Hey guys. After my group finishes our current AP, we will be moving to Wrath of the Righteous. Two members have decided to be the paladin and cleric.I figured I would go the arcane caster.I want to play some sort of ice caster. I am open to other than sorcerer but I am more drawn to them because of spontaneous casting. My question is how would you guys build your ice caster? For stats we have 20 points. Pathfinder only material.

Irrisen IceMage = feat #1 :p

I can't seem to find the feat when I search for it. What book is it located in?

Well try being a Magus and working with your GM to turns some of the fire spells into Ice Spells or go Water Elemental Wizard.

You could take the Sorceror's Boreal Bloodline or the Rime-Blooded Bloodline. Another option is the Cold version of the Elemental Bloodline, as this allows you to convert energy damaging spells to go cold damage.

Another alternative is looking at the Arcanist from the Playtest, if your GM will allow it. They can spontaneously cast like Sorcerors. Paizo is re-working it a bit, but if there's a "cold" option in the re-worked version, then you could go with that. Since Arcanist uses INT, you'll have decent skills like a Wizard, but cast spontaneously like a Sorceror.

Our group does not use third-party products, but I noticed that the "Adventurer’s Handbook: Genius Guide Volume 1" from Super Genuis Games has a Cold Bchool of Magic for the Wizard.

Although not a spontaneous caster, you could also go with the Witch, use the Winter Witch Archetype, and select an appropriate patron (like "Winter").

Build will depend on which class you select. All of the above are basically single Stat classes. It also depends a bit on your character design style. For example, I tend to like a nominally high CON (my spellcasters usually have pretty good hit points) and enough STR to carry equipment without relying on someone else to carry my stuff. I also try to avoid dumping stats. But that's just me. My suggestion (based on my style of play) for stats are:

STR 10 (0)
DEX 14 (5)
CON 14 (5)
INT/CHA 16 (10) for spellcasting stat, 10 (0) for non-spellcaster stat
WIS 10 (0)

I'd pick a race that allows you to boost your spell-casting stat to 18 to start. If the race selected has a minus stat, you might have to adjust the foregoing a bit.

Another option is to dump stats and boost your casting stat to 18 + 2 = 20. I can't fault you for doing it, it's just not my style.

Good luck and I hope you have fun with WotR!

Do you guys think an ice caster would fair well? I figure it would because of all the hellborn creatures. I have seriously considered a winter witch as our current AP is Reign of Winter. My issue is always working on what I should memorize for the day, rather than just going well I have these spells to use.

An Ice-type character wouldn't be the first thing to spring to my mind for Wrath of the Righteous. Keep in mind if you're going to be fighting alot of Demons, Demons get Resistance 10 versus cold and many have SR. I assume you'll face opponents other than Demons over the 6 books, but you gotta figure on having to handle Demons at some point.

You may want to look for spells that don't require SR checks to affect a target, and see if they suggest a direction for your character.

Also, if you can find a Sorceror Bloodline that has spells you like, you can consider taking the Seeker Archetype as it gives you +4 on caster level checks to defeat SR when using a Bloodline spell. Be an Elf (+2 vs SR) and add the Spell Penetration feats and Demon SR won't be a problem (+6 vs SR for all spells, +10 with Bloodline spells).

My other idea was possibly an alchemist. I just don't know if that would be enough arcane support.
