Question about removing cards from the game.

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

We have just played two scenarios of AP3 and removed a bunch of cards. I know a lot of talk has been made about tracking and I got that figured out but I am wondering about whether a card is considered banished or not at the end of the scenario.

We defeated the villain with 3 locations temporarily closed and won. The cards that were left over in the villains location and the rest of the other locations, are they considered banished and can be removed if they are basic or are they just returned to the box like the cards left over when you rebuild your decks?

I'd love an official ruling but advice works as well. Thanks guys.

The villain's location yes, the others no. Page 13 covers closing locations. It reads:

If you succeed at meeting the When Closing requirement, search through the location deck, take out the villain if it is there, and banish the rest of the cards.

There is no mention made of what you actually do with the cards left in the temporarily closed locations. There for I'd assume they are simply put-back-in-the-box and not banished.

Let me know if you've got a question about something else not mentioned or if you discover another instance of banishing not covered in the list I made. If we get official confirmation that temporarily closed locations are not banished, I'll add it to the list of things that feel like banishing, but aren't. And I'll work this into my next update of files on BGG.

We played assuming that cards from closed locations are actually banished to the box. In other words, everything that goes from play to the box is actually banished. By the end of the adventure, we've gone through most of the basic cards.

Quick question on strategy: Should we banish all the Blessing of the Gods? this are basic.

Well, BotGs will be tougher to banish than most cards. Since you can't fail to acquire them, that won't happen. You can basically only get rid of them when you close the location and banish the remaining cards or when another card requires you to banish it.

As for strategy, you have to weight two things. 1, if you encounter them they are auto-acquire and basically give you another exploration right then and there. But 2, the less of them in the game the more likely the blessing in your hand will match the blessing on the blessing discard pile.

I'm not banishing cards from temp-closed locations, so I'll have fewer BotGs to banish than you will. So I'm going to banish the ones I have opportunity to. So far through 3.3 that has been only 2.

So far we've banish 16 cards total. Should have been more but I didn't banish the cards from the closed location that brought up this thread.

All of the Zombies are banished, plus the Satyr. Two of the four cultists. Both Trapped Passageways and the Zombie Nest.

As for good things, a bracers of protection and a blast stone at least. Chainmail and a longsword I think. No BoTG, though I am hoping to lose a few more asap.

All "temporarily closed" means is that the villain can't escape there; temporarily closing a location does not trigger any of the other effects of closing a location, so the cards don't get banished; if a location is open or temporarily closed at the end of the scenario, its cards get taken care of by the sentence "Put all other cards back into the box." So they're not banished.

Only 16? Man, I guess we're lucky (or unlucky, depending). I think by the end of HMM we'd banished like 40-ish cards. But that may have something to do with us purposefully not acquiring things like potions and short swords and just happily letting them be banished.

Thanks for the clarification.
