One-time grant of replays is live: how is this going to work in practice?

Like me, it still shows the correct amount of stars when you post here in the forums.

And here I thought my last two specials and VC session were waived for extraordinary contributions to PFS in some way. Should I stop the printer now that I've got sheets of my ID card coming off of it?

ok, just checking... sometimes I can be a little slow and confused when I try to understand "new" rule/policy changes...

Currently (prior to this announcement) I have "recharged" all my Judge Star Re-plays (so I have?/had? 5 of those). I have a couple "Traveler in An Unstable Timeline" Boons, as well as "An Exchange of Secrets" Boon...

does this announcement effect those Replay opportunities? Are they lost/replaced or are they still available options?

This weekend I have the option to Replay two games (and was considering using two of my Star Replays). If I decide to actually play in those games - will those Replays come off my Star total, or off of the 30 I got from this Grant? Or off of both? Should I use the "Unstable Timeline" Boons I have?

Thanks for helping me understand this!

These replays also count for re-GMing a scenario for credit? Most of my PFS career has been as a GM, so my number of replays is a lot smaller, and I'll likely need to use some to GM anyway.

Tonya said upthread that other types of replays are unaffected. So I would use GM star replays first, since you can recharge them, then any existing paper replay boons, and then these new replays.

Thanks Tiger!

that's what I was figuring too, but I wasn't sure about the Judge star replays - whether they had been rolled into the new grant, as it looks kind of like the total is calculated with Stars added to a total that comes from games played/run. Just wanted to be sure I wasn't double dipping...

Well, poop, I only got 20. I wonder if it grows as I run stuff for PFS 1 and Starfinder.

When PF2 starts in a week, why not just grant unlimited replays to all PF1 scenarios? Why make even MORE work for Paizo to track which replays are which?

Paizo isn't making any new PF1 scenarios. So, once you've played them all, you are forced to switch to PF2 or quit. A small amount of replays is not really going to do much except make more work and delay the inevitable forced switch over.

Is it possible to make the new scenarios in both PF1 AND PF2 format?

They answered this in this blog post.

Replay for Seasons 0–10

Ah, but essential as rarity may be, it's hardly captured the public discourse like replay—specifically, how replay opportunities are going to work in the current PFS campaign once August hits and we stop producing new scenarios for the first edition of the game. We've collected a lot of feedback, data, and opinions from many of you on this topic, and we've taken all of that, as well as considering what's best for the health and stability of both campaigns, and come up with a framework that we think will allow both PFS campaigns to be as strong as is feasible.

First, all of the replay options that are currently available will continue to be so. This includes GM star recharges existing convention boons that offer replay options and the current stable of replayable (evergreen) adventures. We all agreed that it was important not to take anything away from the first edition Pathfinder Society campaign; we want to build on what everyone's familiar with, not replace the working systems players and GMs already know.

Secondly, we'll be taking a snapshot of all of the recorded organized play sessions on Paizo.com in mid-July. It will be imperative to make sure all of your game sessions are recorded by this point in time, as this snapshot will be set against an activity scale that will determine the number of "free" replays that are applied to your account. Essentially, the more regularly that you have played and GM'd, the more Pathfinder first edition replays you will be granted. This will allow those who are nearing the end of their playable material to have a similar gameplay "lifespan" to players who have just recently joined the organized play campaign.

Finally, you may recall from our April blog that we will be introducing a type of digital currency called "Achievement Points" for Pathfinder's second edition organized play campaign. For the purposes of discussing replay, the main thing to note is that you will earn Achievement Points every time you play a PFS second edition game, in roughly the same amounts that you gain XP. There will be a variety of things you can redeem these Achievement Points for, such as the uncommon items mentioned above, including first edition replays. The more you play or GM for the new edition, the more potential replay opportunities you'll accrue for the first edition campaign.

They also mentioned in other blog posts that they did not feel that completely ignoring enforcement of replays for previous scenarios was a valid option. While this will allow some replayability, it will also help lead people into both Starfinder and the new version of Pathfinder.

I doubt if Leg o' Lamb could be good for five minutes, let alone five years ...

We have a PFS game coming up that I would really like to play in since I don't have any home games or real friends here. Do I have to wait until Thursday to use my replays or can I use one this weekend?

Seeing that it's not up and running yet, i.e. no way to print out a replay voucher, looks like you'll have to wait. You'll need to use some sort of replay boon until then.

I don't have any other replay options and the session started already, but thanks for answering.

Will these be valid for use at Gencon? I may sign up for a few more games with these replays burning a hole in my pocket. :)

Also, will the existing GM recharge boon be fillable/usable every year going forward? Or is the Season 10 one I've got filled out the last recharge I'll have of my "real" GM stars?

Shoot me an email on the unreported game so I can again see if I can get the GM to report it.

I gotta I'm a little saddened that GMs didn't get more "replays" for chronicles when they GM the same scenario 20 times over. It'd be nice to finally get credit for something you could literally run blindfolded. I've GMed almost 300 games and a few scenarios I've done 4-10 times each because of their popularity at conventions. I know I can use my GM stars for it, but it'd be nice to have that little bit extra.

To be fair the reason to base it off scenarios played was more to extend the longevity of the campaign than to reward mass-playing.

I was personally hoping they'd be a bit more restricted. I know a lot of people are stockpiling them for seeker & module content rather than helping with the sudoku that is finding a playable scenario for regular games. Which goes against the original intent somewhat... that said if I had less replays up my sleeve I'd probably feel the same way. That said, I can't see how to do that without it getting way too complex so I guess that's why the simple answer.

Yeah, our GMs have used up their stars to replay Season 4 Runelord adventures, Bonekeep levels, and especially replay Runecarved Key so that they have an official level 20 Seeker. Not difficult when they reset every year. The lodge members are debating on helping the newer players since we have tables of 3, but I don’t expect much.

Ok, “how is this going to work in practice?”

In other words, how does a player use these Replays?

I have had several players assure me that “you just sit down and replay, and the system handles it. Checking to see if you have played this scenario before and automatically reducing your number of available Replays”...

This brings up several questions on HOW “the system” does this... but I’ll skip that for now.

Has anyone seen this working yet? Anyone used, or seen anyone use, one of the “Grant Replays”?

When the Replay widget appears, you will be able to "select" replay as an option to purchase for a chosen character. This will remove one from your pool and provide a voucher with your character number on it. You can provide this voucher to your GM at the start of the replayed game. This voucher should be kept with the replay chronicle to indicate it is valid.

EDIT: Also, despite the title, replays are not live yet.

Does this mean that players currently "using replays" from this grant - actually aren't? If so, this is likely to cause some problems...

It means GMs/VCs will need to correct the reporting when it is live.

I foresee it being an honor system thing: print off the certificates once the website is capable of assigning them for the characters you used your replay on.

Any more word on claiming/using replays? I was planning on using one of mine this Monday.

Since it's almost 2 months past the roll out, and it appears that they abandoned the build-out for this system, my guess is that you just play and go on the honor system. If you have 30 replay points, replay 30 games and hope the system just auto-deducts the points. Let the person reporting the game know.

I think they don't have any bandwidth to care about 1st edition stuff anymore.

EDIT: Huh. Why does my name now have NO stars? It should have 3. Weird.

Or it's the same Boon generating technology that PFS2 PTP and AcP Boons use and will happen as soon as that technology gets sorted out having nothing to do with editions or feelings about a given edition.

Has the system running smoothly?
