Gonna be an interesting season I think.
I can kind of get where Daisy is coming from right now. There was an interview with the actress that touched on it really nicely.
After she got freed from Hive and then ran into him again, she caved. She wanted back into the "Hive Mind" She only ended up fighting him when it became clear she couldn't rejoin him. She dosen't trust herself to be in the group anymore. She knows what she did when Hive had her and she knows she was willing to go back to it. She is feeling a ton of guilt right now for all of it.
Enter Ghost Rider
What dose the Ghost Rider do to the guilty?
Plus I just gotta see the moment Mack sees the Rider, and the Car.

Interesting.....
Ghost Rider was...a bit more murderous. Still, I think they pulled off the look well enough. And the fear. The way there playing it, though, Robbie and GR don't have much difference between them. It's like the later times of Danny Ketch GR, when Danny had embraced it and even begun to enjoy it. I'd still prefer the bike to the car.
I loved some of the inter-agent interaction, especially between Mack and Coulson, then Mack and Yo-Yo. Speaking of...Yo-Yo seemed far more comfortable with herself, her powers, and the spy world. It was a nice development to see. I've kind of grown to like her character.
I hope they don't overuse the Watchdogs. If I recall correctly, in the comics they were originally one of the groups Red Skull funded and used to stir some shit up. Same with the Scourge of the Underworld, whom I would love to see show up here.

Is it just me, or did they not reveal the new Director of SHIELD in this episode?
My just-crazy-enough-that-it-might-be-true prediction is:
Yes, I know the movie and TV MCU rarely mixes, Tony doesn't know that Coulson lives, and RDJ is crazy-expensive. However, my thinking is as follows:
1. This version of SHIELD has some crazy tech upgrades versus previous seasons. A large airplane that can stay aloft for weeks without resupplying is Stark-level tech.
2. There was a brief mention of cute acronyms. We know Stark likes acronyms (JARVIS, JOCASTA, etc.).
3. A comment was made about how the new director didn't like the way things were run under the government. Despite his support for the Siclovia accords for most of Civil War, Stark has been known to be generally distrustful of government control.
4. This version of SHIELD appears to be better funded than any time since Season 1. At least there are a lot more agents running around. If government control and support is limited, who else could bankroll it besides the richest guy in the world?
5. This one is an indirect inference, but Tony tends to compensate for past failures by performing a grand act of atonement. Becoming SHIELD director could be his way of atoning for Civil War.
I know that this conjecture is just that, and realistically there is no way they are bringing in RDJ for a cameo, but why keep the identity a mystery if the reveal isn't going to be shocking?

Don't get too attached to this theory...they already announcing the casting of the new director, and if I recall correctly he is played by the same actor who was the dad in Terra Nova.

I still say it's Jim Hammond in disguise. :P
That or one of the Squadron.

Interesting.....

Yeah... Still disappointed that it's not Ketch or Blaze, but it looks interesting to say the least. Not 100% sure about the skull head, but it looks a LOT better then the comic version of Reye's mask/helmet/thing...
It'll be interesting if they are going to keep in villain mode or make him more a team player... Curious where this season is going to go.
Phantom,
I agree that Reyes isn't my favorite Ghost Rider, but I have strong hopes for this season.
When it was just Skye as a random person I was unenthusiastic. Now that's she Daisy Freaking Johnson? Pretty rad to me. Coulson back in the field and out from behind the desk is also a good thing.
Meh, The Daisy reveal annoyed me too. Daisy Johnson isn't a comic character I ever liked, so shoe-horning her in here... left me pretty cold.
I'm torn now with her out on her own. On the one hand, I don't like her around the team bossing everyone around like she DOESN"T have the least seniority in the entire SHIELD orginaztion... (Seriously, She was given her badge during the Winter Soldier crossover...)
But I'm a little concerned that splitting the team up so much, is going to result in less screen time for everyone.... That's not great either. I'd have rather Someone... (daisy, may) quit the show and come back for special episodes... rather then run 3-4 plots in each episode with only about 10 minutes total for each...

Holy f$+!balls!
Even more important....
Did mine ears deceive me, or did ghost chick namedrop the f#@&ing Darkhold?!? That's some serious black magic mojo there, the kind you usually find mentioned alongside names such as Doctor Strange, Dracula, Varnae, and Cthon. Which is cool. They've been linking each season of the series with a Marvel movie, and now it seems this season (or at least the first half) will be inextricably linked with Doctor Strange.
I also noticed that Daisy mentioned Robbie's unlce during her interogation. I really wish they'd have left him out, but it seems they're going that route with GR's source of power.
Either way, this season is really ensnaring my interest.

