Just keeping track of my latest XCom playthrough. All names come from my buddies int he Paizo chat. I am playing Classic Ironman with the expansion enabled but none of the DLC.

Mission 1: Operation Frozen Fist

Walter 3/3 Kills Promoted to Assault Squaddie
Pygon 1/1 Kills Promoted to Sniper Squaddie
Kilrex 2/2 Kills Promoted to Heavy Squaddie

Aliens! A couple grenades make short work of them with Pygon getting into a good position to take out the remaining sectoid. Pygon's accuracy has been noted.

Mission 2: Operation Fire Witch

With abductions going on world round we decided to focus our efforts in stopping the aliens in Perth Australia.

At first this mission looked just like the last, but when Pygon took to the roof for an elevated position he found 2 sectoids waiting for him. Luckily the meger cover of an AC unit was enough to hide behind until reinforcements could get up there as well.

Australia has given us 5 engineers in thanks. I fear what weapons we may need in the coming months.


Mission 3: Operation Hidden Palace

We finally shot down one of those pesky UFOs over Brazil. Time to send in the cleanup crew.

Mostly just more sectoids although we did encounter a curious creature in the ship wreckage. It appeared to be made out of almost pure energy. Fortunately Kilrex took it out with his rocket launcher before we learned what it could do.


Mission 4: Operation Patient Priest

With AndrewD2 in the hospital we decided to volunteer him to be become our first MEC trooper. In less time that he would have otherwise spent in the hospital recovering from his wounds he'll come out with cybernetic limbs and maybe even a flame thrower.

Meanwhile we've got abductions in New York to deal with.

Sill only sectoids at this point but the fact that we were fighting on a bridge and our cover kept exploding made this one tense. While Pygon didn't manage to garner any kills, his skills with the first aid kit did save Walter's Life.

Mission 5: Secret Crone

This time we're responding to abductions reports in Port Said Egypt.

This time alien/jetpack hybrids assaulted us from the air while poison spitting thin men kept us pinned down.

Fortunately for us AndrewD2s MEC suit worked even better than planned. He was able to march right up to a wall an alien was hiding behind, punch through and squish the alien all in one blow. After this impressive display, the rest was just cleanup.


Mission 6: Unceasing Fog

This time we've got eyes on a landed UFO in Japan, time to go check it out.

Things did not go well for us. Several key shots were missed against floaters in the open followed by my lack of understanding about how MECs and stranglers work.

A moment of silence for our fallen heroes, but the war continues on.


Mission 7: Operation Blinding Knife

With our A team down we were a little hesitant to even send a sweep team after the medium size UFO we shot down, but despite our heavy hearts we decided it would be irresponsible to let this alien thread go unchecked.

Our bravery was rewarded with success however. Despite taking several wounds and even a causality we were able to sweep the site and recover valuable alien artifacts.

Rather than let Rathendar spend 14 days in the hospital we have decided to repair AndrewD2s old suit and make Rathendar ready for the transformation.

Treppa had been added as the reward of a prior mission that I forgot to mention at the time.


Mission 8: Operation Forgotten Shroud

Our worst suspicions may be true, they aren't just here for abductions, they have something else in mind.

Alien terror attack in Lyon!

This kind of action demands our response.

New swift, four legged aliens with terrifying melee capabilities charged us but were put down by Rathendar after being softened up by a rocket.


Mission 9: Operation Banished Fear

The abductions do not stop. South Africa has been a hotspot for reports recently so we decided to focus our efforts there.

Mission 10: Operation Fallen Dream

Alien abductions continue to plague us, this time in Germany.

Lt. Treppa 2/5 Kills - Wounded 5 Days

David heroically managed to stun both a floater and a thin man before the last remaining thin man on the map decided to shoot David in the head, despite David behind behind a cinderblock wall and hiding in protective smoke. This our course caused Treppa and Oladon to panic, but Rathendar managed to hlod it together and eliminate the threat.

I worry that the mechanical changes to his body may be affecting his human soul.

We also encountered a much more beefier alien species than previously encountered - The Muton

They employed advanced tactics, and were heavily armed including some rather scary looking explosive devices we can only assume are grenades. Fortunately the Kinetic limbs upgrade built into our MEC suit generated enough force to kill them. I do shutter to think of the day when we encounter aliens that isn't true for.


Mission 11: Operation Patient King

This time we've identified a large scout UFO that has landed in Canada. Time to clean it up.

After encountering half a dozen floaters in one one Rathendar's armor is not looking as invincible as it once did. Fortunately Treppa was able to keep Rathendar alive with two judicious uses of her medkit combined wich a clutch smoke grenade to allow the squad to reposition while Boomer picked off floaters trying to flank us.

After breaching the enemy ship we came across another outsider, the being of pure energy. Treppa punched a hole in it's armor and BoomerET tried to stun it with the arc thrower which unfortunately failed to disable the creature. Luckily Oladon was able to flank and destroy the creature before it could fire on us, but I worry about missed opportunities to further study some of the more unique aliens.


