We have been running for just over two years, and are currently halfway through the 4th adventure (Forest of Spirits). If you know nothing else about the AP, they are currently in Tian Xia, enroute to Minkai. We lost one of our players recently, and I'd like to bring the party back to 5 PCs, maybe...

I say maybe because I'm not 100% sure I want to disrupt the party chemistry, so I'm going to be up front and say that I'm planning to be very picky over any submissions, and reserve the right to take none if they don't suit. I agree that sounds pretty silly, but... well, you know.

What I'd really like is an active player to infuse some RP blood into the ongoing story. I'd like someone that gets into the NPC/PC interactions and discussion. The party currently consists of a monk, 2 x gish melee (magus and vanguard) and a healbot. They really need either a skill monkey, arcane caster, or both, so I'll be partial to those roles.

For the crunch, I'm looking at a 10th or 11th level character, 20 point buy. Equip with 50k gold in gear, standard considerations and restrictions.

For the fluff, since this PC wasn't around for the start of the AP, they won't have the tie to the major NPCs that the other PCs do, but you also aren't shackled to them either. Since they are in Tian Xia, oriental-style characters may be easier to work in.

Lastly, let me know if you have any knowledge of the AP. Not a big deal, as it can help me weave the player knowledge into the character's story.

Yes congrates it is difficult to keep a game going that long. I would be willing to put my hat in the ring. I have had an idea for a magic user (likely a wizard) I wished to create for awhile this gives me the excuse to flesh him out :) Will see about putting together and posting a link within the next several days.

By the way when you mention a skill monkey is their a particular set of abilities the party is lacking that is of concern? A trait or 2 could help make up the deficiency if its not in my class list.

I'd like to submit my idea for an Archaeologist Bard, statted up to 11th level. I hope he's everything you are looking for. Arcane caster, tons of skills and additionally when he's not slinging spells he's pretty decent with a bow (you look fairly melee heavy).

Do you have a deadline for proposals & what in particular are you looking for when you say 'skill monkey'?

Gotcha... that shouldn't be too much trouble. If you have a Tian PC in mind, especially from Minkai, they'd have a good idea of what is going on there, vs the Avistan PCs.

@ Irnk: No specific deadline set. "Skill monkey" is up to interpretation, but we lost our bard, who covered a lot of the knowledges, etc. Not trying to say that the party *needs* a rogue, specifically, but they've got melee dps and heals well-covered.

I see that you bought a wand of max magic missiles. Just to be clear, you know you won't get sneak attack damage with that? I just ask because I had a previous player who built their entire character around that concept...


I am interested. Working up a Kitsune trickster rouge with maybe a few level in sorcerer or wizard. The idea being that his clan were retainers to Ameiko's family prior to their leaving Minkai. After Ameiko's family left Minkai the clan has dwindled adrift with out a lord and the character see Ameiko as a chance to reclaim the clans lost golden age.

New silly question. As I have schemed further, another character idea has bubbled forth & I wanted to be certain it would not be something you reject outright since it involves Summoners. Specifically, a Master Summoner with a Disable Device focused Eidolon, thus fulfilling much of both stated 'needs'...


Honestly, not a huge fan of summoners, but I wouldn't reject it outright... =P


Curious. I just had a jade regent campaign be dropped by a DM who simply did not have the schedule for it anymore, and here is one looking for a replacement.

I already have ample adjustments in mind to both background and crunch; would you be at all interested in having a charming, ambitious kitsune sorceress with a rebellious streak and a dangerous legacy rearing its head?

Feel free to browse the profile and imagine (or even suggest) suitable changes; I haven't had the chance to bring out a kitsune or a sorcerer in any games yet, and I'm quite fond of Asian themes, especially those that don't skimp on the RP. I think with some tweaking, this one could fit right into the grand scheme of things, without even sacrificing much of the character's essence. I can even see a few NPC's that could easily know her, with varied opinions, heh.

This is Alaren El'deren mechanically. I tried to make him on par with your other characters combat wise, and focused on a couple skills for some of my skill points and a lot of varying skills for the rest. I've already Pmed you what I have in mind for him, but I will need help with the Ninja clan thing, since I don't have access to/can't find the material where he might have come from. But I'm definitely willing to work with ideas you have, if you got any. He's obviously got a lean towards stealth (he's a ninja XD), but I gave him a lot of varying skills so he could be useful in a host of situations. Knowledges... I got a rank in most of them. >.> I can change it up to get a couple more in them but even at 12 skill ranks a level that's a -lot- of knowledge skills.

