Like I said, screwed.

DM: You are Mythic Teir 1 now!
Fighter: yeah, but I'm apparently an Archmage... what do I do with that?
DM: Well you get some bonus hit points, not as many as if you were a champion or a defender though. And you HAVE to pick one of these great spell casting powers... well, they won't do anything for you but write it down anyway. Oh, and you get a mythic feat, take dual path.
Fighter: Ok, so I'm mythic... but if I really want anything useful from it I have to take this dual path feat, great... thanks?
DM: Well, you picked Archmage from the deck... you should have made a wizard.
Wizard: Yeah, I got Heirophant... guess I'm taking dual path too.
Cleric: I got Marshal... yay?
Sorcerer: I don't want to hear it... I got Guardian.
Rogue: Ha! You all suck! I got Trickster!

I'm sorry... I just do not see the point in dictating such a vital character development point. This is no different than telling someone what class they will take at level 3.

DM: I know you have been a fighter for 2 levels, but I really feel that you should diversify... draw a card from this deck and it'll tell you what your 3rd class level will be!
Me: Umm... no. *leaves and finds another game*

Not saying you are doing anything wrong, if your players are cool with it great. Just stating that my personal opinion is that it sucks.

Let em Rephrase, they get to randomly draw from apropriate paths quite obviously the melee wont have access to things un-useful. But yes, the group im running through it are all about the randomness of things. (we usually have issues trying to decide what to play when we start a new campaign. the last two campaigns have featured some form of premade made by the dm randomly and chosen randomly by the players.)

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Rulebook, Starfinder Adventure Path, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

No, it's insane and stupid to force players to take the paths which were assigned by the writers to the traits. There was pretty much a firestorm of outrage over that when the player's guide was published (joined by yours truly with zeal), because this kind of predeterminism is anathema to good roleplaying.

James already said in the past that letting people freely choose which trait they want to take without forcing them into the associated path is completely okay. I still don't get why they even put that forced path association into the player's guide, though.

Randomness can be a good fix for indecisiveness.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

Dulgrin, Dwarven Cleric (Forgemaster) of Torag
Gregor, Human Paladin of Iomedae
Tyreal, Aasimar Paladin (Warrior of the Holy Light, Fiends, Vengeance) of Iomedae
Elsa, Human Paladin of Erastil
Arcanis, Aasimar Magus

We're really breaking the mold with this one, I swears it.

Level was was a hilarity of early derpitude thanks to a lack of healing potential and some truly unlucky dice.

Beginning level two shortly with a ridiculous pool of Lay on Hands throughout the party; we'll see where that road takes us!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Toshiji of the Black Banner, Tengu Ronin Samurai (Champion)
Valana Fireshaker, Human Barbarian (Guardian)
Malakai Nicodemus Volker, Elvish Child Spellbonded Conjurer (Archmage)
Wayne Wurgrut, Half Orc Cleric of Iomedae (Hierophant)
Salamoon Sorbel, Human Ranger (Trickster)

So far, it's been a blast to play. We're at sixth level and first tier, and this party is pretty balanced mechanically (although the ranger has pumped out upwards of 150 damage in a single round before) and interesting to watch in role play. The Tengu Samurai believes that since exiting the tunnels beneath Kenebres we've all died, and been transported to an evil afterlife for our lives of iniquity.

I play the child wizard. It's been somewhat of a challenge, roleplaying a child in the midst of a horrifying war, but it's definitely worth it for the chance to play the most intelligent person in Golarian without having gone through puberty yet.

Wyren, Aasimar Paladin of Ragathiel with the Oath against Fiends
Lang, Tiefling Hexcrafter Magus
Vallus, Aaismar Zen Archer Monk
Prowltusk the Many-Scarred, Half-Orc Oracle of Lore

We just hit 4th level and are beginning the final leg of the first book. Thus far it's been fun. The paladin, magus, and zen archer have been cleaning up, while the lore oracle acts in a support role, healing, buffing, and making absurd knowledge checks. I don't know what mythic paths everyone will take once we get to that point.

So far, the only problem we've been having is dealing with all the stinking clouds and other demonic mischief.

So the group I DM for has started this tonight. The cast is as follows:

Brock, a Human Fighter (Archer archetype) who had Stolen Fury in the past. Woke up the morning of the Armasse celebration with a slamming hangover, and his day hadn't gotten any better.

Gram, a Gnome Wizard (Illusionist school) and Riftwarden Orphan. Attended Armasse with a view to make a little coin with his illusions, and ended up with less coin and more caverns than he expected.

Thomas, an Aasimar Paladin of Iomedae (Sacred Servant archetype) who was Exposed to Awfulness. Armasse was meant to be a special day for the Paladin, sacred in Iomedae's eyes, and he is now seeking to get to the surface and make the Storm King pay.

Vanaren, a Tiefling Rogue and Child of the Crusade. Another day in Kenabres, surrounded by bigots of all stripes - until the demons attacked and all manner of man and tiefling were equal in their struggle to survive this day.

Due to a couple of real-life things coming up, my group's line up has changed. The player of Brock is no longer with the group, and as such has been written out of the story by a rockfall triggered by a severe tremor that also brought down the mongrelman guard tower.

