Who would be interested in an Updated to Pathfinder, Stargate RPG game? The System is based on Alderac Entertainment's Spycraft rather than Wizards' d20 Modern.
Players will play in a fairly robust modern RPG that revolves around the U.S. Military. Players will also be in SG-4, the third Stargate Exploration Team sent out to explore the Stargate Network. The network connects to Golarion (P5X-736) -- and the Stargate is located in Numeria -- as a matter of course. Golarion is under control of System Lord Ba'al (Abadar).
There are also Stargate addresses to Eberron (Located in the Pegasus Galaxy), Krynn (Located in the Ori Galaxy), Abeir-Toril (P3X-234; located in the Goa'uld System Lord Ao's empire), and Athas (Located in the Pegasus Galaxy).
Base Species include:
-- The Tau'ri (Earth Human)
-- the Jaffa
-- Near Humans (Tollans, Kelnowas, Nordics, Pledians, Lyrans, etc.)
-- Asgard (Non-playable)
-- Goa'uld (Non-Playable)
-- the Tok'Ra (Goa'uld against Supreme System Lord Ra)
-- The Noxx (A race of HEBs, sooooo non-playable)
-- The Furlings (Undescovered)
Base Classes include:
-- Explorer
-- Guardian (Jaffa only)
-- Pointman
-- Scientist
-- Scout
-- Soldier
Specialities (somewhat like Archetypes) include:
Tau'ri
-- Air Force (Stargate Command is under control of the U.S. Air Force)
--- Air Force Officer (General John Hammond, Colonel Jack O'Neill, and Samantha Carter)
--- Air Force Technician
--- Enlisted Airforce Recruit
--- Pararescue
-- Army (Not a real presence in Stargate Command)
--- Army Officer
--- Army Ranger
--- Army Technician
--- Enlisted Army Recruit
-- U.S. Marines (Drawn when facing heavy combat off world)
--- Enlisted Marine Recruit
--- Force Reconnaissance
--- Marine Officer
--- Marine Technician
-- Navy (Used for water world type missions)
--- Enlisted Navy Recruit
--- Naval Officer
--- Naval Technician
-- NID (National Intelligence Department)
--- NID Officer
--- NID Area 51 Infiltrator
--- Rogue Stargate Team member
-- Civilian Specialist (et al. Doctor Daniel Jackson and Doctor Rodney McKay)
-- Diplomatic Corps
-- Engineering Corps
-- The Russian Unit
[occ]The Asgard[/occ]
-- Asgard Fleet Officer (et al. Hermiod)
-- Asgard Geneticist (et al. Loki)
-- Asgard Planets Enforcer (et al. Freyr and Thor)
The Jaffa
-- The Horus Guard
-- The Serpent Guard (Til'k)
-- The Setesh Guard
-- Shol'va Rebel
Near Humans
-- Primitive Society (ie. Golarion)
-- Modern Society (ie. Kelnowa)
-- Advanced Society (ie. Tollan)
Tok'ra
-- Tok'ra High Commander
-- Tok'ra Undercover Operative
-- Tok'ra Warrior
------------------------
Adventures start Mid-Season 2, after the discovery of the Tok'ra. (The Tok'ra).
Books you will need:
1 Stargate the Roleplaying Game by Alderac Entertainment
1 Pathfinder the Roleplaying Game

OK, still rather lost.
I do have a version of Spycraft 1.0 rules I've adapted some which I use for a local living campaign.
Serial Pulp
though I'm not sure that's anything like what you're talking about.
I'm a bit curious how you intend to throw in magic.
katataban |
Sounds very interesting, I'd be very interested in this, have both books, but unsure how you'll merge the rules.
Also, I'm assuming from your original post that you are somewhat diverging from the canon (e.g. including a russian team, and also army and navy presences)
So assuming mid second season, that would mean

you don't throw in magic, at least, not as magic. You explain it away using something else. Stargate RPG games aren't about the magic, they are about the Science Fiction. Science fiction trumps magic. Say that adamantine armor? It's Naquadah. A sorcerer casting spells? Enhanced abilities thanks to Goa'uld experiments. Goblins and Elves? Prior species before the humans were seeded.

