So working on a 2 handed weapon ogre ranger as an encounter for one of my parties and I'm running into a problem. After managing to spend his cash on the appropriate thematic armor I'm stuck with about 750 gp left over, not enough to buy anything else to protect him but not any money I just want to have sitting around in a horde somewhere. Now my question is can anyone think of any good protection items I could pick up to help fill that gap?
A wand?
A 1st level wand (CL 1) is 750.
Possible spells are: Anticipate Peril, Aspect of the Falcon, Entangle, Hunter's Howl, Leaden Blades, Longstrider, Resist Energy, Summon Nature's Ally 1, and Unbreakable Heart
None of these raise AC, but they provide useful bonuses to Perception, Initiative, Energy Resistance, Saves, Speed, and Damage.

Damn all of those are pretty good ideas. Will have to save them for later, might have his kids use them or something since I've just figured out what he's going to use and don't think the magic suspicious ranger is going to have one of em.

your other option is to break the recommended wealth by a little bit and give him a cloak of resistance +1 or a ring of protection +1
Yeah I ended up just taking what money was left and giving him +1 armor since in the end I was floating at around 900 gp left over. If I have enough stuff left over from encounter gold I might give him a ring.
