Radiant Oath

It's fine how is friday looking for you?

Pathfinder Adventure, Rulebook Subscriber

Not sure. My sister got to come in this weekend. I haven't seen her since August. Depends on how work goes tomorrow too.

I had about two concepts though I was debating, possibly a third.

Voodoo/Hoodoo practicioner, thinking of using the True Believer for this one

Or making some sort of Were-form character.

Possibly debated about doing something related to the fey, maybe a knight of the lesser court but I'm not sure about that one.

Radiant Oath

Well for me i have a voodoo character or a Champaign Of God character and If our primary foe was the Autumn court being the knight of the spring court could be fun!

Pathfinder Adventure, Rulebook Subscriber

I think I like the idea of being the Knight of the Spring Court. That could be tons of fun.

Oh and while i'm thinking of it Prince Suleyman makes me think White Court

Radiant Oath

I get the bad feeling that this is dying

Pathfinder Adventure, Rulebook Subscriber

Sorry, my sis is in and I hadn't seen her since mid august. I'm just having a busy week this week. Next week looks better for me.

Radiant Oath

I'm just wondering were the other people are.

I'm still here! I have been working on some stuff, but overall just been really busy. I plan to have a few things posted up tomorrow (hopefully) but I will probably be scarce for at least a few days as I have IRL crap I am dealing with. I hope it doesn't die off, I've been waiting to play this for e-v-e-r! :-)

Radiant Oath

So do we know what people in the city we want to be important?

Spent the whole weekend sick in bed. Better now so I'll start adding my stuff to the site tomorrow.

Radiant Oath

What are you playing?

Wondering if it's too late to jump on the bandwagon before it starts, I was talking to my friends about this game and he had the book. If there would be a spot available I would love the opportunity.

I've got a lot of different concepts in my head I'd love to play (pure mortal cat burglar, Einherjaren-like champion of a non-Odin norse god, a member of the Wild Hunt that shifts into a Charhound or Huntsman, a Cajun minor practitioner, a Voodoo/Hoodoo practitioner, Emissary of one of the Loa like Baron Samedi etc...).

I'm kinda letting it depend on what characters you all pick, so I can take something that compliments them. :)
(although I'd prefer to play someone that's a bit out-of-town to avoid failing to adopt a Cajun accent)

A overview of preferences so far (correct me if I'm wrong):

1) deadspeak: Pure Mortal with Demon Weapon (probably comes down to Emissary of Power)
2) Kana: Voodoo/Hoodoo practitioner (probably True Believer), Were-form or Knight of the Spring Court
3) icewhisp: Voodoo character, Champion of God or Knight of the Spring Court

Pathfinder Adventure, Rulebook Subscriber

Okay, I should be less busy, though I'm on here at work so i'll be in and out while here.

I'm leaning most towards either a Knight of the Spring Court, or a Were-form character. I'll probably have a touch of voodoo with my concept. Since voodoo is more a religious than magic. Voodoo is more nature/spirit based (so i could easily tie it to the fey if i do so, or spirits as a were) while Hoodoo uses catholic saints. (so I've narrowed it down to two now lol though it's more taking elements from one to the other two)

Things we need to finish up city-wise:

1. Faces of the city

2. Faces of Themes and Threats

3. Faces of Locations

4. The Balance of Power

5. Finish Locations up

I think that's everything?

I know there was talk of Rumplestiltskin being in charge of the 'Goblin Market' And if we are having the Mistress of the Mississippi we should have at least one person there.

We need to figure out the mundane mortals and things too. I don't think we've done much with that yet. Perhaps there should be some gangs or something around? Perhaps there is a mortal turf war going on?

Radiant Oath

I'm not planning on playing a knight of the spring court that was only a idea i had for kana.

Pathfinder Adventure, Rulebook Subscriber

XD well im between that and the were right now. I spent a little time looking into how i would build my character but nothing solid yet.

Radiant Oath

Here's some people i liked

D'shawn- He the the crime boss of a one side of a supernatural gang war

Aspect: Ghoul Gang Lord

Gredel- He is a necromancer living out in the swamps and leader of the gang boss

Aspect: All dead shall rise

Lindsey Kirink - a psychic cursed with Cassandra's tears

Aspect: Seer of the strangest futures

Ed Bowers P.D. - Only supernatural person in the police he can see the history of objects at a touch

Aspect: Cursed with Psychometry

Rumplestiltskin - Resident leader of the goblin market

Aspect: Pending

Andy - Bar keep of the Mistress of the Mississippi

Aspect: Sounds advise/ Knows when to be quite

Shaniqua: an in-the-know hairdresser who was a Changeling that Chose humanity. The only professional hairdresser many supernaturally-savvy folk will visit because she burns the hair in front of the clients (which means that her salon stinks immensely most of the time). She is a thirty-ish African-American woman with strangely-colored eyes, an extravagant hairdo and very fashionable clothing, all of which are rather marred by the slight smell of burnt hair she can't seem to wash off. She is well-trained in self defense and carries a steel collapsible baton whose paint has been filed off (to expose the bare metal that hurts Fey). Her mother was a Faerie from the Summer Court and the two do not have a good relationship.

