WotR obituaries--mythic heros brought low

Wrath of the Righteous

101 to 145 of 145 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

Name: Kairon
Race: Tiefling
Classes/levels: Paladin 18/Hierophant (dual path champion) 9
Adventure: City of Locusts
Location: Drezen
Catalyst: Carrock's Maul

The Gory Details:

Spoiler:
The Heroes of Drezen came up with a plan to defend the city against the coming forces of the worldwound. After giving orders to their numerous allies, they teleported near a huge force of ulkreth demons lead by Carrock, the corrupted treant from Storasta.

During the fight, Kairon used his Aegis shield and tried to turn Carrock to stone. Fearless, the treant charged and stunned him with a powerful blow from his gargantuan maul. Helpless, the paladin suffered the rest of Carrock's full-attack, including a stamp that drained him of whatever little life he had left on Carrock's next turn.

He was later revived by a mythic breath of life, and got his vengeance by dealing the death blow to the treant with two critical hits.

Note: This is an encounter not included in the adventure.

Name: Demitrius
Race: Half-Elf
Classes/levels: Barbarin 4
Adventure: Worldwound Incursion
Location: Grey Garrison
Catalyst: Dreadnu

The Gory Details:

Spoiler:
Smited and full-attacked poor Demitrius who never stood a chance. The player was in shock, as we haven't had a player death in years. And they thought I hand waived the raising later! Had to show them the book for that. =)

Name: Marcus
Race: Human
Classes/levels: Ranger 6
Adventure: Sword of Valor
Location: Outside Drezen
Catalyst: Dreadnu

The Gory Details:

Spoiler:
This was the handy work of Nurah to break party morale. The group left Drezen after hearing rumors about a halfling named Fenton Blackfoot who may have had something called the Lymerian Discourse. Intrigued, but not willing throw their campaign against Drezen's occupation, they split the party sending Demitrius, Marcus, and Anevia. Not willing to pass up such a chance Nurah saw to it to bring Dreadnu's remains up north, have them animate as a flaming skeleton and have them hound the party. The ruse worked, and as soon as they figured out what was happening morale was shot. Marcus, getting nervous loosed an arrow at Dreadnu from 10' away, not knowing the creatures great reach. Of course Dreadnu crit and knocked the character out, but not killing them! Anevia ran over to heal him, but as she did Demitrius landed the killing blow and the Flaming Skeletal Dreadnu exploded in a shower of sinew and flame, which torched poor Marcus.

Name: Irabeth
Race: Half-Orc
Classes/levels: Paladin 6
Adventure: Sword of Valor
Location: Drezen
Catalyst: Advanced Fiendish Mimic

The Gory Details:

Spoiler:
Not really much to add here. She was under the protection of a Shield Other spell from Galvak, but she got too close to the Mimics and ended up smited for that. She was knocked unconcious, and would've been left alone but Galvak healed her while she was still grappled bringing her up to 4 HP. The mimic then passed his grapple check to do 2d8+32 (rolled 44) damage, and the rest is history.

Adventure: Sword of Valor
Location: The Lost Chapel
Catalyst: A humble ghoul

The Gory Details:

Show:
Despite burning a Hero Point on a reroll for the save, Onura found herself paralyzed in the middle of a huge scrum as ghoulish reinforcements rushed in to defend the defaced chapel. Name: Anja
Race: Elf

Catalyst: a botched perception roll

The Gory Details:

While scouting ahead of the party, Anja terribly botched a perception roll and got all the way across the courtyard from the rest of her party without noticing a lurking vengeful Nabasu. The Nabasu summoned up a crushing four Babaus, two of whom cornered and eviscerated the fragile elf while the rest of the demons fought the party, leading to...

Name: Onura (again)

Adventure: Sword of Valor
Location: The Lost Chapel
Catalyst: Not using their scroll of Restoration

The Gory Details:

In the middle of the same fight that dropped Anja, Onura (still carrying two negative levels from being raised from the dead) was hit with an Enervation by that nasty Nabasu. The die came up 4 on a d4 and down Onura dropped.

