Question concerning intrinsic core classe and Hybrids

Would specific races be forbidden from taking certain hybrid classes? For example, take the Lama Matriarch, who counts as a level 6 Sorcerer despite not having any actual class levels (and to the point that she gets to stack new Sorcerer levels on top of the existing spell levels).

Is she forbidden from taking the Arcanist or the Bloodrager? And if not, how do these monster spellcasting abilities interact with the hybrid classes?

That's an interesting question, for sure. With different "styles" of spellcasting, you can't just say that they stack. Then again, the Lamia Matriarch doesn't actually HAVE levels of Sorcerer, it just casts as a Sorcerer, so realistically you'd just have a second pool of spellcasting, as if you multiclassed. I would say you should be able to take Arcanist or Bloodrager levels, but it would generally be less optimal than simply taking more Sorcerer levels or some Barbarian levels instead.

I agree with cartmanbeck.

The lamia doesn't have levels of sorcerer, so she could take arcanist.

However, the casting wouldn't stack, no different than if the lamia took wizard levels, making it a less optimal choice for her.

THAT is an EXCELLENT question. I would agree that she can take the classes, but it would be an inefficient and unwise choice to do so.

Good catch - this needs to be addressed in the final book, especially if the multi-class restriction remains intact.

Can she take levels in Sorcerer ?

If yes, then she should be able to take levels in an alternate class (such as the hybrids).

If no, then she should not be able to take levels in an alternate class, such as Arcanist ;-)