Finish your sentence. :)
Actually I put those up as options. Diverging from cannon is usually the players' call.

I just took up my book, and i might have the wrong one. It's the "Stargate SG-1 roleplaying game, from Alderac entertainment, but it does seem to be based on wizards' d20 system.
It is also probably the winner in the worst lay-out, worst editing, and worst consistency ever.
So I'm guessing there's a better version of this game out somewhere?
Because the premise of a stargate RPG is still very intriguing, but ten minutes looking at this book reminds me why I never actually played one before.

Oh yeah, I would make a better version!! :)
After I get my new car. :)
Deliverance |
I dont have the books, although I guess I could get them through "less than savoury means"
I love the Stargate series, and would very much like to play, but am wondering how much new stuff is introduced.
Are classes completely different, or based on modified Pathfinder classes?
Oh, and its spelled teal'c :P
GM Elton |
Right, it's spelled teal'c. I was reminded of that yesterday while watching the second episode of the first season. :)
The classes have to be re-engineered, unfortunately. You know how the Fighter and the Wizard offers more options? The Scientist and Soldier classes have to offer more options.
SG-1 had two scientists on the team. Samantha Carter had a doctorate in Astrophysics, while Daniel Jackson had a doctorate in Egyptology. The Scientist can offer as many options as the Wizard out of the box. It's a specialist class in real life, why not a specialist class in the game? :)
Grand Moff Vixen |
I am interested, although I want to see how you intend to mesh pathfinder into the game. I have played the Stargate game in the past and enjoyed it very much. I am familiar with the entire series (except Universe, I hate that piece of crap).
If I decide to go for it, my concept is a scientist/engineer. I like those. I haven't decided if I want to be military or not.
GM Elton |
Looks like I'm setting up a Wiki for Stargate RPG conversion. :)
To do list:
* Specialities/Species need to be up to date.
* Classes need to be up to date.
* Skills need to be up to date.
* Feats need to be up date.
* Combat might need some tweaking.
Expect to see in the game:
-- Furlings. These were never encountered in the series. Ever. In my Stargate SG-4 chronicle, you will encounter them. There are a number of Alien Species -- both real and imaginary that they could be. Just don't expect a humanoid teddy bear.
-- Possible visit to Glorion. Paizo said that Golarion exists pretty much in our universe and is probably a nexus point to other universes.
-- A visit to Abeir-Toril; the planet of the Forgotten Realms. The World of the Forgotten Realms is canonically in the same Galaxy as Earth. The Stargate was used by the Imaskari (which were probably ruled by the Goa'uld).
-- Possible Cross-over with the Dragon * Star Empire. The Goa'uld was mostly defeated by Season 8, and the Ori became a danger. However, exploration across the Galaxy can present a new enemy -- the DragonStar Empire. The Tau'ri might have to face Dragons. You think a goa'uld ascension might be bad, wait until a dragon learns how to ascend.
Grand Moff Vixen |
Of note, while I do not have the series on dvd I have access to the entirety of it via Amazon instant video. If any particular info is needed I can call up any episode you need. Plus the Stargate Wiki is available as well.
D-Kal |
You'll probably reject this idea outright, but the Shadowrun system might be a good fit for this. Here's why:
It's a classless system, so you don't have to convert that.
It has skills more appropriate to the "modern" world, so no adaptation is really needed there.
It includes semi-advanced tech, which integrates well with the Stargate universe.
You can trim all the matrix (internet) stuff, the spirits (well, except there's the Ori), and have a basic, easy to learn system ready to go.
Adept powers, such as mystic armor, can mimic tech like the Goa'uld personal shield.
Some spells can mimic other tech, like Goa'uld mind control, invisibility, gene tampered telekinesis, etc.
New "spells" are easy to create.
It uses dice pools instead of d20, which I prefer due to statistical probability.
Mostly, I think it would require much less conversion than Pathfinder. Just a thought.