Name:Rock Smuggler
Race:Half-elf
Classes/levels:Swashbuckler 7/Trickster 2
Adventure:Sword of Valor
Location:Drezen Fortress, Hall.
Catalyst:Guard patrol
The Gory Details:

Spoiler:
As this campaign is way too easy as written, especially for my 6 PCs group, I took the liberty of rewriting all of Drezen and its denizen. So the group enters the big hall for the first time, and comes across a full contingent of the guard, namely 3 warforged fighters, 2 guntanks and 1 witch, as I considered the warforged to be a good way to exploit the affinity of dwarves with metallurgy.
Anyway, they beat them up, and Rock got hurt pretty badely when the Warforged Captain (the witch) got him with a phantasmal killer. I fudged it, and only brought him to -1 and dying, so I wouldn't kill him with the first damned spell in the session.
They defeat the guards, some of them get away while they heal themselves, stabilize Rock and get him back to 50HP. Then they set to explore the whole South East corner of Drezen, discovering the reserves of food, and suffering Nurah's expose on the history of the Citadel all the while. They also found an empty guard post used recently, and heard footsteps hinting that there might be other guards on patrol.
When they come back to the hall, they stumble on 6 guards, all sporting Glaive-guisarme.
While the group stayed on the defensive, using their witch and druid to harass the guards, Rock decided that sneaking behind a pillar was a great idea! He was spotted, and promptly lacerated with a couple of Power Attacks. Then, he dediced to nonetheless engage one of the guard, successfully pushing him in a corner of the room. The guard counter-attacked, twice. Rock failed his first parry, his second, and he was down.
No one could (or would) pass the guards to help him, but he miraculously regained consciousness...and stayed there, playing dead. The guard, not even noticing he was still alive, Coup de Grace him with a guisarm through the skull.

They'll probably get him raised, and here's hoping he learnt that bravery can kill you. Or, in that case, recklessness.

Name: Merric Vass
Race: Human
Classes/levels: Swashbuckler 3
Adventure: The Worldwound Incursion
Location: Tower of Estrod
Catalyst: A Cultist's Scythe
The Gory Details:

Spoiler:
Merric loved diving headfirst into combat, and apparently saw no reason to change this even after getting hit with -6 dex Bestow Curse by Faxon.
One lucky crit from a cultist's scythe (x4 crit) later, and he was one-shot past his con mod.

Name:Rock Smuggler
Race:Half-elf
Classes/levels:Swashbuckler 8/Trickster 2
Adventure:Sword of Valor
Location: Drezen Fortress, Staunton Vhane's quarter.
Catalyst: Eustoryax
The Gory Details:

Spoiler:

Eustoryax possessed the paladin of the group, and proceeded to pound the sorcerer into the ground. Rock acted heroically, and stabbed the body of the shadow demon. Who immediately let go of the paladin, and full-attacked Rock, criting him twice in the process, and ripping him to shreds. Barely clinging to his life, Rock did not survive the magical conflagrations of fireballs and dragon's breath. This time, the groupe decided not to raise him, burying him with honors.

Name : Theron
Race : Human
Classes/Levels : Ranger (Demonslayer) 7 - Self-Created Mythic-Tier 1
Adventure : Sword of Valor
Location : Drezen
Catalyst : Soltengrebbe
The Gory Details :

Movie plot spoiler:
After using his terrifying breath weapon as a swift action (expanding a use of mythic power) and full-attacking poor Theron, there were nothing left but shreds.
They burned him ,while the Cleric praised his glorious sacrifice :D

Sovereign Court

Name: Deek Blackhammer
Race: dwarf
Classes/levels: Barbarian 9/ Chevelier 3/ Champion 5
Adventure: Demon's Heresy
Location: Drezen
Catalyst: Jerribeth's treasure
The Gory Details: (optional)

Spoiler:
After defeating the forces of the Ivory Sanctum and claiming treasure the Dwarf barbarian decided to take what the group thought was a periapt of wound closure and add enhancement to +2 natural armor to it. After enhancing the apparent amulet he found it was in actuality a necklace of strangulation as it slowly choked the life from him. The party wizard missed identifying the cursed item by 2. After a quick teleport to Nerosyan for a scroll of limited wish, a resurrection, and a restoration the party brought the Champion back to life and then used the Redemption Forge to transform the necklace into it's apparent item.

