Dwarven Favored Class Bonus for Bard

Rules Questions

When playing a Dwarven Bard, I have the optional Favored Class Bonus

(Reduce arcane spell failure chance for casting bard spells when wearing medium armor by +1%. Once the total reaches 10%, the bard also receives Medium Armor Proficiency, if he does not already possess it.)

Does that mean that when the Dwarf gets the Medium Armor proficiency, it also acts with no spell failure? or just at the -10%?

The only alteration to the arcane spell failure chance is the 1% per optional favored class bonus taken. Gaining medium armor proficiency doesn't alter the arcane spell failure chance of medium armor warn.

You can, however, combine this with arcane armor training or arcane armor mastery to further reduce the penalty, possibly to 0. Sure, it's a feat tax and a minor action tax, but its very dwarfey

Yeah the Bardic proficiency specifies that it can cast in Light Armor without ASF, and the Favored class bonus doesn't indicate that it somehow allows you to also apply that.

You could continue to take the Favored Class bonus to reach up to 20% less spell failure. Combined with Mithral armor, you could easily drop it to 0.

In summary, a Fighter 1 Bard 1 can't run around in Heavy armor with no ASF.