Aspect: the Hairdresser to the Occult

Le Petit Bonhomme Janvier: Le Petit Bonhomme Janvier (“Little Man January”) is a figure in the folklore of Louisiana Cajun culture. He is said to pass on New Year’s Day and place baubles, fruit, candy or other special gifts in the shoes of little children who had been obedient all year. He left something foul in the shoes of children who had been bad. Some legends hold that he also rewarded and punished adults in the same way. (actual folkloric figure!)
Probably some sort of Fey.

Aspect: Cajun Santa Clone

Bea Bellevenue: a middle-aged woman who owns Bea's Bayou Bar. Unknown to most, she is a lycantrope who leads a gang of alligator-hunting, smuggling and cannibalistic lycantropes known as Bea's Bloodhounds. Bea is a woman in her late forties with an athletic, well-muscled build and a face that could once be called handsome, before years of scars, worry-lines and weathering. Her smile is a bit too wide and her eyes show a bit too much white for comfort. She's always dressed in a sleeveless leather jacket with a heavy chain and a large knife on her belt.

Aspect: Alpha Butch in the Bayou
(yeah... let's just say that "Butch" is an alternative for the original word that got autocensored out by the message boards)

Frank Anderson: a guide and hunter in the swamps near New Orleans. He hunts alligators in the yearly one-month-long alligator hunting season and spends the rest of the year renting out air-boats, selling or renting hunting equipment, giving tours, guiding excursions and hunters and assisting the authorities in searching for missing persons in the swamps. Older middle-aged fellow who is well-built and quite muscled. He's rather attractive in an over-the-top manly way, despite his age and many scars. Frank seems rather laid back and almost lazy but turns into a complete adrenalin junkie during alligator season or when faced with other vicious predators. He's been starting to get wind of the supernatural over the years of seeing strange things in the swamps. He holds his distance from Bea and her boys.

Aspect: Silver Swamp Fox

Madame Viride: a Cajun Traiteuse (traitur is male and traiteuse is female), which is a healer in Cajun culture that is an important part of Cajun religion. The traiteur is a very old tradition that is dying out. Traditionally, the rituals are passed down to the opposite gender (male to female to male etc…). Traiteurs use laying on of hands and a combination of Catholic prayers and medicinal remedies to treat a variety of ailments. Examples include earaches, toothaches, warts, tumors, angina and bleeding. Some of the herbal remedies begin to cross over into certain types of voodoo and white magic, which some Roman Catholics are uncomfortable with. Traiteurs consider their abilities a gift from God and they must be asked to perform treatment; they will not offer them outright unless the need is great. Traiteurs refuse to accept payment of any kind and may not ask for it, although it is acceptable to accept gifts for treating a person. In contrast with Louisiana Voodoo, most traiteurs are careful not to transgress the teachings of the Catholic Church. [end of IRL info]
The traiteurs are a tradition of practitioners that have found a way to use their magic without subverting their Catholic faith. Maybe their Cajun ancestors originally learned their skills from native shamans and/or witches but later attributed it to Christianity.

Aspect: Wise Crone Hedge-Witch

(sorry for the info-dump on the last one, had that prepared for a while and thought this was a nice excuse to introduce Traiteurs)

Radiant Oath

Okay i'm going with yours mine are only bare bones at the moment

Malcolm Everett, a.k.a. Mal: owner of "Mal's Wares", or "Malware", an electronics shop and service center. He sells, services and designs illegal electronic devices, computer hardware and software and much more. He's a bit in the know (rather like Butters early on in the Dresden Files) after a few clients asked him to design highly simplified and EMP-proof electronic devices (read: usable by mortal spellcasters). He dresses like a parody punk-rocker, with dyed hair, multiple piercings and tattoos, torn clothing and an incredibly tacky heavy-metal motorcycle jacket. He's an MIT dropout with a bit of a performance-drug history.

Aspect: Black Market Wizzkid

Isabella Duveau, a.k.a. Belladonna: owner of "Belladonna's Bad Mojo's", a shop for Voodoo, Hoodoo, Wiccan and other ritualistic supplies. Isabella is a rather attractive, thirty-something year-old woman whose clothing has a bit of a post-goth vibe. She was a practitioner whose talent was just a bit short of White Council standards. Her apprenticeship within the White Council was unceremoniously ended when her mentor judged her talent too weak after a year of training. Dumped back into the normal world, too magically inclined to fit in with mundane mortals but too weak to safely operate within the supernatural world, she didn't feel she belonged anywhere. Eventually she became a small-time practitioner with a small network of other practitioners. She collects and sells supplies for magical rituals, both fake (for mundanes) and real (for non-mundanes). Isabella bears a grudge towards the White Council but has a soft spot for the current younger rebellious generation of WC Wizards (the ones inspired by Harry Dresden). Nevertheless, she cooperates with the Grey Wardens in tracking down black magic users trough their purchases and her network (although she mostly cooperates with the Wardens to alleviate their suspicion of her).

