up. The Summoner is good for group tactics, and as previously mentioned, the Bard is a master of teamwork. When looking at the Bard be sure to consider great spells such as Gallant Inspiration. I think it would be great to see a pair of Bards, possibly with one multiclassed, where one performs Dirge of Doom while the other performs Inspire Courage. You could be a duet like the White Stripes, only intent on killing monsters and taking their treasure.

A battle couple!

Any other players? If so, what roles are they covering?

two rouges can be pretty nasty especially if they can flank.

Build the fighter as a Two-handed fighter using a x3 or x4 crit weapon. Build the rogue as a crit-fisher with butterfly sting. Rogue gets the crit and hands it off to the fighter who lays down HUGE damage with their high crit weapon. Teamwork feats are the bomb, get them early and often. I'd recommend Precise Strike and Outflank for this pair.

You could do different Fighter/Rogue builds. Like one Fighter2/RogueX and the other Rogue2/FighterX. Or a Rogue and a Ranger. That way, the lack of skills from the fighter would be compensted by either rogue levels, or by being a ranger :)

:)

Me and my fiance did cavaliers once. Teamwork feats can get nasty if you set up right.

Silver Crusade

If you're high enough level to have the wealth, then intelligent Rings of Friend Shield as matched wedding bands!

It's really a single intelligent item with two 'ends' in our reality. It is built as a single item, and has a single pool of uses/day for any of its abilities, useable by either wearer.

Make it's Special Purpose the sanctity of marriage, or dedicated to the god of marriage or love, and if you can afford it make the Special Purpose Power true resurrection 1/month. Take about eternal love! Not even death do us part!

Best of all, the item can use its own abilities using its own actions (including the shield other power of the ring). Because the item can communicate with its wearer, and because it has two wearers, then the couple can always communicate as long as they are on the same plane.

Since the item treats marriage as sacred, then it can prevent infidelity simply because it would inform the spouse of any wrongdoing. Whether you see that as a good thing or a bad is up to you!

It also has a lot of relationship experience and advice. Since communication between the spouses is by telling the ring to pass a message on, then it can use its Diplomacy to communicate in the best way. Think of all the marital problems caused or exacerbated by a lack of communication!

Oh, and it'd be great for an adventuring married couple too! And a great source for DM input/information/role-playing!

Given the effects of the Lover's Vengeance spell it might be most effective if your PCs were some sort of undercover swingers who infiltrate enemy organizations (say a rival Thieves Guild), get intimate with them, and then assassinate them. This sounds like a job for devotees of Calistria, maybe a temple prostitute and her "death pimp" or jealous lesbian lover. You'd want to work with the GM in advance to determine what the requirements are for a creature to have "wronged you in some way", but sexual indiscretions might fit the bill. If this seems interesting I suggest listening to some inspirational music such as "The Ballad of Roger Moore and Betty Coltrane" by Nick Cave and "Ex Lover's Lover" by Voltaire.

Even if that's too weird you could check out some of the traits and feats in Ultimate Campaign (available on the PRD). One trait, Kin Guardian, would help increase the benefits of Aid Another and the Bodyguard feat by +2 when used to benefit a family member. This would effectively increase AC for both of you by +4 as long as you remain adjacent to each other. UC also has a bunch of story feats and background elements to represent love, family, etc.

A lot of families have pets, so getting animal companions and familiars might make sense. This can be as simple as one PC having a cat and the other having a dog, or it could be more exotic. If any of these pets are eidolons or animal companions they could get in on the teamwork feats and the Bodyguard action. A mount or bird can also help concentrate your attack power and let you qualify for easier flanking via the Gang Up feat. With or without pets I'd expect that Broken Wing Gambit + Paired Opportunists could be a nice combo, potentially giving you all an AoO with a +4 to hit when one of you is attacked.

One other thing I'd consider is making your "team" self sufficient. The most important aspect of this is probably healing. A Rogue might be able to do a little healing via wands, but a Bard would be better at it. Paladins are great self healers and can help their friends too. Clerics and Oracles are obviously great at healing. Alchemists can do alright, and a Vivisectionist Alchemist might give you the sneak attacks you want with the healing and utility you need.

I guess there are so many combinations that it might help to know what your roleplaying concept or theme is. My girlfriend and I have taken to making PCs who work together, and there are really a lot of possibilities.
