Actually, I think I know the items in question. There are at least two items with the exact same name that roughly do the same thing. One is formatted decently; the other is not. So if you see one, read it carefully and compare it to the other. They don't match.

Nooooo, this is a pretty uniquely named item. Maybe I'm just remembering it incorrectly. I've seen enough items to be able to claim that. Hey look, I hit Marathon Voter again this year!

I think I've noticed a few items with improper format that were cleaned up, but I may just be misremembering. You aren't alone in your insanity, at any rate.

Luckily, I'm too busy designing my monster with the occasional voting thrown in.

I think that there are two items with identical names and slightly different mechanical effects but the same primary function - being obviously tied to the item's name... Or I am just recalling very similar item from the previous year?

The horror of a vertical video.

It is an 88 year old woman who dances like a 20 year old white guy.

New item! And a nice one. But guess what? It looks a bit pricey to me for its effects...

Maybe I should put that one into my keep file? Uh, too late...

Surprised nobody has made a chrome/firefox plugin that dings you when its time to vote again. Because lets be honest, after the 400th vote you can just look at the title and know exactly what the item is because you've read it a zillion times before.

I wish there was a voter stat page that showed the following:

1. How many votes your account has cast
2. How many votes until you hit the next "* Voter 2014" badge
3. How many total votes cast by everyone.

Im mostly curious about #3, because 1 vote = 1 min. Extrapolate that out to determine how many people years were spent here voting total.

Good ideas, I has them!

I would guess about 25,000 per day.

So, it may be about half a million at the end.

Very much this. If I'm the one crafting the item, I should be able to pick the command word. I think the more of the description you leave to the player, the more customizable the item becomes. I'd hate to need to pass up on an item that helps my character mechanically just because the flavor of the item doesn't fit.

Unless you really want to mess with your PC. "Whats the command word? No looking it up either". Sorry, cant use it until you remember the command word.. :)

If my GM ever did that, I think i'd throw my beer at him.

Yeah. Purple prose is all well and good, but if you allow the item more customability than other people will do things with it you probably didn't think of.

Huzzahhhhh! I caught up...

Since I started voting I've come across a lot of
* Undead interaction items
* Torcs
* Soups - though not so many since the cull
* Voice manipulation
* A lot of drawbacks as a counterbalance

I don't know about anyone else, but this voting has revealed some things to me:

1) Handy items trump powerful items
2) I don't like dream items, or teleportation and time based items
3) I'm a stickler to the each turn a player may make 1 full round action or 1 standard action and move action. Didn't realise how much I dislike Swift actions.
4) Don't like items that require extra GM work (found myself muttering, "Got enough on my plate" a few times)
5) Cinematic trumps mechanics for me as long as there are no major errors/flaws with the item
6) I like items in the hand that require you to wield it and interact with it
7) I have a preferred range of about 5-30k in market value. Items under that don't tend to have abilities that interest me and items above that tend to frighten me off power wise.
8) The easier it is to read the more favourable I am to the item
9) I don't care if words are mispelled or the format is a little off, as long as it's easy to pick up what the item does
10) I'm finding myself repeating what a mate used to repeatedly say back in the 3.5 days, "Some spent significant XP, gold and time to make that...why?"

So much this my head is about to explode.

Nobody remembers someone using Use Magic Device on a wand of fireball, EVERYONE REMEMBERS botching a Use Magic Device on a wand of fireball and blowing your face off during a key battle.

I have a very much loved house rule that I'll let you bend the rules to get away with things as long as it makes the battle/encounter memorable, funny, or something we'll be talking about in years to come.

Dedicated Voter Season 7

Case in point: Ninja wanted to do some horribly complex acrobatics to get through enemy squares without an AoO. Sure it was above his movement limit, but the way he described it was really cool. He got to the key point, rolled his Acrobatics and got a big fat 1. The baddie then critted him on the AoO and dropped him like a bad habit. So to this day people poke fun at him to not impale himself on the sword of the bad guy when he's flipping through enemy squares.

When he rolled that 1, I snorted Gin through my nose (oh god it burnt), and the rest of the gang cheered like they just slaughtered Karzoug. Sometimes laughing at your own party members misfortune is the best part of the game.

Exactly! It's not that someone failed at doing a thing (which happens often), but that someone failed doing something risky and/or cinematic. I had a player provoke from 4 enemies in order to save his ward, only to be critically hit by each of them. Easiest way to drop a fighter form full to null in 1 round. It'll always be one of my favorite moments. More importantly, it's one of that *player's* favorite moments as well. Sure, that character didn't end well, but cinematically, it's beautiful.

Thats one of the huge draws of tabletop and why after 20 years I'm still playing it. Its the players that describe these super awesome over-the-top scenes that suddenly go oh-so-wrong after the dice fall that you just cant help but shake your head and laugh.
