Let's see how fast this robot can chug through this (yet again) very long day! GO GO GO!

PS: I have a treat receipt that says "frappucino" all over it :9

Have you tried the cappuccino flavored chips? They're okay, but a little strange on their own. I think if you made a light whipped cream/marscapone dip though, it'd be a little amazing.

My roommate put together a bowl of fresh pineapple chunks, banana slices, plain Greek yogurt, and a new chocolate/peanut butter granola. She said it was amazing, and it sure smelled that way.

Put it into a blender and add Gin?

( and now for a little video entertainment )

I've finally pushed through one HUGE project tonight. Now let's see if I can get MORE before the end of the week :D

Is project a healthy way to say pizza?

Oh man, right now I could eat a whole project with bacon and extra cheese.

Yesterday I made ratatouille. It was delicious. I am glad I made a large pot of it and have leftovers.

This very Anglo guy from New England made his internationally famous Baja-style fish tacos for dinner.

They were awesome.

I never understood fish tacos? I can't even imagine how that would taste but it sounds horrible...

Fresh fish simply prepared is heavenly, but I was raised here in SW Florida with fresh seafood as a regular course. As a kid we used to make an half-day of boating out into the Gulf and catching snook, grouper, and redfish/red snappers. FWIW, I also think shrimp tacos are divine, but crayfish/crawfish (from Louisiana) tacos are even better.

Oh I love fresh fish caught on Lake Michigan and anywhere else I suppose (I had some great fish in Texas). But on a taco shell?

Baja-style fish tacos are very much unlike Tex-Mex tacos.

They're in soft corn tortillas, not taco shells. There's no cheese or tomato-based salsa. Traditionally, the fish is beer-battered and derp-fried, but I either grill ir pan-fry the fish.

Baja-Style Fish Tacos

Fresh mild white fish filets (I use catfish or tilapia usually)
Herb rub for the fish
Green cabbage, shredded (like for coleslaw)
Avocado, sliced
Crema for fish tacos (see below)
Corn tortillas

1. Rub the fish with your favorite spicy herb rub. (I use Stanley's Chicken Spike that I picked up at Stanley's BBQ Pit It in Tyler, Texas.)
2. Pan-fry the fish in a little oil or grill the fish.
3. Warm the tortillas either by a short pan-fry or wrap them in a wet paper towel and microwave for 30 seconds.
4. When the fish is done, put a chunk of the fish on a tortilla, drizzle it with crema, the put in shredded cabbage and some avocado slices.
5. I usually roll the taco in aluminum foil or wax paper to hold it together. (I learned that trick from my local taqueria.)

Crema for fish tacos
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup sour cream
2 cloves of garlic, pressed or minced
juice of 1 lime
1 Tbsb of Sriraccha (or to taste)

Mix all in a bowl until smooth.

I always have leftover cabbage and crema, and I usually mix them together for a Baja-style coleslaw to serve as a side dish.

Ohhhh!!! Ok language differences per region maybe? That sounds like a delicious fish wrap sandwich recipe. Yeah I usually envision that hard tortilla shell when you say taco.

The difference between a wrap and a soft taco is pretty much just the position of the tortilla. Soft tacos are usually filled as full as you can get, so you can't wrap them shut, so you have to hold and eat them in a taco shape. At least in my experience.

Tacos and enchiladas are traditionally made on corn tortillas. Burritos and fajitas (and "wraps") are pretty much always on wheat tortillas.

As far as I can tell, hard taco shells are an invention of the US snack foods industry in the 1950s, and nobody uses them in Mexico or Central America.

Today I made the fantastic NAAN BREAD PIZZA!

One garlic naan, with a mixture of tomato paste and (a very little) olive oil smeared on top and cheese grated over that. 5 minutes under the grill and ready to eat!

Also added chili sauce; may leave it out next time.

Made cheese-garlic twice baked potatoes last night. Three of us ate 6 potatoes.

My cooking is not a diet aid. :(

Finished up 10 miles on Saturday after crazy crazy Gen Con week. There is pulled pork waiting in the crock pot at home :9

I've wracked up about 20 more miles in running since my last post, had Texas Sized Nachos with friends (discounted, yay happy hours!), saw Expendables 3, and today was surprise birthday lunch and I had a volcano burrito! I have a 12 mile run Friday morning before PAX, and I think I might actually be able to make it through my Half, guys! :D

Happy Bootday, Rubit! YAYYYYYYYYYY!!! {does Kermit flurry of flipper flailing}

Happy birthday, Chris!

