This question came up in a discussion with my GM, so I thought I would pose it here. Assume that the settlement has an Academy and a Luxury Shop. If our kingdom wants to upgrade the Luxury Shop into a Magic Shop, how would you apply the reductions?

1. Apply the half-price discount from the Academy, then pay the difference for the upgrade.
2. Apply the reduction for the upgrade, then apply the half-price discount for the Academy.
3. Apply only one, either the discount or the upgrade reduction.

My GM is of the opinion that it's option 1, which I'm perfectly content to abide by since it's the most advantageous reading. I'm just curious as to how others would handle it. It doesn't appear to be explicitly spelled out in the rules.

4. Apply only the upgrade reduction.

The Discount applies to building new buildings, but an upgrade is a conversion of an existing building.

Dalias has it right.

Okay Sorry if this has been answered but I have searched for an hour with no results.

Say you build and Academy and then build a Caster Tower at a discount. Can I still build a Library at a discount? I know I cant do 2 libraries but since it is a different type of building is it different?

Shadow Lodge

You have a list of buildings with which to apply a discount. Only the first building you build from that list has the discount applied to it.