In his place, we have Lagos, a tiefling Ranger, who channels his own Stolen Fury into defeating the enemies of Kenabres. Having fallen down a crevasse in the southern portion of the city and come to consciousness a few hours later, he was found by the party wandering the tunnels attempting to find a way back to the surface.

The Paladin has also decided to change his archetype from Sacred Servant to Oath-bound (Oath against Fiends), as he felt it suited the campaign/AP better - given that neither archetype changes a level-1 ability, I let him change it this time around.

We're just about at the end of Chapter 1 of Incursion. Started out with a home-brew build up that ended with a party excited for Armasse festivities and instead got an invasion.

The Party:

Ezra - Human, Male Paladin of Iomedae. He's just been possessed by the spirit of a member of the first crusade who was trapped in a statue in the caverns. Should be interesting...

Tau - Human, Female Warrior from Mwangi. She's had an interesting time adapting to the non-jungle world.

Oreon - Dwarf, Male Gunpowder Inquisitor of Iomedae. He and Ezra have already butted heads over the execution of a bandit. I sense more conflict in the future.

Harahel - Aesimir, Female Sorcerer. Flighty and obsessed with fire. Half the party is ready to kill her already.

Taron - Elf, Male Ranger. Favored enemy Outsiders (player took this before he knew what we were running even.) He's the most level head right now, but his obsession with destroying demons may end up becoming a danger to the party.

Peri - Human, Female Cleric of Iomedae. DMPC. Newly ordained, naive and in love with Ezra even though she won't state it. Everyone in the party loves her and wants to protect her. Can't wait to see what happens when she falls to the darkness.

I am really surprised by the number of party with 6 or more players.

I have honestly no idea how you even manage it, combats must take a while, making decision for the group must be a pain and you have to tweak the whole AP encounters and itemization.

Impressive.

I have quite a few games of PF currently, either as GM or player and none of them is above 5 players (only one is 5 and it feels already like a lot), most of them are 4 and even one is only 3 players.

Wrath of the Righteous is our 3 players one and we have:

Ormeriel Angevent: Aasimar - Paladin (Oath of Vengeance - Oath Against Fiends)

Gastor: Elf - Wizard (Spellslinger)

Angelo: Aasimar - Lore Oracle (Dual Cursed)

So far it is challenging but doable but we are only midle of the first module.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32

I felt that this should be a knights only campaign. To encourage this I gave the players Mounted Combat, an extra trait & more starting equipment if they chose a Class / Archetype from a list I created (plus these classes would count as Fighter Lvls / 2 to qualify for feats).

The Classes on that list were: Barbarian, Bard, Cavalier, Cleric, Fighter, Inquisitor, Magus, Oracle, Paladin, Ranger and Samurai.

I won't list all the available Archetypes, but there about 60. My players made the following (all are human):

Akratos: Ranger (Skirmisher) / Child of the Crusade / Order of the Fiery Lance = Trickster

Axia: Magus / Riftward Orphan / Family member of a Taldan Barony = Archmage

Bahtor: Cleric (Crusader) / Exposed to Awfulness / Order of St. Clydwell = Guardian

Bram: Cavalier (Strategist) / Stolen Fury / Knight of Ozem = Champion

Jond: Paladin (Shining Knight) / Child of the Crusade / Order of Heralds = Marshall (+ some Guardian)

Kevros: Paladin / Touched by Divinity / Eagle Watch = Hierophant (+ some Champion)

Akratos & Jond are half-brothers. Akratos is a bastard.

Aasimar - Paladin (Oath of Vengance/Sacred Servant)/Lunar Oracle, Champion
Aasimar - Metal Oracle/Dragon Disciple, Hierophant
Human - Fighter (Tower Shield Specialist)/Cleric, Guardian
Human - Magus (Kensai/Bladebound), Archmage

I was originally playing a Sage Sorcerer, but rebuilt the character into the Magus early on. Our second session of Book 2 is tonight, and our party's looking pretty decent right now.

Liberty's Edge

My players made their characters last week using an organic creation based on the tables in Ultimate Campaign and changed over to my own ideas and themes.

Aasimar Paladin - She is descended from Iomadae's mortal herald, who gained angelic blood (half-celestial template) when Iomadae ascended. As a small child her village in Mendev was overrun and razed by demons, forces of the Storm Lord. She was taken in by her angelic patrons and raised among the angels to become their mortal herald on Golarion.

Aasimar Cleric - She was orphaned on the streets of Absalom and cast out from the very society that she wished to help. She died alone on the streets of the City at the Center of the World. In her death she was taken by angels and given special knowledge of the tasks that lay before her. It is her destiny to close the Wolrdwound and reclaim Golarion form the demonic hordes. She was granted life anew in the wilds of Mendev, with knowledge and power of her great destiny.

Tiefling Barbarian and Tiefling Sorcerer - These two brothers are the sole remaining heirs to the throne of Sarkoris. When the Storm Lord arrived he sought to utterly corrupt the line of kings by slaughtering and breeding into the bloodline. He kept his unholy progeny in a demonic spawning pit as playthings for concubines and bloodsport entertainment. They managed to escape Iz and their evil progenitor and fled into the wilds of the Worldwound with the desire to slay the Storm Lord and re-establish the line of Kings.

