Hoping to get some PFS going in my area and need some advice.

GM Discussion

Hey all. I've recently gotten into Pathfinder and am thinking of trying to drum up some interest from my local gaming group. My question comes to what are some good PFS modules that I could start off with? I have the "First Steps" one and one other one I picked up in the Golem sale, Master of the Fallen Fortress, but I was hoping to get some advice from others on ones that might help to get some interest from people to start up with Pathfinder.

Thank you for any help.

Check out today's blog! The Confirmation comes out on wednesday and is a tier 1, repeatable adventure that is supposedly different every time you play it. Perfect for new pathfinders.

Depends on what type of scenario you want to run the new guys through. People will be able to give better suggestions if you ask for specific things, like say a dungeon crawl. Or a mystery. Things of that nature people are able to sift through their brain vaults of information and find the perfect scenario that will fit it.

I enjoyed First Steps when I played it, and I think my group liked Master of the Fallen Fortress, but I didn't run it for PFS, and we didn't actually get all the way through. It does have a decently cool PFS hook.

Thornkeep is another module that can be run multiple times, but has two fairly dangerous enemies, and player deaths often (but not always) put a damper on a gaming session.

Quest for perfection is a pretty cool low level three parter, with a boon at the end that is interesting for certain character types.

I always think of the early blakros museum missions as sort of prototypical pathfinder missions. They aren't as roleplay heavy, (more dungeon crawly) but I feel like it gives a good feeling for what pathfindering is about. Echoes of the Overwatched, is probably the one that is least this way. Penumbral Accords was my favorite, but that could just be because I like saving damsels in distress.

Edit:

I forgot We Be Goblins. It's a Free RPG Mod, and while not really Society related it is definitely a favorite. High pitched squeaky voices recommended for the goblins.

Actually its the Accursed Halls FROM Thornkeep that can be run multiple times for a Chronicle sheet each time. Not the rest of the Thornkeep levels.

.. You really don't want to run The Accursed Halls any more than is necessary. LOL

I dont know. I think its a great module. Its a dungeon crawl more or less with some diverse monsters in it and teaches new players to Scout up (always be prepared) when they do missions.

The number of characters nowadays you see with no tanglefoot bags or Alchemist fires at any level is appalling.

I'll definitely agree with you on that point. Thing is, I also know how many characters it's taken out, even prepared ones. A lot of people that come in, lose their first character to a mob that can literally instant kill it on a successful hit, then get told they're out for the night by their DM are just not going to try PFS again. That's my only qualm with it. Me, on a personal level, I love a challenge.

Hey guys, thanks for all the help. I'll definately look into some of the suggestions (might not look into the Thornkeep one. Sounds like an interesting mod, but don't really want to run people off when I'm trying to drag them in).

And really, I'm not looking for anything in particular but probably would be better to do mods that are more toward dungeon crawls initially. Once I get some interest drummed up, I can probably move to the ones that are not as much combat.

I would start with Master of the Fallen Fortress, then pick a season and go from there. Don't start with Season 5, just because you will run out of material quickly. Even though the scenarios can be played in any order, there are some overarching meta-plots that are pretty fun. Earlier seasons tend to be easier than later seasons.
