Mounted Magecraft

Advice

So, I always liked the Mageknights in Fire Emblem Sacred Stones, and was wondering what I would do as a sorcerer to use a mount well. Any advice possible would help, since I'm not very experienced with either mounted fighters in PF or magic users in it.

The Exchange

I do enjoy Fire Emblem, but as per the Arcane getting a mount there aren't many options. However, there is the lovely option of Druid, who can get a Horse for free as well as cast Anima spells. And by Anima spells I mean spells of Fire, Ice, and Lightning.

Going the next level, taking a level of Cavalier and getting the feat "Boon Companion" lets you have an at-level character till level 5 or so. A level of Cavalier gets a you a point of BaB, extra health, more skills, and the most LOVELY Camel or Horse you could ever find. BTW Losing the horse sucks, don't do it. Druid makes you lose the BaB, but more spells is always lovely.

Now, the real question is did you make Ewan a Mage Knight or did Lute become one? Or were you like me and had both of them become it?

Sylvan sorcerer.

I used Lute more than Ewan, but he became one for me about half the time. Other half he went dark magic. Thanks so much for the advice! I'll look into all the options you and Triad suggested.

Max ride skill, and ride a mount, if the mount double moves you'll have some problems.

Sylvan sorcerer, with a Roc animal companion is probably the best way to go about it, as flying mounts at level 1 is pretty stronk.

Why bother with a real animal. Use the assorted mount summoning spells. They last hours per level.

Mount is 1st level and lasts 2 hours per level.

By the time you get bored of that Phantom Steed comes along.

Get Combat Casting and Uncanny Concentration like Remy suggested and you are always ready to go.

I would say you should stick with Mount because 1st level spells are easy to blow for a sorcerer as time goes on and when the horse dies you summon a new one. Bingo Bango Mounto Summono

Not nearly as cool though as being harnessed to your pet giant gecko and shooting lightning bolts from the ceiling. :P

Stronk? I know I'm a sociopath, but is that some new "word" like swag that I totally missed?

Silver Crusade

By 12th level the Phantom Steed can air walk and two levels later it is flying. I think that is about as cool. And by those levels when the mount inevitably dies you just summon a new one.

But in the end, it's just a horse. Besides, maybe the OP wants it combat viable.

If that's the case, form of the dragon can make it fly too. Along with being waaaaaaaay cooler.

Stronk is to Strong as "teh" is to "the". It's a misspelling that came to be an acceptable stand in for the original word.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Splendid. I feel like I have a much stronker vocabulary now.