The four have found their way to the city of Kenabres and despite the prejudice arrayed against them, have gained the attention of the enigmatic leader Trendelev, who senses great things in them.

The idea was to ratchet up character backstories a notch to make the characters suitably mythic. Seeing what we ended up with I'd say it was a success.

We just ran our first session, which sadly got cut a little short, but so far has been really fun.

Here's our party breakdown:

Tiefling Inquisitor -- My own character, a "preist" of Ragathiel who will mostly be melee. Spells will largely be self buffs, with some debuffing ability via spells, Intimidate and (when applicable) Ancestral Scorn. Stern and stalwart, but with a slight tendency toward defensiveness, lame self-pity and brooding. Took Touched by Divinity and shooting for Hierophant with dual path for some Champion goodies.
I let the others choose their scales first and got the resistance one.

Dwarf Barbarian -- An Invulnerable Rager from that guy in our a group who almost always plays dwarves. If he's built it anywhere near as well as he usually does it should be a monster. He usually plays comic relief in our group but this character seems to be more serious. Taciturn, grumpy and violent. You know, a dwarf. So far works for the campaign. Exposed to Awfulness and he's going Guardian.
He got the levitate scale.

Aasimar Paladin -- Not to sure about this build but I know the player is going for a Sorcadin, so probably only plans on going to Pally 2 or 3. So far played as a humble and very devout type, although too weathered and hard to be a real Goody Two-Shoes. Has hit it off with my Inquisitor and now they're buddies. Think he's planning on specializing in rays, which would be great -- we need more ranged damage. He also took Exposed to Awfulness and will go Archmage/Guardian I believe.
He got the align weapon scale.

Aasimar Bard -- A dex-based, Arcane Duelist rocking an Elven Curve Blade. Big on party buffs, as befits a bard. Also backup-melee focused (I know, I know: Too much smash, not enough pew pew), but less so than the Inquisitor. So far played as rather stuffy and self-righteous, although well-meaning. He grabbed Child of the Crusades and will go Marshal all the way I'm sure -- this player loves him some tactical movement.
He picked up the disguise scale.

Lady Ladile wrote:

We've only had one session so far, but here's our current party:

Duster Winddancer: Elven ranger (Champion or Guardian probably)
Shadoe Winddancer: Elven sorcerer (Archmage)
Shivram: Half-elven rogue (Trickster)
Kayleb: Gnome summoner (Trickster, I think)
Melinda "Pinkie" Sparklegem: Gnome alchemist (Trickster)
Lenneth (me): Half-elven Hedge Witch (Hierophant)

There are a number of factors that will likely make our party very interesting to play in this AP:

The two elves are a brother and sister duo.
The two gnomes are cousins.
Did I mention the elven sorceress and the half-elven rogue are neutral evil?
Our group switched from AD&D 2.0 to Pathfinder so the entire party got dumped into a portal and fell out of the sky into the starting town; makes me wonder how our DM will work out the campaign traits since none of us are from around these parts :P

Due to some in-character conflicts that led to one player asking to switch to a new character that would mesh better with the party, our DM admitted that he probably made a mistake in porting over existing characters instead of making us roll up new ones. He gave everyone the option of keeping their current character or switching, so now the party consists of:

Ziri: Half-elven monk
Sunaki: Sylph monk (Drunken Master)
Kasarra: Tiefling magus (Kensai)
Ameyla (me): Aasimar oracle (Life)
Amnesty: Sylph rogue
Shivram: Half-elven rogue
Yolandria: Human paladin

Despite the only "real" problem player keeping his evil character (Shivram) instead of making a new one, I think this new group will be much more harmonious than the previous one. The DM basically had the old characters portal out (long story) and the new characters recruited to be their replacements for the rest of the business that needs doing.

Silver Crusade

3 people marked this as a favorite.

We're just about finalized I think. Five players now.

We've arranged ourselves so that we might have some interpersonal conflicts, but we'll also be able to pull together quite well. Everyone's on the same page for the kind of game we want, which so far seems like it's going to be the most idealistic AND most horrific campaign some of us have ever played.

As we are now:

Liath Samathran (LG male demonspawn tiefling paladin(redeemer) of Iomedae) and Naella Samathran (LG female demonspawn tiefling cleric of Iomedae)

Twins born of a cursed family line born out of the First Crusade, Liath and Naella endured a horrific childhood and further trials and scars in adulthood. They have found themselves adrift until turning to Kenabres to find their purpose in the world. They seek to redeem their past failures and discover the truth of their origins, though both dread what they might find. Both seek acceptance even as their fears of their own nature grow with their approach to the Worldwound.

Campaign Trait/Mythic Path: Touched by Divinity(Iomedae), Hierophant(Naella) and Guardian/Hierophant(Liath)

Associated Sins: Envy and Lust

Special note: Uncomfortably close.

Travern Kalleros (LG male angelkin aasimar paladin of Iomedae)

Born blessed and raised with ample privilige and even greater expectations, Travern is a man who yearns for a peaceful, normal life even as his own nature pulls him back to the front lines. He's soon going to find himself forced to step up and use his unwanted fame for the sake of others, giving up the life he wants for the one others need from him.

