"Syrinscape" ambient music / sound software?

At GenCon, I heard mention of a software program in the works with Paizo and another company.

It basically provides a soundboard editor and short clips and sounds, along with other music, to be used for RPG games.

I think the program was called Siren Scape, but a google search wasn't helpful.

Could someone cast a divination spell for me? Sage advice?

2 people marked this as a favorite.

It's called Syrinscape—we mentioned it in this press release.

Dark Archive

Quite possibly the most ingenious program ever created for a tabletop game. Mimicking almost all different kinds of sounds you would hear in an rpg environment it enables you to control the flow of sound, create sound mixes, etc.

They have different kinds such as forest ambient sounds, dungeon ambient sounds, combat sounds, dragon battle sounds, etc. If you want a good demonstration you just need to look it up on youtube.

If any gm is looking to really spice their game up I highly suggest they invest in this program. Its bloody brilliant and really makes your gaming table come alive in the players eyes!! :)

Silver Crusade

It's an absolutely wonderful program. I use it for all of my games.

I just started using it in my game this weekend. We are playing Carrion Crown, and I just kept the Witchwood playing in the background. It really added to the atmosphere of the game!

I downloaded the program recently and have been running it on my iPad. For the most part, it's great!

The biggest advantage to this program, compared with competitors, is that the soundscape is dynamically generated by mixing various elements. For example, the "spooky woods" soundscape might have some ominous music, wind moving through trees, distant howls of animals, light rainfall, and so on. The elements are all individually controllable, so if you want to, say, eliminate the rain or change the music volume, you can do that.

The best part is that the sounds are continually changing, so you don't get that "CD on a loop" effect where the sounds get repetitive after a while.

There are a few nitpicks. The iPad version was a bit buggy, and crashed fairly often on my old 2nd gen iPad. A new version just came out, so I'm hopeful that most of those issues have now been resolved.

The biggest problem that I've found is that I use my iPad for referencing PDFs of the rulebooks, and this program can't run in the background. So I go to look something up, and the music stops :-( So you will need a dedicated device (PC, tablet, whatever) in order to really use this program to its fullest.

There's a modest but pretty varied selection of sounds right now, and the author is coming out with new ones pretty frequently.

AH! After going to the website, I remember now that people were passing out little postcard flyers about this during PFS play at gencon! I should have paid more attention!

This looks great!

Anyone else using this? I have to say, the previews and samples over on the companies web site look pretty fantastic!

yeah Marc its freaking awesome :)

I downloaded Syrinscape about three weeks ago. I've been using it for my Champions of Old Korvosa campaign. It was a big hit, and so I bought a few more sound modules for it.

I'm considering their subscription service. Looks intriguing!

I haven't used it for RPG-ing yet (I plan on bringing it to my game this weekend), but it's PERFECT for writing. The ambient sounds make great white noise, and the music fades in and out so well that it stays atmospheric, not annoying. Really well done!

I bought the subscription, but I don't have a favorite module yet. I'm enjoying the versatility of the different scenes, for now.

(I should mention, I'm one of those people who can't work with background music...which is why I'm so impressed.)