Well, I attempted a "get back in the saddle" jog on Wednesday. It was my first attempt at running since I experienced very bad knee pain back in late June. Unfortunately, I only got about 15 minutes into it before I had to stop due to knee joint pain. I'm still limping two days later, and I can't cross that leg without more pain.

I think I need to see my doctor about getting fitted for a knee brace. I'm also starting to think that my running days may be over. Very frustrating. I'm going to start taking very long walks for exercise instead. Since my town is very hilly, inclding fast hill climbs should be a way to keep the aerobic content up.

On a brighter note, I made a delicious Sri Lankan style curried salmon with dal and basmati rice for dinner last night. My family loved it, and I'm enjoying the leftovers for lunch today.

On another food-related note, we received our order of two bushels of local organic peaches from our Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) farm share yesterday. Canning extravaganza set for the weekend!

Yesterday was a sad day.
My Wife and I went to an all you can eat pancake place and I got full after my first plate :'(

Hey guys! Robo-PAX update here! I did 12 miles on friday and will be tapering the next couple weeks. There have been some great community panels this weekend that I've attended and I'm so excited about the ideas and information gathered here! Thinking of you guys and what cool stuff I can bring back from this. :)

Tonight is robohusband's birthday dinner and I suspect cheesecake will happen. Woooot!!

Huzzah for cheesecake!

Labor Day family cookout for dinner tonight. I grilled sweet corn, potatoes, and New York strip steaks. Mrs. Haladir made an amazing salad of fresh tomatoes, blanched beets, and fresh peaches. And our kid made peach cobbler with real whipped cream for dessert.

Ooof. Had Mom's homemade French toast (plus bacon and coffee) with the parents this morning, ate way too much. As a bonus, a temporarily satiated Stoo'Mak the Terrible makes for better writing.

This week I have to be spot on with eating, so I prepped myself all kinds of yummy lunches for this week. Today I have grilled chicken caesar salad, strawberries, a pepperoni stick and some pirate's booty.

The race is on Sunday.

*gulp*

You can doo eeet!

I've discovered that if you need a hot buttered rum, coconut rum makes it delicious. I may go after the flu again if I get this every time.

You got this. This is when the training pays off.

On Sunday take it one step at a time and enjoy the view

Didn't get a chance to post yesterday, but just wanted to drop by and say I did it! We followed up the race with a nice afternoon in Capitol Hill with great food, patios and I even picked up a seasonal pint of ice cream from Molly Moon's (nectarine blondie!). This week is a well deserved off week to be topped off with camping this weekend :)

Congratulations.
What was your time?
And on a scale of 1 to 10, how much pain are you in?

Paizo Glitterati Robot

My actual time ran was 03:30:14, but I crossed the finish line at 03:50:27 (there were lots of stops and cake and sasquatches!). Part of the reason my time is so slow is that towards mile 11 my hip flexors started giving me a LOT of trouble (on a 1-10 scale at the time, probably an 8; about 3 hours afterward I'd say a 4). But I'm pleased with myself. :)

Unfortunately, last night I just got news that someone running the half with me didn't make it to cross the finish line. I'm hoping to participate in the memorial run for them in November, should it take place.

I cooked some chicken Sunday night, simple thighs dabbed with oil and salt and pepper, browned the sides then added garlic and white wine reduced it with some chicken broth then added some vegetable demi glace to thicken it up and it came out well served with rice and salad and drank kir royals. nice dinner.

My wife, daughter, and I went apple picking at a locak U-Pick orchard on Saturday. We came back with a half-bushel of fantastic apples of many different varieties.

My daughter made an apple pie last night. She didn't bake it yet-- she's going to pop it in the oven after she gets home from high school today, and we're going to take it to the weekly Wednesday potluck at church tonight.

I am really looking forward to trying it! I'm normally the pie-maker of the family, and this is her first attempt at one. I have to say that the pie crust looked like it turned out perfectly.

Yay! for Chris, but... omigosh, a possible memorial run for her acquaintance/friend definitely sounds Final-ish. :(

Congrats, Chris, on accomplishing the half-marathon!

And sorry for your loss.

Two years have passed, I've ran two more half-marathons, a Spartan Super, and a number of smaller races. In less than 2 weeks I run another Spartan, and soon after another half (my last race for this year).

Planning for more Fall/Winter hikes at the moment and enjoying all the good new music around me. Beyond the Fleeting Gales by Crying just came out today and Kodama by Alcest is so beautiful.

I hope I get to post more, thread! It's been too long!