Campaign Trait/Mythic Path: Child of the Crusades, Marshal

Associated Sin: Sloth

Special note: Looks like a bronze David Tennant.

Enyana Wek (NG female Kellid/Mwangi wizard of Desna)

The daughter of a Kellid witch and a Nexian wizard, both veterans and eventaully casualties of the Crusade, Enyana has large shoes to fill. As she attempts to live up to her father's bombastic image and her mother's wisdom, she struggles with interacting with others, her social skills stunted in favor of her studies. She remains haunted by memories of her disastrous attempt to find her missing parents as a child, which she survived only due to the intervention of a mysterious savior.

Campaign Trait/Mythic Path: Riftwarden Orphan/Chance Encounter(blended), Archmage

Associated Sin: Pride

Special note: Lovably infuriating.

Chellaigh the Wolf-Heart (CG female Kellid barbarian of the Green Faith/Pulura/Cernunnos)

Chellaigh was happy and content once, even amidst the troubles her people endured in Mendev. Then her husband and children were taken from her by demons and their cultists. As far as she knows, she was the only survivor after losing herself in a red rage as they performed vile ritualized brain surgery upon her. The demons of the Worldwound took everything from her and in its place they gave her rage and monstrous ferocity. She intends to look every being responsible for her pain in the eye as she eats their hearts.

Campaign Trait/Mythic Path: Stolen Fury/Exposed to Awfulness(blended), Champion

Associated Sin: WRATH

Special note: All of Sarkoris' rage poured into one human.

We are not an emotionally healthy party.

Oooh, you got to play a Redeemer and not be a half-orc. Nice. :)

You better keep a campaign journal of this. :D

Really happy about the redeemer, believe me. I'm excited as hell about this campaign. :)

And there absolutely will be a journal kept here. It won't be able to follow the in-character journal format from the Kingmaker one all the way through though. It'll be more third person novel-like(using collected notes and input from all the players), maybe with some journal entries scattered throughout.

Probably going to have to have some content warnings here and there too, considering the discussions we've had pre-game. Freakin' demons, man. That we were asked to assign sins to our characters only feeds that suspicion. ;)

Some of the loose threads never covered in the Kingmaker journal will be woven into the Wrath journal all subtle-like too. There were consequences from that campaign that'll follow over into this one.

Hot damm, I'm eager to start. :D

All Paladin Party

Yep. We decided to give it a shot. There have been a few sticky spots, but by and large we are absolutely steamrolling the AP.

The Party-

Kreig, Human Champion Paladin of the Holy Light of Gorum.
Giant sword. Spiked armor. Smiles a lot. Glows in the dark.
Kreig is an uncomplicated soul who likes people. He isn't a fan of war, but he loves personal combat. His approach to combat is as uncomplicated as his personality. Hit it really hard.
His boiled-down feat/ability selection is Mythic Power Attack and Mythic Vital Strike combined with Spring Attack.

Gil, Human Champion Shining Knight of Iomedae.
Has a horse and isn't afraid to use it. You wouldn't believe the places he's managed to wedge that poor beast into.
Gil is the paladin's paladin. He's the perfect knight, and is a bit of a stick in the mud, but his heart is in the right place, so nobody really minds. He's taken to wearing the holy symbols of fallen crusaders on his armor as a reminder of those that have fallen in the fight. He's a little melodramatic, but it's a powerful sentiment.
His feat/ability selection is two-tiered. When on his horse, he does the usual Charge feat chain stuff. When off his horse, he charges around like a free running madman, jumping off of things to employ Mythic Death From Above. We recently cast Fly on the horse, which has allowed him to combine both his feat chains in truly absurd, amazing ways.

Braka, Human Hirophant Hospitalar of Sarenrae.
It's the quiet ones you have to look out for.
Braka is the ultimate support character. She has a pole arm and a bow, and healing juice for days. At last count she's carrying two different healing wands and about 20 cure potions. She also collects alchemical gear, and has Use Magic Device all maxed out. She has a seemingly endless bag of tricks in case her main one doesn't work. Luckily, it's a really good trick.
Her main offensive ability is Mythic Alignment Channel combined with Quickened Channel and Extra Channel. She just walks around blowing up.

Randal, Dwarven Guardian Sacred Servant of Torag.
He's what they had in mind when they coined the phrase "meat-shield." He's damn near impossible to kill, and has a knack for getting in the way.
Randal is the team's bodyguard. He's also the guy with all the army-leading skills, and the making things skills. His specialty is being a wrench in other people's gears.
His feat combination has proven incredibly effective. Bodyguard and In Harm's Way combined with Mythic Combat Reflexes and a 15' reach mean that the enemy doesn't get to do much but attack him, and get hit for trying. Most of his Guardian abilities basically amount to "no, actually, you target me.", and his Damage Reduction makes him not care about most of it. If you're lucky enough to drop him below zero, he just hulks out, gaining stat bonuses and DR 15/ epic.

Sooooo, yeah. Four paladins.

Those poor, poor demons...

