My Top 15 that didn't make it (excluding my own item and those of my writing circle)

Amber Robes: Of all the items that didn't make it I found this one to be the most shocking... It had everything going for it, if it's yours post it for public scrutiny and PM me I'd use you on projects.

Akene Amulet: The power was subtle but fun. It could have been a little better but this was amazing as it was. Hats off to you again.

Black Rings of the Master: Best Monk item I've seen in a long time, well done, this will make my game.

Boulder Thrower’s Kit: Another one I'd hire on the spot... These were way cool hats off to you.

Centaur Chaparajos: It hurt you had a clone out there but the idea was cool and yours was the better written entry- well done.

Cloak of Ettinkind: Please reveal yourself as these were one of my favorites, again PM me if you want design work in the future... These may make my home game.

Fang Mouth Eyes: Creepy and cool, this was a daring design and I liked it immediately despite usually hating eye items.

Fire sculptors gloves: The actual sculpting power made these great, you could use soem polish but I'm giving you the wow nod.

Fury Powder: I reviewed this you know I love it.

Gloves of the Dread Viper: I really dug these.

Gloves of Mercurial Synthesis: I reviewed it you know you're awesome.

Harbinger's Knock: I reviewed it loved it, good job.

Jack of Sieges: This was overlooked in my opinion a very very strong entry.

Sun Wukong's Puzzle Box: Reviewed it loved it.

Honorable Mentions:
Driftwood Token
Insulated Gloves of the Blacksmith
Ogre Glove

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I'm surprised that so few have "Pickled Orc's Feet" on their lists, I expected to see it in the top 32. I had a great image of young Drow racing them for fun.

Does anyone remember the name of the gloves that summoned up dead arms from the earth to hinder their foes movement? I thought those were great.

Gloves of the sentimental dead, one of my Top 16 item picks.

I liked those as well, but the name and flavor were a bit wonky. Just think, no matter where you are walking there are dozens of dead buried directly under you at any moment...

Thank you. :) It was a rushed entry, I'm well aware of its limitations and I'm not surprised it didn't make Top 100, but I'm glad somebody liked it.

Unfortunately I didn't think of logging the items I saw until way to late in the voting. The item I thought was the coolest was Cloak of the Phoenix. I game for epic experiences, and the cloak would provide that while being limited by price and by the one-time-epic-use-burnup clause.

I'm surprised it didn't make more favorites lists!

Anyone happen to have the text for that item?

Ah! That was it, thanks!

Yes, very sad not to see them make it to the next round. There were quite a few innovative and creative "tactical terrain" items this year, but this was my favorite.

Hooray! Confirmation that my wacky submission was, in fact, in the pool somewhere!

Personally, I never saw it actually crop up in the voting options, but saw the other monkey-paw-boots-that-turn-your-feet-into-an-extra-set-of-hands a good dozen times. Had me wondering if I'd somehow forgotten the name and all the mechanics I'd given my own item. Weird parallel development that.

Anyway, here's the list of my favorites I sent to a number of people:

Boots, Tower

It's interesting to notice that while only a few of them made the Top 32, most of them were in the Top 100. I think last year my guesses were much more accurate, so I guess I need calibrate my mojo sense. :D

Thank you for the vote of confidence Mikko! I voted for your Deck of Falling Houses numerous times, but it seems like once you get past the first massive hurdle of making Top 32, continuing on becomes even more challenging. I find that each year I learn a lot about designing magic items, but I can't even imagine the learning and challenges involved once you get to the next level. Ultimately, that is what this contest is all about - recalibrating our mojo sense from year to year!

Well said! And yes you're right, it gets more challenging each round if you get into the top 32. In 2012 I made the mistake of thinking that it would get easier -- making the top 50% each round is a lot easier than making the 5% that advance in round 1, right? Wrong. :D

And I'll never make that mistake again.

Steelhead, I hope you come back next year. Feel free to pm me later this year if you wish to bounce ideas off me for your next year's entry.

Thanks Mikko! I'll definitely get in touch with you later in the year. Good luck with the final round! I'll also be interested in getting your perspective on later rounds when we chat again.
