Trying to make Inigo Montoya...any advice?

Advice

So far the best I can come up with is Human Fighter(free hand archtype) 13/duelist Prc 7, with eldritch heritage feats for either the destined or martyred bloodlines.
Obviously he'd be DEX-based w/a decent CHA, but a low WIS. Here's the array I was Thinking of (20pt buy):
STR: 10, DEX 18(+2 racial), CON 12, INT 13, WIS 8, CHA 15

Eldritch heritage feats are for flavor to help better fit him to the movie persona; Int 13 is there as prereq for combat expertise (a useless feat tax prereq for combat manuevers) & because I hate not having out of combat skill options.

Weapon of choice is obviously the rapier w/ agile as soon as I can get it, and collision as soon as I can talk my DM into allowing it.

For feats I'll need the usual suspects of finesse, focus, etc...but beyond that I don't know where to go. vital strike chain? critical feats? maneuver feats to help exploit the archtype bonuses? any help would be appreciated.

Ah, no, my friend, the class you are looking for it is Swashbuckler! The parry and riposte ability is essential for Inigo Montoya. Of course it depends on whether your DM will allow the free Advanced Class Guide test classes in their current forms, but the Swashbuckler seems pretty balanced to me and has thus far been tremendous fun to play.

Take a look at the character in this alias, he is pretty much Inigo Montoya as a tiefling.

The Swashbuckler sounds interesting, but I wouldn't build one until the final version gets released. Afterwards I might try retraining into it 'tho.

My spouse has played a version of Inigo from 1st to 20th, and recommends Whirlwind Attack.

She dual-classed Fighter and Rogue (more skill points, +sneak) to 4/4.

Enjoy!

I agree that Swashbuckling should be involved - after all, he'd make a wonderful Dread Pirate Roberts. ^^

yea it really is swashbuckler all the way, I am playing a test version of one right now, with a rapier no less and it certainly would have that feel if I wanted him to. Parry and riposte is pretty great, though you really need an agile rapier because you have to have some CHA and CON and a lot of Dex

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

On Topic: Your stat array looks acceptable in my opinion. Though I do agree with everyone else - go Swashbuckler. Regardless if the class isn't officially released yet, it's been played by a lot of people and seems pretty solid to me. Also, why wait and retrain into the new rules when you can start playing it as is now, and automatically retrain into it when the book is released.

Playing Inigo Montoya as anything other than a Swashbuckler... Inconceivable!

Scarab Sages

Whatever class you choose, you need to be either a Half-orc or have Racial heritage half orc for Deathless Master feats. How else could Inigo kill Count Rugen after being brought down to negative HP by his sneak attack?

How can you claim to have studied with the greatest swordsmen in the world and not lay any claim to the School of the Aldori Swordlords?

Psst, by the way, I can sell you their secrets for a hundred gold! Wait, wait! 50! 50 for the power to topple kingdoms with your blade...

*Seriously though, fighter into aldori swordlord with crane style is basically unhittable*

Dark Archive

Remember, he has no ranks in Swim.

And has anyone statted a Holocaust Cloak?

Thanks, I'll check into this.

Also @ Majuba and MechE_
Thanks for the input.

Featwise, go for the critical feats. Rapiers don't do much damage (especially with Str 10 and no PA) but they crit a lot, so use that. Otherwise you might need some sneak attacks (Bluff? Scout) to do anyone any significant harm.

+1 to everyone who said Swashbuckler. 1 level dip into Dervish of Dawn Bard for free Dervish Dance...maybe a few more levels of Bard (he's very charming), but mostly Swashbuckler for sure.

NEWS FLASH

My DM just declared that none of the playtest classes are options due to them not being finished and actually published yet...just as I suspected he would.
So swashbuckler is unavailable...now where do I go? back to my original concept, or maybe the aldori swordlord?

Get the Crane Style feats, they were practically tailor-made for single weapon, free hand duelists. Rename it Bonetti's Defense if that tickles your fancy. One or two levels of Master of Many Styles Monk will help you qualify, and comes with a plethora of other benefits at the cost of 1 BAB and 1 or 2 HP. You will, however, be restricted to Lawful until you get those levels out of the way. It may not be necessary if you're starting at a high level, but I strongly recommend it, especially if you're playing from level 1 (take the Monk levels at 3 and 5). It also allows you to combine Crane Style with Snake Style, even letting you take the excellent Snake Fang without having to take the mediocre Snake Sidewind.

Would a few levels of Paladin fit the concept? Oath of Vengeance certainly would at any rate. Anyone with good Charisma and no spellcasting should give 2 to 4 Paladin levels serious consideration.

Finally, if you are planning on multiclassing, use Lore Warden as the archetype on your base Fighter.

He needs a level ranger so he can take six fingered men as a favorite enemy.

Snake style really doesn't fit my concept, but crane style looks cool. I'm actually looking at dragon style for ignoring difficult terrain, or maybe even snapping turtle for the extra AC boost (not many ways to boost touch ac that I've found).

@Athaleon: I don't picture him as LG (with all the breaking into the castle to kill the count and all) so paladin is probably out. however, I'm not familiar with oath of vengeance but plan to check it out. I was leaning towards sword lord, or free hand fighter for my archtype, but I think you're right and lore warden is the best fit, thanks for that suggestion.

That was a pretty sweet link, thanks.