Also, any chance that we'll get the final fate of that Curse of the Crimson Throne party and of Laori? :)

Absolutely will do, I believe he's planning on it and will ask today to double-check, and yes. Can't promise exact dates, but depending on this Tuesday it'll be this week or next. That thing is way past due. :(

We're looking at starting in February or early March, depending on when the last book hits, so our GM can have enough time to prep everything. I'll get to work on the journal as soon as we wrap up the first session. :)

We're well into the third book, but I figured, better late than never to post about this dysfunctional group!

Louise Vastel: NG Tiefling (Demon-spawn) Sorcerer [arcane] / Archmage
She is good...to a degree. She does care about seeing the demon scourge fade from Sarkoris, mostly because some fiendish vultures (temporarily) killed her infant son. Soon after that, she took the Divine Source path ability, and has a few converts as the Runic Hand. Notably, Arles the ex-paladin of Iomedae and Joran Vhane, ex-cleric of Droskar nad brother to the (now deceased) Staunton. She doesn't trust Atticus at all, and even has a spyglass archon keeping an eye on the guy.

Timeor Fidiorum: LG Tiefling (Kyton-spawn) Cavalier [Order of the Lion] / Marshal
This guy is ruthless. His token? Sauron mounted on a t-rex (how did he even find that picture). He does care about the Crusade as well, but he prefers to intimidate his foes into submission. He cares about his family deeply, so there's that. Excellent commander of armies.

Riqueza Paz: CG Ratfolk Gunslinger [Gulch Gunner] / Trickster
This girl is the friendliest in the group, even with 8 Cha, but she's also...well..the least stable. After scrying on her kidnapped friend, Cynthia, a former PC*, she...lost it. Had to have her memories sequestered in order for her sanity to return. She's good pals with Arueshalae, and taught Nurah how to handle a gun! So she's (for now) the least screwed up of the bunch.

Titus Casimiro: LG Aasimar Monk/Paladin/Champion of Irori / Champion
This guy is honor in a nutshell. 7 Int doesn't hurt that at all. He took on the barbarian chief in single(?) combat, he shows mercy to captured Templars, and even is helping out with healing the sick and similar things. Not very expressive, however...I should shake him up a bit in the future. As to be expected from a paladin, doesn't like Atticus one bit.

Atticus Fellwing: ?? Aasimar Cleric of Asmodeus / Hellknight Signifer / Hierophant
And here we come to the problem kid. Atticus. Took Beyond Morality out of arrogance, and might even take Divine Source. This guy is such a proponent of Law that it's scary. He has executed and humiliated more than one demon-worshiper in the past (Faxon was NOT happy when his ear was cut off). His cohort, Fazij, is spying on the rest of the party now. He answers only to his masters in the Hellknights, and possibly Asmodeus. He doesn't 'worship' the Prince of Darkness per se, so much as accepting his power. But hey! A fragment of Baalzebul's former celestial being can do that, right?

And that's our dysfunctional bunch. Not so much a ragtag group of friends trying to save the world as they are a gathering of powerful people with similar goals.

And in regards to Cynthia...:
As some of you may know, Cynthia was a former PC who temporarily took Atticus' place in book 2. The player and myself both privately agreed that she was doomed at the end of the book. My problem was finding a way to keep her from being rezzy'd. So I had Eustoyriax possess her and greater teleport her away. She is now the plaything of Shamira, due to a long story. This will have ramifications come book 4. Do not judge me for Cynthia's end - like I said, this was agreed upon (sort of) between the player nad myself.

Grand Lodge

I'm currently in an online group that's been doing Wrath of the Righteous for a while. Here is our party make-up

Cazuril - Human Paladin - LG(Commander of the army and wielding Radiance)
-Guardian
Isen - Tiefling Magus - LG
-Champion
Axiel - Aasimar Cleric of Desna - CG
-Hierophant
Liza - Human Sanctified Rogue - CG
-Trickster
Slurk - Tiefling Ranger - CN
-Champion
Simian - Half-Orc Fighter (Brawler) - N (Previously NE)
-Marshal

Yeah I'm the crazy person who played an evil fighter and made him a Marshal. Gonna make a heck of a debuffer intimidating everyone though.

Note: My DM may have already posted here. I didn't look too closely.

Dark Archive

Party so far:

Half-Elf Divine Hunter Paladin of Sarenrae (Champion Path) - Eager to prove to her father that she is worth something to Kyonin and to Golarion, she seeks her destiny by joining the crusaders and fighting the horrors of the abyss (this player has changed their backstory several times, but all generally the same kind of theme)

Pitborn Teifling (Reincarnated Silver Dragon) Warpriest of Iomedae (Guardian Path) - One of Terendelev's children, was slain as a hatchling and reincarnated. The Worldwound's chaotic energies affected the casting, bringing him back as a Teifling.

Dhamphir Cold Iron Warden Inquisitor of Ragathiel (Heirophant or Trickster Path) - From Ustalav, wants to prove that he isn't a monster

Waiting on one or two others, but it's turning out to be an interesting party.