Also, a note to everyone making a character on these Aliases. Apparently its better to format it all in word, write it out in word, and then copy it over. Because the site actually times out after about 30 minutes, and if you spent 32 minutes getting all the Skills organized before saving... yeah... XD

Edit: Gear wise he's almost done. There's about a dozen different little things (special arrows and so on) I want to buy. oh, yeah. He's an elf that uses a long bow. He'll have finesse able weapons but they'll basically be emergency cake.


I might be interested in joining. I don't know much about Jade Reagent though. Since you're looking for an arcane, I'd submit this guy. He was built for a lvl20 planar campaign that never started, but I like him enough I still want to see him play.

If you're interested, I'll rebuild him to lvl 10-11. If I find free time I may do it anyway (though that's tricky =/ grad school is busy!) His hook would be his love of exploration. Could be fun since it'd be during an 'earlier' time than when I first built him. Exploring far-off lands, and jumping into an adventure, is right up his alley.


Well, here's what I was able to come up with. I'm familiar with the JR story in the large brush-strokes but I've never played through the AP in its entirety so the smaller details/actual gameplay is above my knowledge.

Plot Stuff:
I've designed Hokuto to take advantage of what I know about the plot and -- unless your PCs have already reached that point -- could serve as their kitsune "contact" they make inside the Forest of Spirits.

Anything that you feel would need to be changed/adjusted, just let me know. With her class abilities/spells she serves a direct damage/battlefield control role thanks to her Heavens mystery.

I'd like to submit a Kitsune Bard named Kiyomi Matsumata. Kiyomi is ideally a costumer and performer at a small theater, where she does the make-up for the performers and plays her harp during the shows, using its magic to interject amusing suggestions into the audience. I have no experience with the Jade Regent other than a knowledge of the overall story. I run 1 PbP on here and play in several others. I can post multiple times during the work week and once or twice on the weekends.

A game running for TWO years?! That's awesome! That endurance and longevity alone is enough to pique my interest, so I'd like to submit Takamaru for consideration. I'm still working on his profile, but the bulk of the crunchy bits are there. He's a Ninja 2 / Samurai (ronin) 9 originally from Minkai.

Regarding my experience, I've *very* little exposure to this AP. The esteemed James Martin (hi again, James!) and I were both in one an age ago, but it fizzled before we ever even left Sandpoint. The background ideas I have were born entirely out the character's traits and my assumptions as to how the campaign is eventually expected to end. It's still pretty vague and I expect details could be adjusted to suit the plot as needed, but here's the jist of it.

Brief background:
His background, in brief, is that he was born a bastard to a highly influential family in Minkai. In addition to that black mark, he is also associated with a prophetic return of a lost foe (presuming this is Ameiko's line returning to claim their birthright?), and his appearing heralds the supposed end of the imperial line (the ruler who I presume currently occupies the throne in Minkai). Considering both of these fateful traits, his death as an infant was ordered, but his mother was unable to do end the child's life. Instead, she sent him down river (ala Moses from the Old Testament) and a member of a small, dedicated clan found him.

Takamaru was raised initially by this clan (as a ninja), but found his inborn sense of honor constantly conflicted with the principles of the clan. He left at a young age and has wandered the countryside ever since, staying far from Minkai, as a wandering crusader - helping those in need and opposing anything resembling tyranny. He is loved by the outlying towns folk and villagers, but hated by the nobility in the larger cities, especially Minkai.

I am still doing up my character but I am at least satisfied with the back story :) So I decided to set up a LINK to the character Avatar. For convenience I will post Hiriko's fluff here.

Appearance
Hiriko carries herself with a dignified air and generally appears dressed in the high end fashions of the Minkai Empire with the help of her Sleeves of Many Garments. Hiriko favors light natural colors that highlights her coal black hair and delicate features.

Personality:

Despite Hiriko's aloof appearance she is a caring person and uses small acts of kindness to bring comfort and a sense of ease to others. Her kindness is tempered with a powerful intellect and resolve that she uses to fight against evil.

