Seeing through fog

Advice

Wondering what is the cheapest/easiest/low level way to see through fog.

Only thing I've found so far is Fogcutting Lenses.

Any other ideas?

Waves Oracle at first level you can take the Water Sight (Su) revelation.

Thanks for the quick reply, Lerkz! What if you happen to be a land-bound level 7 necromancer?

Then that makes things a little more difficult. The best excuse I could come up for this is that you like water . The reason/purpose of a necromancer loving water would be a spell that evaporates moisture from the body of each subject living creature, causing flesh to wither and crack and crumble to dust. Also known as Horrid Wilting Just re-flavor waves as water in general, I think this should be enough to convince your DM. Also would like to point out the fact that the spell is of the necromancy school.

Hmmm... so pick up 1 level of Oracle?

I would and since you're dipping I would suggest possibly going dual cursed for fortune and misfortune.

Another good reason would be out of veneration to Pharasma, who includes Water as one of her domains.

Great catch! But one problem with that is Pharasma abhors the undead and considers them a perversion. Maybe you previously worshiped her, and became corrupt.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

There's also the Goz Mask

How about a Goz Mask? Same price, head slot rather than face, with additional benefits and no penalties.

Fogcutting Lenses:
Slot face; Price 8,000 gp; Aura faint transmutation; CL 5th; Weight 1 lb.

These goggles are made of carefully-polished rock crystal, with frames of polished brass and a simple leather strap and buckle sized for a giant's head (but easily adjustable for smaller wearers).

The goggles allow the wearer to see through magical and normal fogs, mists, and similar obscurement. They do not confer darkvision or low-light vision. Further, the goggles distort and skew vision strangely, causing a –4 penalty on Perception checks.

Craft Wondrous Item, darkvision, fog cloud; Cost 4,000 gp

Goz Mask:
Aura moderate transmutation; CL 8th
Slot head; Price 8,000 gp; Weight 1 lb.

Shortly after the Eye of Abendego began, a fanatical splinter-cult of Gozreh known as the Storm Kindlers flocked to the region, convinced the Eye was a manifestation of the Storm Lord himself. The upper tier of this group created enchanted masks to aid in the navigation of the often storm-lashed swamps. The Storm Kindlers, however, were unprepared for the savagery and evil that had claimed the Sodden Lands, and they and their home were quickly wiped out. Today, many of these distinctive masks remain, now worn by humanoid chieftains and Koboto witch doctors. The masks are often defaced, with the original appearance twisted into a monstrous or demonic visage. Their new owners refer to them as goz masks.

A goz mask allows you to see through fog, smoke, and other obscuring vapors as if they did not exist (this ability functions underwater as well, allowing the wearer to see through thick silt and other aquatic precipitates). Additionally, you are treated as one size category larger than you are and gain a +4 bonus on all saving throws made to resist the effects of wind while wearing a goz mask. A goz mask allows its wearer to breathe water for 1 hour per day—these minutes need not be consecutive, but must be expended in minimum increments of 10 minutes each.

Craft Wondrous Item, control winds, water breathing; Cost 4,000 gp.

Edit: Ninja'd. That happens when you read too many threads and don't refresh.

I already have a pretty nifty mask taking up my head slot, so it either a level of waves or spend 8k for glasses.

Or spend 12k for a +50% upgrade to your existing mask.

I think the mask it the much better option, but 4k extra to double up maybe not enough better. Or you could switch masks depending on the expected situation. If the other mask is less that 8k, it might be better to sell it and get a Goz Mask & upgrade it instead.