EDIT: Forgot my DM PCs (ish. They're there because I want to play the path as much as I want to run it, but they wont be permanent fixtures)

Valera Wintrish, Shackleborn Paladin of Aroden/Hellknight (Non-Mythic) - Valera is a disgraced noble from the Wintrish line of Chelish nobility. Her family stuck close to revering Aroden until her late teens, when public profession of Asmodean worship was "encouraged" by House Thrune and their proponents. When she spoke out against her father for bowing down to the Lord of Hell, she was sent away and was denounced. Since then, She spent her time before aiding the crusaders of Kenebres in Westcrown during the events of the Council of Theives AP; learning of her Tiefling heritage and becoming a Hellknight of the Order of the Scourge. She still reveres Aroden, and reminds those who scoff at her that not even Pharasma knows Aroden's true fate.

Alaric Kordsson, Kellid Magus (Archmage, in the wings, just in case no-one goes arcane) - Alaric sees himself as a "true" Kellid of Sarkoris. His whole family traces their lineage back to the tribal cheifs long before Sarkoris was an empire, and his father, his father's father, and his grandfather's father all fought in the crusades, ether as crusaders or along side them, and his blood burns for the day that their deaths and sacrifices may be avenged and Sarkoris reclaimed by Kellid hands.

A session away from finishing Book 4, and we've been lucky to keep the same party:

Benedict Tarukinai - Human Polearm Master, Champion (Child of the Crusade)
He's taking the role of the "every man" of the group. Young kid, originally a city watchman of Kenabres. Married with a passel of kids. Despite his mythic status, he sometimes forgets his sheer strength. Avathnar mystifies him, and Aurelios's righteousness has caused some disagreements.
He has finally resigned himself to taking all of the damage.

Avathnar Valermus - Elven Conjuror, Archmage (Riftwarden Orphan)
Avathnar was merely a scholar of the planes until the events of Book One. Now, having found himself thrust into a position of genuine power he uses his arcane might to deal with what he has called "this pesky Worldwound." Considers the entire events of the AP an annoying distraction to his research. Despite that, has developed a personal nemesis in the form of a certain Adept.
Last time he was brought down below 80% HP was Book 2.

Aurelios - Lawbringer Theologian of Destruction, Ragathiel (Exposed to Awfulness)
Has described himself in character as "a conduit of divine wrath." Currently living up to those expectations. Aurelios is an unbending servant of good and law; despite being technically Charismatic, his sheer righteousness makes people uneasy. The driving force of the group. This cleric will not rest until every last creature possessing the demon subtype is sent screaming back into the ever-lasting dark.
Hasn't cast a Cure spell in several months of game time.

Me too. :D

One of the things that has me most eager to start is taht we're all pretty much on the same page on what good and evil mean, so redemption is totally a thing that's going to happen. Finally.

Have no idea how it's going to turn up exactly, but the GM has assured us that it's a huge part of the AP. HELL YES.

Getting twitchy just waiting to start...

Well, as a GM of this AP, I am not going to spoil things for you. :) But you have things to look forward to. :D

I'm really hoping my party gets the chance to do this, but with one evil character in the party and the rest being of the, "Hostile? Better kill 'em, they're evil anyway" type of good, I have my doubts ;_;

No more need be said! I'm feeling really good about this one!

Ouch. I really do feel your pain there. I was stuck with that kind of group early on, and few things kill redemption attempts faster than that.

All I can say is that there ARE like-minded gamers out there, and if you can't find them locally, online venues have a lot to offer. Whichever way you go, best of luck in your campaign! :)

Well, for the most part my group is a pretty good bunch and they're more than happy to give enemies a chance if they surrender, at least. Thanks for the well-wishes and I hope your campaign goes great, too! :)

- Aaasimar/Dwarf Paladin of Torag
- Human Evangelist of Sarenrae
- Human fighter/bard
- Elf Guide ranger
- Elf Wizard

The group is still struggling to reach the surface.

First session is tonight! I'm so excited to by GMing this one. Here's the party as they've told me:

Human Master Summoner -- Riftwarden Orphan
Elven Ranger -- Stolen Fury
Gnome Paladin of Sarenrae -- Touched By Divinity, planning to multi-class for all future levels in Cleric
?? Fighter -- ?? (Or he might change his mind again, considered Magus and Rogue before)

The party is feeling extremely martial (when you factor in the Eidolon/summons). Do you think its going to be difficult for them with the limited arcane spell access?

Scarab Sages

No on the arcane (lots of spell resistance anyways), but realize something funny.

The summoner's eidolon won't be able to go under Drezen in book 2 if the player is Good. The dungeon is protected by an Unhallow, which includes the effects of a circle of protection from Good.

I'm not quite sure that is the case:

Advanced Players Guide wrote:
due to its tie to its summoner, an eidolon can touch and attack creatures warded by protection from evil and similar effects that prevent contact with summoned creatures

Unless there is something more to the Unhallow effect as DM I would say the eidolon isn't effected and would be there.

Scarab Sages

Ah, I forgot about that line. Oh well. :P

Thanks for the comments. The Fighter ended up changing to a Cavalier (mainly for the tactician/teamwork feat aspect -- he's hoping to buff all the summons as well as the paladin/cleric.)

We got through part 1 of chapter 1 last night. Summoner's Eidolon stole the show in combat (as expected). Definitely interested to see how things evolve once the "half caster level" bit starts to slow him down significantly. They are feeling the lack of healing in their party right now, with two party members around 2hp, and

Spoiler:

Both Anevia and Aravashnial at 2hp. They've been unwilling to use any of the potions on them... Horgus has been on a lucky streak, rolling natural 20s on his climb checks both times it came up, plus with lots of assist form the party and inventiveness. Both Aravashial and Horgus are on the edge of storming off, just haven't had a good opportunity.