Background:

Hiriko was born to a successful merchant family. Her parents had tried so long to have a child that once it happened they doted on their daughter Hiriko. She grew up spoiled and vain from the constant attention under the watchful eyes of her tutors as she learned the skills of an aristocrat’s wife. One of Hiriko's tutors was an older man with bulging eyes and wispy white hair named Budi that fanned the flames of Hiriko's vanity while also teaching her magic that could be used to vex or harm her enemies. At first it was fun to annoy her rivals with small tricks. However as time went on it became harder to hide her activities and Budi's encouragement began to take on a harder edge as he directed Hiriko to perform crueler acts of mischief. Despite Hiriko’s concerns of being caught Budi seemed to have a silver tongue and was able to convince Hiriko to perform these acts despite her misgivings. However when Budi attempted to convince Hiriko to set a small fire in the warehouse that stored the bulk of her families silk waiting to be transported out. Hiriko balked at the idea and flatly refused to take part in the destructive prank. With her refusal Budi's feature began to change as the color of his skin took on a golden hue. As his eyes began to bulge out even more then before as horns also began to grow out from his forehead. Hiriko would have likely been killed but her cries for help caught the attention of other villagers and where able to chase off the Oni but not before he cursed Hiriko such that her outer beauty would reflect her inner self. Her close ties with the escaped Oni and the curse that left Hiriko twisted and hunched with the exaggerated features of those evil spirits made her no friends in the village. Some even suggested that she should be killed to prevent her taint from spreading. Fortunately for Hiriko cooler heads prevailed and a priest was consulted. He directed them to allow Hiriko to make a pilgrimage alone to a distant shrine where she would need to be cleansed of the Oni’s taint. Despite the villages misgiving and the concerns of her parents Hiriko was allowed to make the long journey. Travel was difficult but Hiriko was able to finally make it to the small shrine. At first she was overjoyed to have made it to the shrine but once there she found that the shrine was sealed by a heavy wooden door.
After pounding on the door with no success all Hiriko could do was return unsuccessful or wait. Hiriko waited 3 days as hungry and cold as she had been on the road. Hiriko weeping roused the Kuma of the shrine who had barred Hiriko’s entrance and had refused to speak to her up to that point because of her lack of an offering to the shrine. The added insult of weeping at his shrine roused the warrior spirit "Who dares shed cowards tears at THE WARRIOR KOTO’S DOOR!" Pulling herself together Hiriko answered "Hiriko Itou". "Why do you curl up at the door of my shrine like a cur waiting for scraps HIRIKO ITOU!"Hiriko quickly answered "I was sent by a priest on a pilgrimage to purge my spirit of a curse placed on me by an evil spirit, please help me." The voice was still for a moment before responding. The heavy wooden doors flew open to reveal a ghostly warrior decked out in elaborate armor that wouldn’t have looked out of place on a general a halberd held high in his hands as he advanced on the now cowering girl "I will take the Oni taint from you with a single blow." Hiriko could only shake as she prostrated herself to the angry warrior spirit and begged for her life. The Kuma listened to her please and stayed his hand allowing her one a year and a day of life but only if she acted as a human caretaker to his shrine as payment for his generosity. Hiriko eagerly agreed and she served her spirit Master Koto for the year and a day. In that time she tended the shrine sleeping on the hard ground outside, eating only the wild berries that perpetually grew near the shrine and drinking the water from the nearby stream. As time went on Hiriko body began to straighten and the exaggerated features where slowly replaced by her natural looks reflecting the inner harmony that she found in the simple tasks set before her until she looked as she had before the curse. However she truly was a different person that met Koto at the end of service. On the day of Hiriko execution she knelt quietly facing the shrines door as the sun raised high enough in the sky to wash everything in a red and gold blanket. When the door opened Koto stood solemn as ever. Hiriko's only words where "I am ready Master Koto." before allowing her hands to fall at her sides. Without a word Koto took up his bow and let lose an arrow that flew true Piercing Hiriko’s heart. Hiriko felt the impact but when she opened her eyes she was still alive and unharmed with the curse gone. When Koto spoke it was the same strong booming voice but held a hint of pride. "You are proven worthy and now carry the heart of a warrior, I give you your life live it well." That began Hiriko’s journey as a champion of the light.


Still working... I'll submit, hopefully tonight, a sorcerer concept.


I can't really right up a character without the answers I asked for... so I guess I'm done then? o.0?

Kumyo is a former imperial courtier forced to flee Kasai. An idealist, she still hopes and fights for the restoration of imperial power in Minkai.

The only loose end left is the equipment. I have some gold to spend still, mostly for scrolls, wands and potions.

Ah, okay then. -nods- Was worried since technically Alaren doesn't have much of a background until such details are sorted out and that tends to turn DM's away from characters.