OK, Jeffrey Mace could be an interesting choice. I still think Gyrich as a hostile Director rather than Mace as a friendly but divisive Director would have been better given the MASSIVE bunch of sub-plots they are driving out this season, but I'm still intrigued and enjoying what I am seeing.
Thomas Seitz |
Aber,
Your ears didn't deceive you. They straight up said "The Darkhold."
That means some of BADDEST most evil crap this side of the Necronomicon is coming to Agents. IF it shows up. If not, Damn if Strange doesn't get messed up by Kaedicus probably using it. Which means...CTHON!
I dunno if his uncle is where his powers are derived, but it might seem that if the mutherfing Darkhold is involved...shizzle just go supernaturally real.

As a follow-up....
Kind of the same with the supernatural stuff. They went from zero to HOLY SHIT in 2 episodes. I hope they don't overdo it.
I just hope they take some time and give us a few nice spy stories. They could take a lesson from both Winter Soldier and Civil War, which gave some great political/spy/pyschological thrills and twists.
Thomas Seitz |
Aber,
I think the Supernatural angle might last for a season or two. Not sure. But I do think the Inhuman angle is pretty much locked into this show.
What I really hope is they don't use a quasi-science speak about what is clearly NOT true physics.
As for the Winter Soldier/Civil War, I think that angle is probably either fizzled (no HYDRA remember?) or slow burn (maybe Secret Empire instead?)
One fan speculated the true villain for this season might be Parker Robbins aka the Hood.

Well I wonder if Robbie is tied to the Darkhold. I hope we might see Victoria Montessi.
The subtitles give him as Jeffrey Mace.
I'd add to my Christmas list... Frank Drake. Him and Linda could cross the 'magi-tech' divide, and provide a foil for Jemma.

Though I am not happy about the sudden limiting factor on Daisy's powers this season.
In fairness, I got the impression it was sorta temporary/a result of overuse. If she'd just give herself time to heal and then not use them quite as often she'd be fine...but her overuse of them is a symptom of the serious self-destruction thing she's doing right now.
Or to put it another way: It's not a power limitation so much as the equivalent of showing a character who isn't sleeping more than three hours a night being physically weak. Yes, there's a problem here, but it's not that the character has a new limitation, it's that they aren't taking basic care of themselves.
Thomas Seitz |
Deadman is right. Daisy is pushing her powers to their limits that her body can stand. It's not an uncommon trope in MC lore. We don't know how much stress her body can handle, considering she's only been Inhuman for like...maybe 2 years? I mean look how long it took Jean Grey to get bad ass levels!
Matthew,
My sense is yes, the Darkhold and thus perhaps Cthon is tied to Robbie/Ghost Rider. But as to whether we'll get Midnight Sons...no idea. I'd like to think so but I'd much rather that be a spin-off thing IE Ghost Rider (Johnny Blaze or Danny Ketch) doing that along with maybe Doctor Strange or hell Doctor Voodoo!
There's still not a clear line about what history Jeffery Mace has in the MCU. I mean it could be new, or it could be even he was part of the All-Winner Squad. Or something like it. I don't think it would be Invaders though.

I caught The Usual Suspects on last night, and noticed the dude who plays Coulson was in it.
I still think the show should cast Mrs. Grey in some part that butts heads with the Son of Coul.

Yeah, that Dirty dancing remake they're working on blew it when they didn't cast the two of them as baby's parents.
I mean talk about no brainer cameo...
Ambrosia Slaad |
I'd rather have Son of Coul be throwing down drinks with the Warriors Three.
He can do that too. I was just thinking Clark Gregg and his real-life wife would likely have good onscreen chemistry. Doesn't even have to be romantic chemistry (it's probably better character development-wise if it isn't), but two or more actors that really click together onscreen can help ease the show over some of the weaker writing/plot moments. Plus, Mrs. Grey is a fun actor to watch.

No, her powers were hurting her then because she was trying to control/stop them but were being directed back at her. She was strong enough in the last two seasons to level forest and destroy buildings now she can barely do a simple blast without hurting herself.
Again, I'm pretty sure this is because she's not taking care of herself. If she'd just take some time to heal properly and not overuse her powers she'd be fine.

Also, didn't she have special gloves made for her that minimize the damage or accelerate her bones healing? If she's not wearing them, or they're not working properly and in need of a tune-up, that could explain things.