The mythic glabrezu was not only the origin of the dwarfs stolen fury trait, but nearly killed him on their first meeting. In the final confrontation he succumbed to her corrupted whispers and became dominated (sc8rpi8n_mjd version). He missed the saving throw by 1 and had the option to surge but wanted to earn the righteous medal of spirit. He ended up attacking the Paladin, tripping him using mythic death from Above which led to Jerribeth being able to land all but a single attack in a full attack that dropped the aasimar into unconsciousness.

Name: Cazeron
Race: Pit-born Tiefling
Classes/levels: Paladin 2
Adventure: Worldwound Incursion (Session #2)
Location: "Bad" Mongrelfolk / cultist lair
Catalyst: Courage + low-level + x3 crit weapon = :(

The Gory Details:
Trying to be the hero Paladin. In the lair, 2 glaive-wielding cultists were confronted. They focused-fired on Cazeron. Both hit, one scored a crit, and Cazeron got insta-killed. Apologetically, the DM later told me that they were scripted to focus on Paladins. Bummer dude.

Name: Azzah
Race: Human
Classes/levels: Holy Gun, Evangelist, Gunslinger - lvl 12
Adventure: Demon's Heresy
Location: Ivory Sanctum x 2
Catalyst: Let down by her dice.

Movie plot spoiler:
The party decides not to accept Jerribeth's offer and attack her. She hits the melee Paladin for a scary amount of damage, resulting in the party's tanky monk pretty much running away, leaving the non-defense oriented PCs alone with Jerribeth. Jerribeth proceeds knocking half the party unconscious, Azzah almost kills Jerribeth with a critical hit, but Jerribeth uses a spell to regain most of her hit points and gets in a destruction on Azzah, with Azzah failing her saving throw. The rest of the party fights valiantly for a good few rounds, slowly getting rid of the mirror images and being revived by the cleric as they fall unconscious. Eventually Arueshalae, the melee paladin and the wizard manage to get rid of the mirror images, the monk decides to return (getting in about one hit on Jerribeth) and the melee paladin kills Jerribeth.

After a true resurrection and mopping up the rest of the sanctum, the party encounters Xanthir Vang. Xanthir Vang uses a simulacrum to engage the party and manages to drag out the start of the fight by a few rounds, getting up all of his round based defenses and finally tricks the party into using their most destructive attacks on the simulacrum, before finally hammering the party with damage dealing magic. Xanthir Vang is eventually located and killed (this time by the wizard JUST before teleporting away), but not before the cleric is hit by a Disintegrate, which Azzah uses her holy power to absorb and once again Azzah is naught but dust in the wind. The party teleports to a high level cleric, with the cleric using resurrection on Azzah.

Another one bites the dust -

Name: Anja
Race: Elf
Classes/levels: Slayer 9
Adventure: Sword of Valor
Location: The Ritual Chamber in the Dungeon of Drezen
Catalyst: Charm Monster + lurking Shadows + baffling decisions

The Gory Details:
After getting hit by a Charm Monster from the returning and vengeful succubus, Kiranda, Anja, rather than remain safely in cover trying to bring down her allies with non-lethal damage as her bestest friend Kiranda asked, decided that if she was really trying to end a fight she would do it after charging through 4-5 Shadows so that she could... I don't really understand the goal. Get a better view?

After a half-dozen "are you sure you want to provoke all those opportunity attacks," she ran forward and got murdered by the Shadows.