Aspect: White Council Reject Occult Supplier

Wonder how well a Vodouisants turned Knight of the Spring Court would work out. Thinking about having the ability to see things (aka Ghost Sight, The Sight) and possibly Cassandra's tears would work with that.

Been playing with more serious character creation today. Just thinking of all the shenanigans i can get into lol

Radiant Oath

Dresden is great for shenanigans! Also i feel like there should really only be one voodoo character but that's just me. Also a big thing for your character to think about is what he/she does in her/his down time.

Pathfinder Adventure, Rulebook Subscriber

Well i was going more the spirituality aspect of the voodoo. It's more fluff and a reason for why she has certain things, but i can take it different with how i'm thinking of building this. I could easily go more she's a medium or something similar that got pulled into the spring court.

Radiant Oath

That is cool. because i'm going more the magical side of voodoo

Pathfinder Adventure, Rulebook Subscriber

Pretty much my plan is she sees dead people and gets future visions as far as Voodoo went, so i can adapt it either way. I am going Knight of the Spring Court. Thinking her Trouble Aspect is 'They Call Me Crazy' because she talks to the dead and sees visions.

Sorry, been on vacation the past week (Viva Las Vegas), so I didn't check on this. I can still do some research on the city. It will take a little while though to get up to speed as I'm not that familiar with the place on more than a superficial level.

Pathfinder Adventure, Rulebook Subscriber

Creating Aspects is fun ^^ I hope the ones I'm coming up with for me are pretty good. Might mess some with my high concept. Trying to decide if she has some sort of sword of power. I need to figure out story stuff too.

Hey all, sorry I've been out of touch for almost a full week.

It looks like I wont be available to play, let alone GM. Work's getting much more intense for the next few months.

Sorry about this. Good luck getting your game going :D

Pathfinder Adventure, Rulebook Subscriber

So... looks like we are without a GM now?

Radiant Oath

I can still GM if required

Pathfinder Adventure, Rulebook Subscriber

I just know you had wanted to play instead of GM this time.

EDIT: Which can you help me with skills at some point? I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around them.

Radiant Oath

Sure message me what you're confused on.

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

Just realized, the OPs search for a game spawned one, but now he's AWOL.

Pathfinder Adventure, Rulebook Subscriber

Yep.

Even if he's gone I still fully intend to play.

Haha, typical :P

Pathfinder Adventure, Rulebook Subscriber

Can we get a count of who all is still in for playing Dresden Files? It's been silent for several days and I'd still really like to play.

I'm in, have a character idea (Scion most likely), and an idea for a main organized crime bad guy for NO.

When I do a touch more research I'll flesh it out. He's a mob boss who keep his respectable front as a Jazz musician.

Radiant Oath

I'm gming i think

Wow, this really took off when I was gone.

I want to apologize for starting the thread and then disappearing. My personal life exploded the past few weeks. I'm buying the house I'm renting, dealing with an IRS audit, and getting divorced simultaneously. It's a long story. In the chaos, this thread slipped my mind.

If there is still room, I would like to join! I've read all the books but know nothing about the Dresden Files RPG or the FATE system. I would need help making a character. I have a few ideas in mind, but I don't know how to format them.

Pathfinder Adventure, Rulebook Subscriber

Life likes to take over. That's its favorite pastime.

Radiant Oath

Darth I like to think i'm the resident know how guy on fate and dresden files rpg you can message me any questions.

Hi. I am looking for people to play dfrpg with. I recently came across it and think it's awesome, since I am a long time fan of the books. It would be my first time playing so please bear with me, but I learn fast.

Just got the idea to look for a DFRPG group online since I can't seen to find one in my area and came upon this thread. Is there still room in the group? I'm very experienced and knowledgeable about the Dresden Files books, but a novice with the RPG. I work nights so I sleep during the day, thus making my availability mostly between 6pm and 8am Pacific. Let me know if there's still room in the group and when we're planning on meeting. Thanks!

What kind of dice does the FATE system use?

Fate dice. They are six sided dice with two sides marked with plusses, two blank sides, and two sides marked with negatives. Thus rolling 5 fate dice would give you a total somewhere between -5 and +5, and show you the degree of variation any particular action might have from your over all level of skill or proficiency at that task.

Is there a way to use Fate dice with the build in dice roller on the Paizo boards?

I think rolling 5d3-10 will give you the exact same range, results, and odds of each particular outcome. I don't know if there is any standard convention for Dresden games already on these forums.

5d3 - 10 ⇒ (2, 3, 2, 1, 2) - 10 = 0
