So a shadowbard Duettist Sound Striker combo eh?

"But you'll run out of bardic performance rounds!" is probably not an effective threat to keep somebody from reaching for Real Ultimate Power. It is like telling a double-barreled Pistolero, "You'll shoot your eye out!" (which I guess should really be for the Musket Master, but anyhow...)

I wouldn't call it Real Ultimate Power. Lots of builds can outblast this one - Magi, Sorcerer, Alchemist, even a Drunken Master Qinggong with the right build.

Personally I'd rather be a Magician than a Duettist - what you lose on DPR, you far outweigh on utility.

True...but some people just want to play the violin.

I read that in Alfred/Bane's voice for some reason.

Love her! But any Sound Striker can do that, you don't need Duettist :)

Also I thought of this.

@Psyren - You might have taken the phrase Real Ultimate Power more seriously than it was intended if you’re not familiar with the linked site. I thought it was pretty funny when I first ran across it “back in the day” though it can’t compete with the links you and Tels posted (plus the goofy music seems to have disappeared). As an aside, Stephen Chow also made an older (and perhaps sillier) movie called “Hail the Judge” where his character literally assaults people with profanity and insults (complete with cartoon symbols shooting out of his mouth)

@Tels - I’ll have to check out more of Lindsey’s music. That video seems very appropriate to the Sound Striker, but the way she was kicking the bad guys also made me think of an old idea I had for a Bard who fights with Improved Unarmed Strike while playing an instrument. The main problem with it has always been finding any sort of benefit which would be gained by actually playing an instrument instead of just singing.

Perhaps an instrument with a bayonet? Just brainstorming. I happen to like the Totem Spear from the Varisia Players Companion, but it does cost an Exotic Wpn Prof feat.

The Totem Spear sounds like a fun thematic gimmick, but it doesn't look like it provides any actual bonus to the Bard's casting or performances. There used to be masterwork instruments in 3.5 which had at least marginal benefits. I'm not sure if Pathfinder has anything similar.

What I'm thinking of is basically giving up traditional handheld weapons and the opportunity to use a shield for some other benefits. Maybe it could cost a feat. Maybe it could be an archetype. Maybe it is just silly and nobody else would be interested. Perhaps I'll start a separate thread on it...
