BELKAR!!!

Advice

I AM THE SEXY SHOELESS GOD OF WAR!!!!!!!

I am building a Belkar for some shenannigans on my next game. I have my entire group planning on surprising the DM with the order of the stick. I am currently building Belkar, we are starting level 1 and expected to go at least 10. We are going to be in an entirely dark place, so we are allowed to burn a feat at level 1 for 30' darkvision. This is basically what i have so far, based on rolled stats to include racial mods.

13 Str
18 Dex
15 con
15 int
15 wis
13 cha

Lvl 1 feat = Darkvision
Will TWF 2 daggers (until weapon finesse only using 1)
ranged weapon will be the extra daggers
Wearing leather armor
Skirmisher Ranger for level 1.

Progression will be
2-ranger
3-barbarian
4-ranger
5-barbarian
6+ ranger

I was debating playing with animal companion for Mr Scruffy, but i think since he didnt really "use" it, to go with sharing bonuses.

Suggestions for favored? Chose undead (Xykon) and Contructs (Flesh Golem Roy)

He will go all TWF feats, strike back, skills focused on physical abilities.

Any thoughts on this character? Suggestions to make it more Belkar-y?

The SSGoW is famous for only having 8 wisdom (and certainly not much more charisma).

For favored enemy : goblins or orcs first.

Even if in the comic he is using 2 daggers, you'd better go with 2 small shot swords.

Indeed the Belkster has Wis below 10 and no ranks in survival and perception. His Int and Cha aren't great either, no matter how much you rolled. His poor mental stats are the cornerstones of this character. But his profession (cook) is maxed out. And he didn't get more than 1 level of Barbarian iirc.

Yea, but i rolled 16,15,15,15,15,13 lol, with the rolled stat rule i am stuck with those numbers lol, and i can just "rp" his inattentiveness for the perception. I forgot about cooking! good catch! I didnt really see anything in the comic suggesting he hates goblins and orcs first, i mean, yes he killed those kobolds but did he "racially hate them?" or did they just piss him off? Whats your rationale for orc/goblin? If only favored enemy let you choose "Anyone that isnt you" would be much easier then

BTW really hoping our new sixth player is willing to play ball and run with Durkon.. we dont have a durkon yet... might roll up one and try to convince DM to let him be NPC or allow me to control a second... but i digress

When was the last time you read the comic? Thats so far rom the truth.

I have read all the way up to the most current. He carried Scruffy around, but i only recall one or two fights where Scruffy actually DID anything. I'm sure my dm would give me a fluff, non combat cat pet if i asked, or i could even "buy" one.

Liberty's Edge

Mr. Scruffy is definitely Belkar's animal companion. Belkar's also a strength build, near as I can tell. He's able to actually hurt things after all. and odds are very good that his favored enemy is kobold. And the comic never actually says how many levels he takes in any particular class, having multiple levels of barbarian is fine.

I always figured that Belkar was a primary strength build, with an even number of levels between ranger and barbarian.
Plus, if you go barbarian, make sure that you get those rage powers that affect the companion as well.

Liberty's Edge

It is possible Belkar's first favored enemy is human followed by kobold. He does love murdering people after all.

Belkar has very few barbarian levels, a negative wisdom modifier (he can't cast ranger spells because of it) and Mr. Scruffy is definitely his animal companion.

I'd say human on the FE too, if you read the origin book, that's kinda how he ended up in the order... =)

If you're truely going for the OOtS experience: then this thread has what you need.

I think Belkar actually has a pretty high strength score, especially for a halfling. I tried building a Belkar clone once, and I pretty much came to the conclusion that he dumped all of his mental scores in favor of his physical ones.

I think his top favored enemies are goblins and humans, based on his skill at fighting both. He seems to have a harder time with other foes, including undead (though he gets better against them, so that might be his third choice).

You may find this useful.

Is it against the rule to link the comic? Been so long since I've read it and can't find it anywhere or remember the name of it

Just type order of the stick in google to find the comic.

As to Belkar I would go with favoured enemy humanoid (reptilian) as he hates kobolds and it is a likely choice to encounter in an underground game.

Order of the Stick

You could make a Belkar build for the playtest, and make him a Slayer.

I agree with this, but you might also look at the Guide archetype for an "Anyone who isn't you" favored enemy option.

Also an archetype that gives up spells (which you could just explain as low wisdom).
