As it turns out, mythic monsters can poach abilities from other monsters, specifically anything from the Universal Monster Rules section of the Bestiaries (in addition to any standard mythic monster abilities or mythic path abilities of heroes).
Some new monster abilities are especially powerful; at the GM's discretion, they can count as two abilities toward this total. For example, the mythic fire giant's fire vortex ability could count as two mythic abilities.
In place of a mythic ability, the monster may gain a universal monster ability, such as rend or pounce, either from an existing Bestiary or from this section.
So...yeah...the creative possibilities are endless!
A troll with fire and acid immunity? A water elemental that can move through beach sands thanks to earth glide? Or a multi-headed ettin with the split ability that turns into two (or more) one-headed giants when struck with a slashing weapon? (Oh heck, make it a hydra!)
What sorts of amazing, challenging, or fun ideas can you brainstorm?

Oh my god. You could emulate a 2nd edition troll with this!
Give him fire and acid immunity AND split. He basically can't be killed via hit point damage, and simply regenerates his hit points from half whenever he is split into two.
He could cut off his own fingers and make an invincible, ever-expanding army.

Yes, but the added abilities should really be thematically appropriate. Giving a mythic pit fiend access to Smite Evil thrice per day as a level 20 paladin so he could fight his way to the top of Hell's hierarchy is just silly. On the other hand, giving a mythic wyrm cloud dragon an ability that causes his aura and breath weapon to electrocute people, imposing Strength and/or Dexterity penalties for a time, makes sense thematically for the creature and its mechanics.
Also, wouldn't pitting the party against a creature that was unkillable by the methods of 99.999% of all adventuring companies completely ruin any chance of the game being fun? 'Cause that's what the troll you're describing sounds like, a fun killer.

Really? It sounds to me like a mythic challenge! :D
None of the abilities I described aren't thematically appropriate. And besides, this thread is not about the troll, it's about generating great encounter ideas.

Welp, I've been meaning to create a Mythic Adamantine Golem. Kinda wondering what abilities would be "thematically appropriate" for what is effectively a giant nigh-indestructible walking killbot.
You could reflavor its slam attacks as giant clamp/claws (like Rippley's loader from Aliens 2), then give it the ATTACH or GRAB and CONSTRICT abilities. Alternatively, have it be hollow and roughly similar to Wall-E and give it the COMPRESSION ability. Watch your players cry as they watch the monster follow them into the narrow tunnels where they thought they would be safe.

These work pretty well. If you want defensive abilities, Kiraes, this is something I'm doing for an eventual boss battle in my homebrew. Give it an outer shell that works as hardness, extra armor, temp hp, full (100%) fortification, or, ideally, a combination of those. If the PCs don't spend time dismantling the armor somehow, the golem maintains the amazing defensive capabilities of its outer shell. You can have it regenerate slowly, too, like the T-1000.
