It's the die of the skill that you chose in the "Determine the Skill/Die You’re Using" action of the check. Noting that the die can change... (e.g. Lini's power) you only pick up the dice in the "Assemble Your Dice" action so that's when you resolve which physical dice you need. Until then basically you need to track that you need "2 Strength dice".

Just to be perfectly clear about this...
(1) If I reveal a weapon card that says:
"For your combat check, reveal this card to use your Dexterity or Ranged die + 1d8"
Then, I play a 'Blessing of the Gods' for 1 additional die, I would only get another Dexterity/Ranged die, I would not get another 1d8. This is because the 1d8 is the bonus, while the Dexterity/Ranged die is the base, and bonuses only get added once.
(2 - Updated Below) If a skill die is a subset of another skill -- for example my Arcane die is Charisma(d12) + 1 -- then a 'Blessings of the Gods' gives me an additional Charisma die + 1, effectively making it 2d12 + 2.
This is because the Arcane die itself is the Charisma die + 1, it is not the Charisma die + a bonus of 1.
Is that all correct?

Thank you for the clarification.
So for anyone else following along, #2 should be re-written as:
If a skill is a subset of another skill -- for example my Arcane skill is my Charisma(d12) + 1 -- then a 'Blessings of the Gods' gives me an additional Charisma(d12) die only, effectively making it 2d12 + 1.
This is because my Arcane skill is just the base Charisma die with a bonus of 1, and Blessings only add another base die, nothing else.