Current Party Lv 4: I'll go from most normal to strangest.

Ciel: Paladin (Hospitaler, Oath of Charity)
Torrent: Teifling Paladin (Oath of Vengeance)

Now we start getting odd.

Zig Zeon: Aasimar Sorcerer (Updated 3.5 Battle Sorcerer)
Smasho Blugermen: Human Barbarian of Shelyn (Invulnerable Rager) "The Warrior Painter, and the battlefield is his canvas."

And NOW, for the crowning moment of strange characters.

Halon Ten, the Lesser Deity of Poor Planning and Misfortune...:
Former God (Aasimar) Bard.

He is my friends favorite character, a deity who CONSTANTLY looses and regains his godhood. Every time he falls, mortals forget him.

His quote upon waking up in the underground "Oh no, not again."

Haha, love the idea of Halon Ten.

So here's my (surprisingly) functional group:

Dimitri-Human rogue (scout); Resident of Kenabres, works for a group of ,mercenaries (scavengers)called the black lions. His parents were cultists and did bad things to him. He's also an expert on the history and community of Kenabres. He has some anger management problems (planning to multiclass into barbarian), so he reads to keep his cool.

Lawrence Godfrey-Human paladin; born into a lesser noble family, he is honoring the tradition of his ancestors by joining the crusades. He has come to Kenabres in the hope of joining the Everbright crusaders. He's kind of naive and inexperienced but shows a lot of compassion and insight.

Nulek Snowmane-Human? Druid (Menhir savant); A lonely traveler with a mysterious past. He claims to have been led to Kenabres by the spirits of old Sarkoris, the land his ancestors once lived in, which has now become the Worldwound. Kind of quiet and uncomfortable in the city and with other people. He talks to himself and engage in strange rituals to commune with the spirits. Is guided by a powerful spirit known as Pulura, which in reality is an angel and unbeknownst to him, his mother.

Mendez Two-fingers-Human sorcerer(gold dragon bloodline); A young man trying to find out what happened to his real parents to learn more about his magical powers. He has heard rumors of the Riftwardens and has come to Kenabres to seek them out. He dresses in fine clothes and pretends to be of a higher standing than he really is. He is eloquent but rarely seems to know what he is talking about.

Alright, I wanted to wait until we finished Book 1 so that hopefully everything is pretty solid as far as party make-up. We play 25-point buy and we also have a house-rule where every players gets 2 "RP" skills points per level (these points MUST be spent on any of the following: Craft, Knowledge, Perform, Profession)

Maqej- LG Ifirit Paladin of Sarenrae 6/Guardian 1: This is an interesting Paladin for me because eventually he actually plans on dual-wielding scimitars. While it might not be optimal, it does seem like fun and his DPR is gonna go through the roof when he smites somebody evil. As the GM, I am considering allowing him to dip into 3.5 rules with Oversized Two-Weapon Fighting, because honestly, if he is just gonna use scimitars as planned, I don't think it would be too obscene. He has the Exposed to Awfulness trait.

Raylin Inarae- NG Half-elf Rogue 2/Cleric of Sivanah 4/Trickster 1: An interesting take on a cleric. With taking the alternate racial trait, Drow Magic and the Arcane Dabbler trait, this character is actually going to be picking up levels of Arcane Trickster eventually. (Using Darkness as the Second Level Arcane spell for entry requirement and Arcane Dabbler granting Mage Hand, he can use the Arcane Trickster levels to grant continued access to his Cleric casting capabilities. This character has the Chance Encounter trait.

Reginald Ximenez Amadeus Victor von Sturgeonbergermanksi IV "Chuck"- NG Human Inquisitor of Arshea 6/Marshal 1: First off, part of the name & even the characters personality was derived from this Monty Python skit.He is a Child of the Crusade. Mechanically speaking, he is focusing on specializing in the Heavy Repeating Crossbow which is cool when you imagine it.

Malefic - LN Tiefling Cleric of Asmodeus 1/Wizard(Diviner) 2/Mystic Theurge 2/Hellknight Signifier 1/Archmage 1- This is my most experienced player and we tend to discuss Pathfinder outside of our regular games a lot so I felt safe allowing him to have a really complicated build like this. His Signifier caster levels are going towards Wizard, so honestly his Cleric levels are almost more for flavor than anything else at least until later levels. I am making him choose Godclaw as his Order as that is probably the most prevalent Order of Hellknights in the area.

This is our current group over at the GitPg forum.