Sovereign Court

Name: Ëlyn Chillwind
Race: Dhampir
Classes/levels: Oracle (Lore)/ Socerer(sanguine bloodline)/Mystic Theurge 14, Archmage 6
Adventure: The Midnight Isles
Location: Colyphyr, F.The Burning Falls
Catalyst: Investigating the qlippoth runestone

The Gory Details:

As the dhampir daughter of Nethys, mistress of magic and lore sought to understand the alien obelisk she was caressed by the tentacles of the Abyssal Harvester from the mines. Even after negating a critical and forcing a reroll the aberration's slimy tentacles constricted the life from the already anemic hemophiliac (wasting curse, 10 Con, damage plus 3 Con damage dropped her to -22).

After the Winged aasimar Paladin of Iomedae recovered her limp and broken form she was raised from the dead and restored via scrolls. Having drained her god-touched vitality she must recover it from the now mythic (arcane) Abyssal Harvester (she missed a session in Alushinnyra so is 1 mythic trial behind).

Sovereign Court

Name: Deek Blackhammer
Race: dwarf
Classes/levels: Barbarian 12/ Chevelier 3/ Champion 7
Adventure: The Ivory Labyrinth
Location: Blackburgh, Orengofta's Throne Room
Catalyst: Refusing to act as Orengofta's prisoners.
The Gory Details:

Spoiler:
After refusing to follow the mythic nalfeshnee Orengofta's brilliant plan to help them remove the Herald of Iomedae from Baphomet's Inelocutable Prison by infiltrating as prisoners. They came to blows with the Trump-esque demon. After nullifying each PC's strength and exploiting their weaknesses with mythic demonic knowledge. Orengofta survived a full attack and additional vital strike by the dwarf champion. Between two rounds of unholy nimbuses, a full attack, and a greater vital strike the demon killed the barbarian. A mythic breath of life brought him back on the next PC'S turn, but another vital strike (nearly a crit beating heavy fortification but not the Jingasa of the Fortunate Warrior) sent the still raging berserker to his grave. After defeating the other true demons in the mythic nalfeshnee's retinue Deek was resurrected and restored to full power... However his legendary weapon, the greater artifact Titan's Fist was stolen from his corpse by an invisible Coloxus demon.

Name: Roland Brighteye
Race: Angel-Blooded Aasimar
Classes/levels: Warlord 5/Bladelord 2//Champion 1
Adventure: The Sword of Valor
Location: Southbank, Outer Drezen
Catalyst: Die Hard and pissing off a Chimera
The Gory Details:

Spoiler:

The party had been absolutely dominating the entirety of the chapter. We never even did mass battles, partly because they don't work in a play by post, partly because we didn't need to as our wizard could wipe out two hundred tieflings with a handful of fireballs.

So when the revamped Soltengrebbe showed up to ambush us in a supply raid, rebuilt from the ground up and now a CR 12 beastie with maximum health and 3 "lives", one for each of its heads, there was an epic battle that, for the first time in a long time, was properly challenging. The Path of War characters had certain auras though, and while Roland was dishing out tons of damage (he did enough on round 1 to have almost 1 rounded the default Soltengrebbe), he was also making the chimera very angry. He was brought below 0 HP twice in the fight, being healed up by our Life Oracle the first time, but both times he refused to stay down, as the other Warlord had an aura that gave every ally around him Die Hard. Roland thought he could end the chimera with one more mighty swing, and he did take its 2nd of 3 lives, but it lived, Roland was in the negatives, and the dragon head survived. With one last roar, now that its breath had recharged, Roland became a frozen fixture of the battlefield moments before Soltengrebbe met his end.

Name: Onura
Race: Tiefling
Classes/levels: Investigator 11
Adventure: Demon's Heresy (offshoot)
Location: Abaddon
Catalyst: A terrible thirst for knowledge

The Gory Details::
After she and a party member were sent to Abaddon after failing a save against a Mythic Prismatic Spray courtesy of Scorpi0n's stat block they went on an adventure to find someone who could plane shift them back, since no one in the party had that ability.

