Clarification on Barriers

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

Just wanted to clarify that barriers count as banes. Therefore when a barrier is undefeated, it is shuffled back into the location deck for another character to encounter. Thanks in advance for the clarification.

Basically, there are only two kinds of cards in the game: Boons and banes. A barrier is a type of bane.

You are correct.

From the top of page 17 of the rules.

page 17 of the rules wrote:

Bane Cards (Villain, Henchman, Monster, and Barrier)

Banes are cards you must defeat or suffer the consequences. Barriers
and monsters appear randomly in location decks, while most scenarios
call for specific villains and henchmen.

It should be clear from the paragraph title that Barriers are Banes. Unless the Barrier card specifies (such as the Battered Chest), then undefeated Barriers are shuffled back into their location deck.

Five types: Story cards, location cards, character cards, boon cards, and bane cards. See pp. 14–17.

Banes and boons are the only two kinds you can encounter in a location, though...

Whoops, you're right of course. That is what I meant.
