50 words. Check that off the list. It might have had some potential with more words, like actual crafting requirements and reasonable limitations on its ability.

A magic item should probably be of use to all PC parties, not necessarily all classes or races. But if it is TOO specific it is likely to be only desirable by a few PC groups. That's when it crosses the line for me.

I have run across a handful of items where it seemed very much like the author was trying to "patch" a specific issue in his or her campaign.
Two retraining items! I voted for the longer one because in this case, they made sense while the short one was too short and a headache for the gm.
I've just had the author of an entry... greet me within said entry. That's a first after seven years of this competition, at least.

An incredibly useful item for low level adventurers...priced for mid-level adventurers.

Sorry, an item like that already exists. Yours just costs less.

OK, I have no idea what that word is (well, now that I've looked it up I do), but I like that new item. I wouldn't be shocked to see it in the Top 32. Great visuals.

That is a mean thing to do to an eidolon.
Hmm. And another new item. Probably not in my keep file, but imaginative at least. I'll give you an upvote over another OK item. Congratulations.

What I'd do just to see my own item.
And another new item! Not outstanding, but riffing on a theme I've already seen. Apparently if you drink more, people will like you.
Is it just me or are there literally dozens of items with whole lists of effects? I have seen random effect lists, effect lists based on everything between CL and your dog, lists that are just lists, and my eyes just start to glaze over. Not all of them are SAKs, but several try to be.
*Sigh*
Dream items aren't what voters dream for.

Steven Helt wrote: So...it takes up a slot, but then only works after you take it off. Does it still use the slot? Or do I just vote for the other item?
I think we all know the answer.
I actually like that concept, just not for that particular item/effect. A few years ago I submitted a hairpin that had an enchantment effect that was only triggered when a woman took it off. It was supposed to simulate the whole "letting her hair down" sexy effect. I don't know, anyway...it wasn't a great item, but I do like that kind of thinking. Though in the case you're talking about, more work definitely needed to go into explaining how it works in certain ways.

Paizo keeps submiting the ZZ gp item to me... I believe they really do want me to give up and vote for it!
Lithrac wrote: Paizo keeps submiting the ZZ gp item to me... I believe they really do want me to give up and vote for it! Yeah, that's secretly Sean's item :p
That item sounds like a thing from a SR4 book about the matrix. It also becomes more confusing with every paragraph, so maybe I'm not that far off?
201 words and... no effect, only fluff?
If I ever want to turn myself into a skeleton, I've got plenty of choices on how to go about doing so.
Undead lantern vs lantern of undead hating
Yeah, that's like Sophie's choice, except I don't want to have to pick one to save...
After having voted nearly every bad item to every bad item together, I'm now starting to see new items!
Yay

It might be that every item is compared to every other item and those of us doing the compares only remember the "similar to similar" comparisons.
Do we know if they do more work to compare similar to similar or is it just every to every and us remembering the similars"

Damn, I really liked that item... If only I could tell whether it was supposed to be expendable or reusable or what. Sorry nifty item, I cannot vote for thee.
Antariuk wrote: Kalervo Oikarinen wrote: Marathon! <o> Congrats! But I'm sure you used an item for that... I did, two items. My laptop and tablet.
And I only saw my item once. ;__;

Does anyone know when the cull takes place?

Heh, I think a little alliteration goes a long way and I never down vote just for that, but when they start to make up words or just force it which is generally obvious then I get annoyed.

"X of Y" is a solid naming formula. Usually. This one I'm not buying though. Some words just don't go together, like if I made an item called the Ox of Gracefulness. That's short for Oxymoron of Gracefulness, right? I'm thinking a line of offensive debuffing spells. Bull's grace, owl's strength, sheep's cunning, et al. They had some of those in 3.5, worded like Ray of Enfeeblement.

Ok, I'm now officially upvoting all shawls, if for no other reason then because it's high time we had another shawl in the Top 32.
Are we getting pretty close to being able to build Iron Man?
Guardian item vs. a Thief item. Initiative!
