Statistics are like garden gnomes, no matter how often you toss them over the fence, they always find their way back.

Well sometimes they are more like parasprites, but thankfully that is just sometimes.

:)

Parachuting Fey! awesome!

Without knowing very much at all about you or your situation, I can almost guarantee that you don't actually know statistics in anything resembling a proficient capacity. It takes serious study to be able to successfully conceptualize (and, far more importantly, internalize) an understanding of statistics.

For example, something as fundamental to all of statistics as confidence intervals is actually a very subtle concept that many people who complete a full course in statistics still don't truly understand, and its importance is such that even a minor misunderstanding of what confidence intervals represent can result in a critical misunderstanding of what a given statistic actually means.

I agree with you 100%. It's just that i can't spend a whole semester listening to something i will, most probably, never use in my life. If it becomes important later on, i can pick it up again.

College courses are (at worthwhile schools, and with some exceptions) more about teaching you how to think than about what to think. A good statistics class is a crash course in critical thought, which is an absolutely essential skill. If college is about spending four years assembling a personal, mental toolbox that you will be able to open up and find the correct set of tools to apply to whatever situation you find yourself in, graduating without a really robust set of critical thinking skills is like having a toolbox without a wrench in it.

"I'll never use it in my life," doesn't apply to college very often.

Ok, maybe i need to clarify, i already took statistics once before (as this is my second try at college). I don't wanna take them again (and my previous ones are not acknowledged). I have an understanding of how they work, but not of the nuances. And I'm good that way. I really hope that i will not have to use them when i get a proper job.

If you have already taken a course in statistics, you probably know enough that you do not receive ANY stat, figure or other number provided by anyone at face value and true as gospel.

THAT is the critical gift that education in statistics can give you (and also an inkling that statistics and polls are a vastly complex subject under a deceptively simple appearance).

You do not need much more that this if you do not plan to work with statistics.
