Tengu and Bladed Objects

Advice

As my first character's level increases I am starting to think about what my second character is going to be. Thinking knifemaster tengu, but have a question: does the tengu racial trait Sword trained apply to starknives and kukris?

Grand Lodge

Swordtrained: Tengus are trained from birth in swordplay, and as a result are automatically proficient with swordlike weapons (including bastard swords, daggers, elven curve blades, falchions, greatswords, kukris, longswords, punching daggers, rapiers, scimitars, short swords, and two-bladed swords).

The main question is whether or not starknives are sword-like or not.

Kukri is on the list, so definitely.

Despite the name I'd say a star knife is something else entirely.

Shadow Lodge

I always ruled it as being proficient with anything in the Blades, Light and Blades, Heavy weapon groups, which the starknife falls under.

Wakizashi would be even better than kukri, if you want to go that route.

The knife master archetype doesn't include wakizashis, so kukris are used. I've always thought the starknife was a hilarious and interesting weapon, so if I can get proficiency with them, that would be great

A starknife is basically as different from a sword as you can get without removing the blades. I wouldn't give them proficiency in it.

It sounds like you're talking about PFS characters. Unless clarified, the safe bet for PFS is that it only includes the items on the list Quendishir quoted.

Separately, I agree with the posters above - Starknife is a great weapon, but a sword it is not.

It's FOUR swords. :)

No, of course it isn't a sword. It is obviously a glaive.

God, does anyone even remember Krull for anything other than its ridiculous weapon?

Starknives are not "swordlike" weapons for tengu.

" I am Ergo the magnificent. Short in stature, tall in power, narrow of purpose and wide of vision. And I do not travel with peasants and beggars. Goodbye!"

Maybe just a little.