Trying to find their way to the Angelic Prison of The Menagerie they went to the River Styx to try to attract a Charonodaemon Ferryman to take them there since they had no real means of traversing the potentially infinite distances of Abaddon. They didn't have any of the existing methods of attracting a Charonodaemon, but they came up with a cool ritual offering that I figured could at least get some attention - after all, they're the Living Wardstones. Since it wasn't a really specific method of attracting their preferred daemon though, I randomized who came a-calling. And I rolled a natural 100. So I had Charon his-damn-self show up.

Charon killing them for being present sounded boring, and he's a guy who likes making deals, so I had them barter some evil artifacts to him in exchange for passage to the Menagerie. He nodded, then offered an option to Onura. He said he would be willing to reunite her with her parents. She knew that they had to be long dead, and said no. He offered to give her knowledge, and then a choice. She said yes.

He showed her the last stand of her parents against the monstrous Xanthir Vang; she saw her mother die, and followed the path of her soul as she came to rest in Heaven. Her father was not so lucky. She saw his soul get trapped in a gem by Xanthir Vang's Thanadaemon lackey.

Charon told her the gem still existed. That her father could still be brought back - but that she would flirt with Oblivion in so doing.

She made her choice.

She died.

Now she and her father are united in the gem...

at the entrance Marc moved to a closer position, which summoned a cultist who cast destruction. Rolled a 3, rerolled a 3, Decided not to surge to let the gm do something. Since i had taken a little damage the 200 was enough to bring me to 0 and vaporize the body. Marc enjoyed his vacation/right of passage all once mortal gods seem to follow, while waiting for his friends to curb stomp the guards. He was quickly brought back to life by a solar and balor working together using their high level SLAs (we had a scroll of true res if needed).

Marc keeps the party alive with regular or mythic deathless, swift action heal/ mass heal, the mythic ability to prevent death and another to prevent going unconscious.

Name: Deek Blackhammer
Race: Dwarf
Classes/levels: Barbarian 15/Chevelier 3, Champion 8
Adventure: The Ivory Labyrinth
Location: The Herald's Prison
Catalyst: Two Weapon Full Attack

The Gory Details:

Spoiler:
As the party oracle had gleaned the current layout of the Ineluctable Prison from the gold door in the vault, she managed to greater teleport the party into the Herald's prison with the group appearing around the floating silver disk where the Herald awaited them. Using Mythic Improved Initiative the herald acted first dropping a mythic blade barrier around himself to 10 feet striking both the paladin and the titan sized dwarf barbarian. The paladin stepped into the ring making his save while the Large size dwarf had to step out. The paladin fell victim to the Herald's two-weapon full attack dropping over 200 pts of damage. The dwarf flew up and over to float above the Herald before using a mythic vital strike to attack which was negated with the Herald's Block Attack mythic ability. While the Paladin did manage to wound the Herald with his Smite and full attack his dice were against him. The Herald's next turn in Dual Initiative sealed the fate of the Paladin with a series of criticals that the paladin couldn't fully negate using his Jingasa or Guardian's Sudden Block. The Dwarf barbarian fared little better with a far worse AC than the Paladin.

Being the fourth death in the campaign, Deek Blackhammer's soul declined to be resurrected.

The player of the dwarf champion switching out his character did a lot to even out the power curve of the party as his damage potential with a critical mythic greater vital strike and foe-biter swung the numbers I had to use building the mythic enemies too far out of whack for all the PCs to deal with, even using Sc8rpi8n_mjd's statblocks! The new Party balance with a magus/archmage brings them more in line with an APL 23 party.

Adventure: Demon's Heresy
Location: Wintersun Clanhold
Catalyst: A big mouth, an angry demon, and scry and die tactics
The Gory Details:

Spoiler:
The party had rushed from Drezen to Arueshalae's Redoubt, defeating Scorizscar on the road, and then immediately heading to the Wintersun Clanhold where we defeated Marhevok in single combat. While we were preparing to move the remaining clan to Drezen, Jerribeth, who we'd encountered once back in Kenebres, arrived with a mythic vrock and 2 other vrocks as backup. Millia, who decided to build for AC and be a 'tank' mouthed off while standing among civilians, taunting Jerribeth. A quickened unholy blight weakened her slightly and killed some civilians, and a Destruction obliterated her entirely.

