I'm working at building a set of tests and puzzles for my characters to 'prove their worthiness' and gain a great reward. I have six players, ninth level and of generally good alignments. I'm looking for variety some tests that might highlight moral worthiness, some that show intelligence and clever thinking, some that highlight skills or abilities. I want these to be more than a simple skill roll and hopefully something that will really engage the players.
Of course I will also have a combat or two, but that sort of encounter is easy to come up with.
Get a chess board, set up one of those, "protect the king from mate in the next three moves" puzzles, use the character's minis as pieces with the "player" as king.
Find some appropriate puzzle games on your tablet or computer. Tell the player he's in a life-size version of one and has to solve it in order to continue. A pipe game would be good for this.
