Anyone given Sajan a bow?

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

At the end of Burnt Offerings, I actually ended up with both a Heavy Crossbow and the Deathbane Light Crossbow (this card loves me as I find it within the Perils of the Lost Coast scenarios) in my party of Seelah (uh yeah, d4 so no), Sajan, and Ezren. I decided WTH and gave Sajan a weapon Card Feat and switched the DLC and HC (neither require weapon proficiency btw) between Ezren and Sajan. This let me give him the 6th card Power Feat which pretty much guarantees that I'm going to draw either Mighty Fists or the DLC on turn one. Combined with 3 Blessings of Erastil, Sajan has been wreaking havoc in my game, and it will get better once I finally get rid of Alden Foxglove whom I have taken through this game since Local Heroes.

Just curious if anyone else has decided to weaponize the Monk.

One of his two advanced paths is Zen Archer, I'm sure there will be more once that path opens, might as well get used to it now. I thought the drunken master (or whatever it was called) looked more fun, but that's just personal taste. Kick some butt!

I'm interested in seeing the bow cards in AP3 and beyond because as it stands now, the best bow weapons don't require weapon proficiency to use without penalty. The only ranged weapon that is as good as those two weapons that requires wp is the Returning Throwing Axe +1, but it is only better if you use its recharge ability leaving Lem, Sajan, and Meri weaponless most times (Ezren can't gain wp so who cares) which isn't a great option, especially if you give him a 2nd weapon. I've never understood why anyone gives Meri wp in AP1 or AP2. Of course, I keep getting DLC early which kind of skews my results.

Returning Throwing Axe +1 is also two better at the Mill, which appears several times in Part 2.

That's a valid point only if you don't have someone with Melee in the party. Otherwise, you're going to put that person there with the RTA+1 person somewhere else.

Since my local groups don't much use Amiri or Seelah, that's a function of whether Valeros or Kyra is in the party. So far not for any of the groups that beat Part 2 while also having a ranged character who could use RTA+1.

Note that both ZAM and DM can get weapon proficiency available. The only thing you gain with ZAM is the recharging weapons instead of discarding, and the bonus on acquiring ranged weapons. Since DM also gets an effective hand size of 8 (extra draw at the start of every turn) and the nifty potion of healing recharge opportunities (hoping to combine it with standard bearers and/or amulet of fort) DM really seems a lot more appealing.

For myself, I saw picking up a weapon slot as a way to avoid having to get the magic fists feat and upping hand size. I keep daggers +1 so if I want to get them out of my hand, I always have the option to recharge them instead of revealing (gives 2d4+1, which is even slightly better than using a blessing). And if I'm doing several explores per turn (pretty common with Sajan since I play in a large group with lots of healing opportunities) its an extra 1d4+1 on every combat, instead of an extra d10 on just one combat.

I think in a smaller game with fewer explores per turn, just getting more blessings probably makes more sense for the versatility.

As someone who had just stopped at a 5 card hand in my 6-character game with him, I'm loving Sajan having 6 cards all of the time. First, I get my weapon much easier, and second, it really lets him cycle his deck that much faster. I was on his fourth or fifth turn (3-character game) and was shocked that I had cycled his deck already.

I plan on giving my 6-character Sajan the Drunken Master one and this one the Zen Archer. That's the fun in mixing things up.
