Diplomacy with the cannibals?

Serpent's Skull

So I'm DMing serpents skull and one of my members is a worshiper of Asmodues. We have only played two sessions and half way through tonight's session the camp was attacked by the cannibals living on the island. When he saw the symbols painted on their bodies he recognized them as symbols of devil worshipers and set off the next day to find the tribe, hoping to reason with them.

Is he going to get eaten?
He doesn't speak infernal but do you think that the symbol on his shield will be enough to get the cannibals to try to speak with him?
Is Malikadna (the witch) going to use him to take out the chieftain (who she hates and plans to over throw anyway) and place him in charge?

What are some thoughts on how this could go down?

My personal favorite is that the witch tries to turn the tribe on the chief and the chief attacks the PC, but I'd still like thoughts from others :)

-Thanks

Him not speaking infernal could be an issue with diplomacy. That should be addressed for sure. But I definitely agree that he should be allowed to give this a shot, and should be rewarded on some level for his attempt. I think your plan that the chief and the witch end up enemies, with you on one side, is a good plan. I do warn you, though; Klorak is very strong, but if your group has the witch with you, and there are no cannibals to get in the way, it's not quite the climactic fight it should be.

Thats a good point, I want this to be climactic for them.
Someone on a different thread said that they should just make him part of the family..
