I've seen Sarenite and Sarenrite, but I prefer Sarenraen. I have no idea what's 'official.' That could be yet another thing that followers of gods disagree upon, particularly gods like Sarenrae, who are worshipped in countries that speak very different languages, and would have very different conventions on the matter...

Does anyone else feel the strange compulsion to play a gay dwarf who's running from his arranged marriage?

Not strange at all. I'd actually be very fascinated by a gay dwarf who is running from an arranged marriage, but who also a) feels that he is damaging his clan in some fashion and b) actually likes his bethrothed as a person and so feels that she should have the right to marry (same as he does) someone whom she loves. If the GM were agreeable, I would then start working out from which Dwarven stronghold all involved parties hail, what their positions within their clans and the clan's traditions are and maybe strive towards having the character work out a complex agreement with a cleric of Bolka that leaves all parties satisfied in some fashion.

GM permitting, I would have that be the endpoint of my character's steep learning curve that religions need not always be the straight expression of their deity's will (yes, in spite of commune , but I'll leave that tangent for now :)), either by exposing him to Dwarven differences, or by letting him see the Sarenraen/Sarenite conflict or the Iomedaen (or 'Iomedaen') Burners in Mendev.

Sorry for hijacking your idea like this.

Now that's an idea. Thanks Set, this will definitely play into my current campaign in some fashion. *starts to ponder*

One aspect from the 'too many gods' that I find facinating/annoying is heretics.

I've given a lot of thought to Dexios' heresy for example, that Shizuru and Saranae are two faces of the same deity. (Possibly two seperate faces of a third being?) OF course in game, Saranaen artifacts won't work for him, anymore than a Saranaen dervish dancer could go to town with a Shizuruan katana.

I wish we could see more 'flexible' deities, like in Hamunaptra. So if Dexios worshiped "The Lady" she'd exist as a co-deity of Saranae and Shizuru. Basically both would give him his spells, like they were one deity.

Now clearly this would beg to be abused. "I worship Fred! He's an aspect of these two gods, who give me these two cool domains. It doesn't matter that one's LG and the other's CE, they work together!" But I do wish sometimes that the gods weren't so codified.

Dear poor venerable alignment system,

We really try to make you fit into our modern sensibilities don't we? You codify things so black and white, and perhaps that was good for a time. Sure most proclaim there is room for grey areas, and perhaps there are, but it seems to me when it comes to divisive issues, your tags of good and evil are often used to represent the opposing parties viewpoints. That is not to say, some of these things being discussed are widely accepted as such, but your presence is not required in all threads on Paizo forums.

I feel sorry for you sometimes when I'm not despising you. Who knows, one of these days you may get retired?

Sincerely,
Asurasan

Obvious kidding aside, I wonder if sometimes Paizo developers have ever felt handicapped when creating a god/character/theme/creature due to the Alignment of said thing? I would guess not, but I am a little curious if concessions are ever made in order to fulfill an alignment's requirement?
