I am thrilled to announce that game industry veteran Stan! and well-known developer/editor/writer Christina Stiles are joining me as I form my new venture, Rogue Genius Games!

Stan!'s experience with the RPG industry significantly predates my own, and includes working as a graphic designer and line editor for West End Games; an editor and game designer for TSR, Inc.; an author, senior game designer, and creative director for Wizards of the Coast, Inc.; and the creative content manager at Upper Deck Entertainment.

Of course he was also Creative Vice President for The Game Mechanics, Inc. and co-founder (with R. Hyrum Savage) of Super Genius Games where he and I worked together for the past four years. I’m happy he’s agreed to come on board Rogue Genius Games as Creative Director.

Christina Stiles’ name appears in a number of award-winning RPG products, including serving as editor for the Origins-winning Black Sails Over Freeport, and adventure and other writing contributions to Ennie-winning Streets of Zobeck by Kobold Press. She’s been involved in many, many more excellent rpg products, including serving as lead designer for Journeys to the West, also for Kobold Press. She comes on board Rogue Genius as our Senior Developer, and already has a slate of projects in the works!

Please welcome Stan! and Christina aboard! We are delighted to have them in our lab here at Rogue Genius Games!

Why, do you prefer the Ferris Wheel?

'Cause I have my arms in the air and I scream in the loops.

Can you tell us something more about how this affects products such as Warlordls of the Apocalypse and Talented line?

Owen will be bringing those with him. He has a talented barbarian in the works. It should release in December, when the company is up and going. Work still continues on WotA.

Heya Folks,

So as of today I am no longer a member of Super Genius Games. The company and I had ceased to be a good fit, so we can to a mutually satisfactory agreement that has me no longer being a member of the Super Genius Entertainment LLC, and no longer the lead developer of Super Genius Games. I sincerely wish SGG good fortune in all its future endeavors, and I am very proud of the work I did while part of it.

A lot of that work is going to come with me in my new venture, Rogue Genius Games, which I am in the process of spinning up. I have also brought Warlords of the Apocalypse with me, and thus those of you with preorders are now my customers rather than SGG's.

To be clear this has nothing to do with my joining Green Ronin (though the timing is a heck of a coincidence), and I have every intention of continuing my work on things like the Godlings, Time Thief, and Talented product lines. Though it's going to take a little time to get my feet back under me. (I'll also need to get my tagline in these forums changed.... maybe "Developer Green Ronin, Rogue Genius Games").

I am sure more questions will come as we move forward, and I'll have a lot more to talk about when the ink is a little dryer.

Edit: Ninja'd!

Congrats, all. Best of luck in the new endeavor.

Sooooo, what will be up on deck first? :)

any chance of consolidating your "universal" archetypes into one product under rogue genius owen?

Every chance! I just need to finish doing all the background and legal stuff, put out new product, transfer ownership of the stuff I got from SGG, set up corporate accounts...

I WILL get to it!

I honestly don't know yet. Likely a Wayside, or Talented barbarian, or a Mythic Menagerie, or something from one of the freelancers who decided to Go Rogue recently...

Congratulations!

yay! the only thing holding me back from getting them was the fact that I would have to reference 4 different products to get the most out of them.

WOOOOOHOOOO!

Congrats, all! I've enjoyed several of your past projects and expect the same into the future...

Good luck Owen and Co.
I'll keep my eyes open for your products to hit the shelves.

Great to see the geniuses picking up where they left off.

Congrats and good luck to you all!

If you go with talented barbarian that's an insta-buy for me!

Talented Barbarian is absolutely one of the early things RGG will release!

There will be another Waysides, a lizardfolk race, and a book about tomes from my development side. Tomes is in Owen's hands at the moment.

For some reason it seems funny to consult a tome of tomes.

(That is seriously the name of a book we are working on)

Okay, I'll scratch "Tome of Tomes" off our list of potential names. :)

Is talented ranger in the near future? I love the talanted line and would buy every single core class and every advanced player's guide like Magus etc. Even if I never play or plan on playing a class or my players never do I will support every talented guide. I just love the concept without going to a point system. My curent war of the damned campaign includes a talented monk, talented fighter, and spell-less ranger. Would love to see spell-less ranger part of talented ranger.

Thanks for continuing the work regardless of the company.

Talented Ranger is due right after Talented Barbarian, though obviously I don't have a date for that just yet, since I am still creating a company!

Another idea for a cool product line is where there are basically deity-specific archetypes for the Cleric and/or Druid. The idea is that instead of having the more generified base class with a couple of domains slapped on it is a Talented Cleric as a tool-box to make a more specific divine theme.

I really liked the Specialty Priest concept from 2nd Edition AD&D. That old hardback "Forgotten Realms Adventures" was used quite a bit, we just imported the deities to other settings.

I also liked how the spell list was also different based on the deity. Sire, the domains as they are is a whole lot simpler, but it is just cooler to have the spell list shift around a bit as you have different Divine casters in the party. The major vs. minor for each spell school (called "sphere" for divine casters) was kind of clunky in that it gave a maximum spell level, so at lower level you still had mostly the same spells. A better way might be to alter spell level here and there for different spell set-ups. For example, most people cast Cure Light Wounds as a 1st level spell, but a character that follows a Healing god might cast 2nd-level healing spells as first level.

Another thing that could be attached to the system is where sins/code of conduct can be tied into the system. Higher level characters are held to a higher ideal, so being sinful (as per your deity) could incur a granted-power level penalty. For example, the character is a level 5 Cleric, but he has been naughty, so as far as his Cleric spells and powers are concerned he is only level 3 or 4. The greater the sin, the bigger the penalty, and you have to atone for it.

Wow I spouted off far more than I thought I would. But there is so much potential to make the divine casters FEEL different than arcane magic and still make sense.

Wow, this sounds an awful lot like Hackmaster 5th Edition's take on 'Divine' spellcasters- where each has their own individualized spell-list.

Scarab Sages

Sounds very much like the ideas I saw proposed in 'Imagine' magazine (TSR UK), for 1st Edition, in 1984(?).

I've always liked the idea of themed lists, but could see some resistance from players who expect every spell to be freely available at a specific PC level.
Has big knock-on effects on item pricing too, which is why PF Society had to step in on those paladin and ranger wands that (by RAW) were cheaper than ones made by a cleric.

On topic, good luck to Owen, Stan! and Christina, who I'm sure have the skills and name recognition to make this a success.
