[Hero Lab] Version 8.2 of the Pathfinder files for Hero Lab is now available - Advanced Class Guide updated with the Revised Arcanist

Product Discussion

Silver Crusade Lone Wolf Development

A new update of the Pathfinder files for Hero Lab is now available from the automatic updates mechanism within Hero Lab. This is a smaller update - The main change is that the Arcanist now matches the Revised Arcanist. There are also a few bug fixes, and some new adjustments.

If you're not familiar with Hero Lab, please head over to the Hero Lab page of our website. There, you can download the program in demo mode and try it out. The only things you won't be able to do in demo mode are save and print (although you can see the print preview), so that you can give it a thorough test before you decide to purchase our program.

Another option if you'd like to try Hero Lab is our Hero Lab for the Pathfinder Beginner Box program. This program is free, and does support saving and printing, and allows you to make heroes and monsters from the Pathfinder Beginner Box.

On the topic of updates, has anyone else noticed that their downloads have slowed right down? I used to be able to get the updates in 10 minutes, maybe 15 on a bad day. The last few updates though it's taken an hour or so, and that's assuming it doesn't just time out partway through. This happens whether I'm downloading through Hero Lab or straight from the site, and one of my friends who also uses Hero Lab has noticed the same thing, so it's not just my connection.

It's been getting pretty aggravating, it's reached the point that it takes a few days of trying to get the updates to download. Is there something putting extra strain on the infrastructure at the moment?

An hour?? I get mine in about 5 minutes. Not sure what your problems are and yes this is directly through the Lone Wolf site too. I am sure it is not a problem on Lonewolf's end though. It could be a local area too.

Even during "peak" times my download takes 5 minutes or less. I wish you luck none the less. but an hour or even a few days is severe to say the least and it should be something I would talk to your ISP about and hoppe your friend is not of the same ISP.

We have completely different ISPs and live on opposite sides of the city from each other, so we're on different exchanges. Every other thing I download runs perfectly fast (not lightning speeds, but reasonable), it's only the stuff I try to download for Hero Lab.

Maybe it's just the whole being in Australia thing.

Hi Tinkergoth,

Nothing substantial has changed regarding our downloads over the last year - they've increased in size (which is a problem we're working on), but that shouldn't make things take an hour instead of 10 minutes.

You could try downloading the updates directly from our web site:

http://www.wolflair.com/index.php?context=hero_lab&page=downloads

Does that go any faster, or at least make it easier to download? What sort of speed do you get when you try to download the file?

I believe the server that our downloads live on is located in either New York or Dallas - what sort of speeds do you get when you try to download from those locations via this speed test?

Does this include a fix for the swashbuckler so they don't get too many bonus feats?

Could you please give me more details about this issue, please? What are you seeing? What do you expect to see? I just checked our bug tracking system, and no one has reported anything along these lines recently.

Hi Colen,

I've tried downloading direct from the website as well. Download speed for that varies from 20 - 60 kb/sec normally, occasionally gets up to 100kb/sec. Unfortunately it still seems to time out regularly, and although I can resume the download, that seems to corrupt something in the file and Hero Lab won't recognise it afterwards.

I just ran a speedtest from a New York server, haven't tried Dallas yet as I'm about to leave for work. Download speed was 2.66Mbps.

There was an error in the Swashbuckler text which had feats being granted every two levels, even though the chart has it every four (starting at fourth). This was not an apparent error on your part since you didn't know if the text or chart was correct (likely why the lack of bug reports). The Swashbuckler discussion thread has a clarification at the top that it is to follow the chart and not the text.

I know you followed the text from making trial swashbucklers and getting bonus feats at 6th and 10 levels.

Thank you for reporting this. I've added it to our to-do list.

For future reference, here's our bug reporting form

Since we only check Paizo's forums every few days, you'll probably get a faster response posting bugs there than on the Paizo forums. Also, having the bugs all go to a single place makes it easier for us to organize our bug lists and make sure we don't miss anything.
