Finally I got item that kills it wearer as a primary function.

Does that reference to Ackbar puts the item fully in the joke item category?
Powerful abilities balanced with serious drawbacks? Thank you, pass... It could be much better item.

I had given up on seeing my item and then there it was. Made my heart jump a little. Now I can relax a little until the first culling.

Hmm, why would the author specifically create a SIAC if that spell isn't in the construction requirements?

It's funny how you sometimes encounter an item that precisely was one of your ideas for submission, but you discarded it... and you're glad about that, because the other designer did a much better job!

I know! I didn't even think about what colour poop you'd have if you ate my first item! (/jk)

I've read the repeated posts to this effect, and I have to say I don't really get it. Maybe it's just me, but passive voice just doesn't bother me. Sounds fine. I typically try to avoid it anyway because I know it bothers people, but I've never really understood the rancor it provokes. I guess I'm just weird...

In scientific and technical writing people are supposed to use the passive voice. If you read/write a lot of this material, you get used to it.
For magic items and fiction and such, an active voice is probably better. "Uttering the wondrous whatchamagigs command word and flipping it on its head reveals its true power." Its just more dynamic.
Weak and moderate auras on the same item? How it is even done with single CL on the item.
*sigh* so great name I wanted to vote for it... But negative levels it bestows on user... *sigh*
Now I have to choose between two decent cheap items of rather specific utility.

I find myself voting for the item with the coolest potential most of the time. Most items are fatally flawed in one way or another, but some have a cool idea behind them.
Player: I want to invoke this item.
GM: ok how?
Player: ......... invocation
GM: No I mean in what manner?
Player: I don't know . . . Saucily? No, timorously. No, I mean--
GM: Too late, you were supposed to do it boldly.
I have seen a few saddles. Mostly so-so. One I LOVE.
SIAC cooking item with ability that takes up one sentence- with 2 paragraphs of description. :(

Oh dear, I have a cold that has gone to my chest.
So my wife can sleep, I have decided to battle through and try to catch some sleep downstairs.
The cough is winning, so it looks like a long night of voting ahead.
Hope you feel better soon Anthony (and keep voting anyway)

Take good care of yourself. My wife has been flattened by a succession of nasty bugs. She mentioned to me today she thought she would feel better if she could remove her head. When I replied I'd seen a wondrous item that would do that, I received "the look" in return.

Just not wondrous item soup.

This item started with a cute name that drew me in, then an effect that made sense and was kinda neat... then it just kept piling on the effects until I had to, with a broken heart, vote it down. Tempted to keep a copy and alter it for in game use. Just needs a paragraph chopped in half and it would be awesome.

The other thread is extremely vague so I wouldn't sweat that too much, this one is mostly snark. I have seen my item 3 times and there's a few comments that could apply to my item in both threads, it doesn't help the jitters any.
You still wonder if you should have cut that last paragraph/ added more description/ used your words more wisely.
You still wonder if you made the right design choices.
Get nervous when you see something with a similar theme and wonder if it's competing with your item.
Draw favorable/unfavorable comparisons to other items. It is the nature of the beast.

So many items that do things without granting a save. So many items that have Magic Aura and "Detect Magic can't find this item".
The worst is when two of them come up against each other.
James Raine wrote: the worry is that it's not on either thread, so maybe I got DQed for some inexplicable reason. It can take a while. I've seen mine twice now, but I've voted over 500 times. Last year, I didn't see mine until after The Cull.

Still haven't seen my item.
None of the comments in this thread seem to be about it either. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Item that looks like a riff off a previous top 32 vs an item that looks like a riff off an item from the practice thread.
