+2 Intelligence Ioun Stone

Liberty's Edge

Does this also give you ranks in a skill the same as the Headband of Vast Intellect +2? It doesn't say anything about it in the description.

I would assume so, just so I could deflect arguments about constantly reallocating skill points.

I had this discussion with a player this weekend. He says it does but i'm not sure.If it did it should be specified in the corebook.

What LazarX said.

Of course, if you want to avoid all that, just have the stone implanted.

My general rule as a GM. If you have two ways of looking at something, go for consistency with similar objects. there isn't any operant difference between a +2 Int head band and a +2 Int stone, so it generally makes sense to work them the same way. Using a consistent approach is a good way to avoid a GM headache, one of my primary commandments.

Not sure where I read it but JJ addressed this saying Int points from magical items always come with skills and associated skill points specifically to address the skill points gained from magic items granting additional INT.

They felt it was a better solution than trying to juggle skill points every time the magic item switched hands.

If it is an issue of GM headache, i surely would say it doesn't.One less item that makes you worry about non-allocated skill points.

Clectabled is correct. It grants you skill points for a single skill, which is locked in like the headband. They clarified this a few years back, unfortunately I don't have a link to that discussion.

Are the skills gained from the headband just INT skills or can they be any skill????

Grand Lodge

It can be any skill. It gives you +your level in skill ranks, but they don't stack with points you already have in the skill, they overlap, so you use whichever is higher.

It does add a skill at max ranks - FAQ a few months ago semi-clarified this.

Just in the same way you get +to hit and +Dam for +str stone or any other stone, you get the Int.

Otherwise there's not much reason to have it for any class but mage.