Mission 12: Operation Crimson Priest

More alien abductions, this time in China

I was worried how this mission would go without our MEC would go but I had full faith in Corrosive Rabit's sniping abilities to carry us though. Despite finding a nice piece of slightly elevated high cover he was picked off by a lucky shot from a floater before even managing to fire.

Despite encountering quite a few aliens, including 3 mutons the rest of the squad performed well despite suffering multiple wounds.

I hope the squad will be recovered in time for our next mission.


I can only hope that the next iteration of Corrosive Rabbit will avenge his progenitor's death.

With All my named agents in the hospital it seemed like a good time to send some rookies after those traitorous EXALT collaborators.

I seem to have severely underestimated the threat that EXALT poses. A mistake I will not make again.

Whoa! A Mectoid! Their suit is cooler than ours too. It would have been nice to know it could fire twice before it did so and took out Rathendar but the rest of the squad was able to pull it together only losing one rookie and even capturing a muton.


Mission 15: Operation Empty Calm

Shot down a small scout UFO in Mexico. Time to go clean up the pieces

For the first time in forever we came away with no injuries to our team. We also managed to capture a sectoid but failed once again at capturing an outsider.


Mission 16: Operation Fading Crone

Strange readings coming from Newfoundland. Time to investigate.

Things seemed suspiciously quiet at first, but then we came across the zombies followed by the Chryssalids.

After an off target rocket failed to take down a pair of wounded Chryssalids they ganged up on Oladon and turned her into a zombie. She promptly ate one of the rookies, causing widespread panic among the squad. By the time the red mist had cleared from everyone's eyes the other rookie was dead as well.

Eventually we found a dead whale being used as a Chryssalid hive. Not having enough firepower to deal with it Cpt. Treppa quickly reactivated the whaling ship's transponder beacon so that an air strike could be brought in.

Chryssalids poured out of the ship surrounding Lt. Oladon and Lt. BoomerET while Treppa barely made it to the extraction point before being overrun.

Additional Chryssalids killed by airstrike: 12 + Hive.

Mission 17: Operation Severed Scepter

Another covert OP against EXALT. We're stretched a bit thin but I think I've got a good understanding of how it should work based on last time.

Whoa, this mission was totally different from what I expected based on the previous covert op. This was a king of the hill type scenario and I positioned myself rather poorly.

Depite my tactical blunder we still managed to take down 10 of them before we were overwhelmed.


Looks like a good time to be in the hospital.

I've been meaning to get it, since watching some LP's of the original. (But got the UFO series instead). I believe it's not too bad if not on 'Classic' or on 'Ironman' - plus there were bugs with "Enemy Unknown" in those modes that they never bothered to fix.


This thread has inspired me to start an XCOM playthrough. That said, I will be playing on Easy, so I probably won't have as many fatalities to report. In honor of the inspiration, my first non-rookie has been named Squaddie Pirate Rob.


With the squad down to just Treppa and Rathendar and our training finally to the point where we can start our new soldiers at squaddie instead of rookie.

Of course while we were getting everything together the aliens managed to shoot down one of our satellites, and the interceptor sent to protect it, and cause terror all over Africa.

With Treppa and Rathendar still in the hospital it's time to give the new members of our team some field experience dealing with an alien abduction in Russia.

This mission did not go well. Waiting on the other side of a bus for us was a mectoid. When we moved to engage it a pair of mutons and a new muton berserker caught wind of us and destroyed our flank.

You all fought valiantly but once Treppa was the only soldier remaining, was pinned down by 2 mutons, had half health, and the car she was hiding behind was leaking gas and on fire...

Luckily she made it to the EVAC zone just in time to escape.


I'm not throwing my soldiers under the bus to save my own skin, honest!


Mission 21: Operation Spectral Night

We've got another shot at covert ops against EXALT and a handfull of Squaddies. Lets do this.

A UFO of unknown size has landed in Canada, we've got a bunch of new squaddies, time to check it out.

We didn't even get near the UFO. Mutons, Chryssalids and even a Mechtoid came charging our position as soon as we were in the area.

Sq. Karelzarath and Sq. managed to make it back to the evac zone. Their compansions were not so fortunate


"Mission 23: Operation Rotting Scepter"

Despite our worrying loss of personel we must continue to strike back against the aliens. Today we hit their abduction operations in Lille, France.

2 Mectoids, 2 Mutons, 1 Muton Berserker, 4 Sectoids and 1 Strangler. We stopped the abduction, but at the cost of the lives of 3 more of our soldiers. Morale is running low, we're going to need a big victory, and soon, if we've got any hope of salvaging this war.

France has provided us with Cpt. Black Fang (Support) to aid in our efforts. At least they believe in us.


Maj. Treppa is starting to worry about being fragged.

Rumors are beginning to form that Maj. Treppa is working for the aliens. The troops are beginning to worry.
