I bring this up here so I do not thread jack another post...
But I am about to run a campaign "Escape from Ravenloft" where the PCs end up on the other side of a world in Kaiden....
So I ask, what if Lord Soth went from Ravenloft to Kaiden through the mist....
What do you think he would do? How would he react?
Well consider first the language barrier, you'll note that The Gift mentions the need for PCs to learn the Kaidanese language, which the merchant, Marl Tyro, is familiar and can teach PCs interested on the way to Kaidan. Someone who has not learned Kaidanese is in trouble, as the Kaidanese have only been exposed to non-Kaidanese languages for only 2 years (as Kaidan was a closed state prior to the start of The Curse of the Golden Spear adventure arc.)
Also consider that despite Lord Soth, being a nobleman and undead, the undead nobility of Kaidan have determined social rank and undead state through the mechanics of the Great Wheel, and the founding curse of the realm. Other undead exist in Kaidan - yurei ghosts, jikininki and others, but new noble undead cannot be created. Soth would be considered both Gaijin, and probably be considered a commoner by the Kaidanese nobility. I don't know how Soth would react to being relegated to something other than noble status.
I would think Lord Soth's high level status and potential power would be a threat to the Shogunate, and Lord Kiyomori, the shogun of Kaidan, is probably a graveknight with no less than 20 levels as a Samurai with probably the Bugyo prestige class. Kiyomori can easily raise an army to face any foreign threat, with many powerful spellcasters to support them.
Also consider the mists of Kaidan, like Ravenloft can control who enters and who leaves Kaidan. Would the mists allow Soth's entry?
These are all questions you'd need to answer as a GM bringing Soth to Kaidan.
