So, last night I had a player come up to me and tell me he couldn't find the description of a backpack. Both me and two other GMs, said it should be in his CRB. Yeah, it says 2lbs on the list and gives a price.
And NADA, as in no description, no carry weight, no entry. So, just wanted to give you guys an FYI that it isn't there.
Cheers

I think the developers know that. It's generally assumed you would use real world analogs to determine how much your backpack might be able to carry or withstand. There just aren't enough people out there who don't know what a backpack is or what its supposed to do to warrant much page space.
If you absolutely must have mechanics though, the Ultimate Equipment book expanded on backpacks a little bit.

The page does say "Some of the pieces of adventuring gear found on Table: Goods and Services are described below" (the bolding is mine). So not everything is described (such as the sewing needle, the fishhook, or the bedroll). Essentially, they didn't describe things that don't really need to be described in detail.

To add to Ravingdork's point, I have found often I just use real world equipment catalogs for info and it works fine. I figure the equipment lists are samples and starting points. I have no issue adding to the list or makeing a GM call when a question is asked.
On top of that, I really don't want Paizo to spend page after page with a large discription of items that are mundane and common. We all know what a fishhook is and how it might be used fro example. I would rather they use the pages to add new and fun magical items, monsters, and adventure ideas. :-)