Character|Race|Class|Role|Brief Description
Rada Markov |Tiefling|Inquisitor|Skilled Basher|Speaks Softly, Carries a Big Stick
Delilah | Halfling | Fighter/Rogue |Precision Shooting|Opportunistic Epic Survivor

Almaluxia | Its Complicated | Wizard |Blaster|Highly intelligent, emotionally immature walking fireball dispenser
Julia|Human|Sorcerer|Debuff and Deadfolk|A Woman,but more so
Alandra Medrano | Aasimar |Oracle |Healing and Divine Beating|OCD and Aberrant

Only level 2, but enjoying things greatly

Just finished first chapter of the first book and the group works really well so far (even though I might need to explain de concept of playing a paladin of Iomedae to my player ;))

Markus - Human Paladin of Iomedae (mythic path guardian)
Aballon - Aasimar Ranger (mythic path champion)
Alyas - Samsaran Priest of Cayden Cailean (wanting to become a mystic theurge further on)(mythic path archmage)
Diaz - Half-Orc Oracle with battle mystery (mythic path champion)

The Exchange

1 person marked this as a favorite.

We had our first session this past weekend. We're playing 1 Saturday a month, for 8-9 hours (I'm still exhausted).

Tellen Dorn; Human Cleric (Evangelist) of Milani [Marshall]
Smoke; Tiefling Ninja/Magus [Trickster]
Sloss; Half-Elf Ranger (Wild Shadow) [Champion]
Johnny Cleric; Human Cleric of Desna [Heirophant]
Aramil; Elf Conjurer (Teleportation) [Archmage]
Aiden; Angel-Blooded Aasimar Paladin of Iomedae [Guardian]

In our first session they made it through Part I & the majority of Part II.

Here are my three PCs. I started them out in a prologue, I drew up to occur before the begining of the AP, to orient them with the area and build up a connection to Kenabres.

Gaheris; Human Slayer [Exposed to Awefulness]
Sergei Molotov; Tiefling Wizard [Riftwarden Orphen]
Selena; Half Elven Samurai [Stolen Fury]

Scheduled to run the game first or second weekend in April. Should tie up the prologue and led into the beginning of the AP.

My 4-player group is at the end of book one, I think. We got a player who's playing PF for the first time, so there's been a LOT of rules-teaching.

Aurora Dawnsong, human oracle of life [burned hands] probably going Hierophant. The daughter of crusaders (half chelaxian and half sarkorian), was handed the Divine Fire of Sarenrae when very young. A great support, she heals well and has a few buffs, but hasn't got many tricks up her sleeve.

Iulius "Fiendflayer", tiefling magus (bladebound, fiend flayer) going Archmage. Interesting character - his ancestry makes him extra violent and bloodthirsty, and he uses his somewhat misguided faith in Iomedae to temper his urges. Kind of like a dervish-dancing Dexter.

Mayer Maeroth, human rogue (scout) going trickster. This is the new player's character, and despite all the rogue hate he's been having a LOT of fun. He's the party's foremost damage dealer, simply using common simple weapons two-handed (this adventure has a LOT of maces) combined with fairly reliable sneak attacks (due to the melee-heavy presence in the group).

Valerya Godfrey, aasimar (angel-blooded) swashbuckler/paladin. Left at the altar of an Iomedean church, Valerya was raised to be a chaste, faithful warrior-saint. Breaking under the heavy expectations forced upon her, she ran away with a duelist for hire and spent a couple of years touring Brevoy as a mercenary. Although foul-mouthed, immodest and somewhat lascivious, she was finally accepted by Iomedae as her own person when finding a legendary sword during the adventure and began progressing as paladin.

Rocco Desnason, a human fighter (stolen fury) who was part of the Kenabras city guard

Harry Whodunnit, a human illusionist with a knack for sneaky backstabbyness (riftwarden orphan)

Ordun Rednose, a dwarven druid chasing the thief of his father's recipe for mede (touched by divinity)

Eliza, a half elf cleric of Sarenrae (exposed to awfullness)

and our paladin, All Ah Adinn, a human child of the crusades

guided into their respective dooms by me.

I've got the following bunch. Each has the trait connected to their mythic path.

Wulfric, LG Male Human Iomedaen Paladin/Champion and member of the Eagle Watch, or what's left of it. Was his first day on the job when the AP starts.

Valtyra, NG Female Aasimer Sarenrae Iconoclast Inquisitor/Champion. No background.

Caladur, Male CN Elf Wizard/Archmage. From Kyonin, no other background.

Catspin, Male NG Human Summoner/Archmage, lost his fiance to demons. Eidolon looks like an angelic version of her. (Unbeknownst to the character, it IS her. For some reason I've yet to decide, was left up to me)

Sid Ark, N Male Oread Pharasmaen Cleric/Guardian. No background.

We just started the AP last Friday and so far everything is going fairly well. Though I have been slowly teaching the rogue the value of precaution while scouting ahead.

For Example:
He got attacked by the cave viper, because he didn't tell me he was looking around. That and he's getting tired of me saying "It appears to be clear ahead" or "It doesn't seem to be trapped."

Alwe Nailo - Male Elven Magus
Bryan Shane - Male Tielfing (Rakasha) Cavalier
Otmar Cinturato - Male Aasimar Inquistor (Iomedae)
Korina Foswright - Female Human Cleric (Sarenrae)
Cassius - Male Human Paladin (Iomedae)
Phil - Male Half-Orc Rogue

Dark Archive

These are the characters that I am DMing for.

Female Aasimar-Divine Channeler/Priest/Vitalist
Male Aasimar-Talented Fighter/Talented Monk/Psychic Warrior
Male Dwarf-Armiger/Cleric/Talented Fighter
