Do the lower tier slots go as quickly as the higher tier? I'm just wondering if I need to be refreshing the blog page every 10 minutes on mondays until this is posted or if I can just check at the end of the day? I don't need a hotel room or badge covered, but t-shirts would be nice. I suppose I can always go buy a few more in the vendor hall if I need to.

Holy cow! I can't believe all the Tier 1 and Tier 2 GM volunteer spots have filled already! I don't think that has ever happened on the first day. Wow!
The Monday blog only went up, what? Three, maybe four hours ago. The volunteers are rabid this year. All the hotel rooms have been sold out in Indianapolis. Hope no one got left out in the cold!
Just kidding guys, did that give anyone a little jolt of panic?

That scared me..... I have a number of college students in our campus gaming association who want to volunteer and can only go to Gen Con if they volunteer enough to get a room. I'm supposed to email them the minute I see the announcement.

I mean no disrespect to anyone who volunteers to GM. We love all GMs and always want more. But please, PLEASE, make sure you understand what you are getting into before signing up to GM 7 or 8 slots.
-You might be able to make it down to the exhibit halls for an hour or so while they are open.
-Everyone is counting on you to make the players' experience special.
-You must be at your table early and will probably have to stay a couple of minutes late cleaning up.
-It's unavoidable, you will have at least one morning slot.
Every convention I have been to that offers a free hotel room has some people sign up for the room and then not show up to his or her game, requiring a mad scramble for a GM who may be running the scenario cold.
Again, this is not a knock on your association. I am sure that they are good GMs and conscientious people. I just like to deliver this warning so people realize what they are signing up for.

I keep a list. Anyone who does not show up for an assigned slot without a good reason is not invited to volunteer in any future years.

Yeah, probably. Good thing I have a variety of ways to get email. :D
June, huh? So, volunteers get to bump the rest of the general population for spots when they are not GMing? :-)
There's a few things I need to hit every year at GenCon, I play in NASCRAG, go to Killer Breakfast, a Burlesque show and spend a bit of time in the vendor hall to buy things that earn me glares from my wife when they arrive at my house in boxes. the rest of the time I will be spending on PFS.

Glad to hear about the no-show list.
We've had a couple of serious discussions about what it means to be a GM with a furnished room at Gen Con. Luckily, they will have a week before classes begin to recover.
That is why I consider it a job for the young. Personally, I'm happy to pay for my room, pay for my badge, pay for my tickets, and occasionally buy a GM a beer or other beverage of choice. For all of you that volunteer to GM, room or not, thank you!
Did I hear correctly that the above did come to pass, that all the Tier 1 and 2 spaces were indeed filled before the end of the day today?

Doug was just kidding around above. According to Mike, there's still tier 1 and 2 spots available, at this time.

Ugh...stupid auto correct. Not June. It was supposed to be "within the next day or two."

Or, evidently, five minutes after that post. Thank you, Mike!

No worries. there are many more alarming things it could have autocorrected to. I think the intent was clear regardless.

Rob, we all know the answer is to send Mike an email every hour, on the hour, until you receive your schedule.
Probably shouldn't do that. Just sayin.

I received 180 emails in the first few hours yesterday and I'm traveling today (currently on a 90 minute layover). However, I've got through most but I don't remember seeing an email from you so send again.