Name: Nalin
Race: Hellbred (homebrew)
Classes/levels: Zealot 10 (3pp)|Guardian 4
Adventure: Demon's Heresy

Catalyst: Suicide by Teammate to prevent resurrection
The Gory Details:

Spoiler:
After Millia was Destroyed, the archmage was Dominated and Mythic Fireballed two of the party members with Jerribeth thanks to a badly worded order, killing her and weakening them. Or at least, she would have, if Nalin didn't opt to take additional damage and then choose not to mitigate it. Instead, Nalin died as well, in an effort to consume party resources and prevent the revival of Millia.

They both got better.

Adventure: Demon's Heresy
Location: The Ivory Sanctum
Catalyst: Player Abandonment and Angry Worms
The Gory Details: (optional)

Nalin's player has been complaining about Pathfinder as a system for some time now, and this finally came to a head as we were gearing up to confront Xanthir Vang with him leaving the game. Most of the players and the GM felt it was more important to the story to keep Nalin around rather than just have him mysteriously vanish, however, so he was botted for just a little bit longer before getting blasted by a Maximized Augmented Mythic Magic Missile and Quickened Disintegrate. He was the only death that fight, unfortunately, as the modified Xanthir managed to reform himself in a secondary swarm that survived the initial fireballs and teleport away.

***Spoilers***
My party decided to catapult themselves from across the Ahari river at the first tower, having cast fly upon themselves before cutting the rope. The first brimorak fired his fire ball into the air as the party came flying in and they made quick work of cutting him down as they flew over the battlements. They saw the remaining demons amass at the next tower over, but decided to stay put and destroy the catepult atop the tower before moving on. So, next round, when four fireballs came screaming towards the party from the opposite tower, it turned in to an angel roast with 3 failed saves and one successful for a total of 21d6.

Huh, I get to add this one...
Name: Dende
Race: Half Elf
Class: Wizard 5/Riftwarden7 Tier 6 Archmage
Adventure: Demon's Heresy
Catalyst: A critical, max damage Mythic Enervation to the face.

Details: Our encounter through Xanthir Vang's lair was going fairly well, and we had an answer to everything he threw at us. Finally, in his anger (Totally justified, my character is always angering everything we fight), he fires off a mythic enervation. The DM rolls to hit, and cringes. Rolls again, confirming the critical hit. And as he rolls that D6, his eyes go wide...

After confirming that yes, enervate damage does double, and if a 12th level character has 12 levels drained, it's kinda hard to bring them back without higher level spells. Full disclosure, this is only the second time this DM has killed me, and both times he's had ways of bringing me back because he doesn't want to figure out how to bring in a new character. For this, he did not have it slay me outright, I was instead turned into a Juju Zombie. After Xanthir Vang fled, the party used the luck blade we had found to 1) undo the negative levels and then 2) revive me. Still, I figured being turned into an undead, then technically dying from having my undead state reversed would be a fun read for some.

I've recently started this AP using non-mythic PCs. Instead I'm using the great suggestion someone posted of an increasing and refreshing Hero Point pool that each PC has instead of mythic points and abilities.
Just the same, I'll be posting deaths that needed to be "Hero Point saved" as I still consider those pretty legitimate deaths...

The Gory Details:

spoiler:
The group finished clearing out the haunted mausoleum and the cemetery when they triggered the Beast of Drezen's retaliation. The mythic chimera swooped down, breathing ice over the group and then landed to smash into the slayer with a mythic vital strike that nearly one-shotted him. Luther moved up to channel and bravely heal the group but unfortunately got a bit too close and managed to draw the chimera's attention as well. Soltengrebbe turned and full-attacked Luther hitting with both bites and popping a mythic point to trigger crushing jaws. Then both claws hit leaving the cleric very, very dead. Fortunately Luther had 2 Hero Points to spend to be luckily tossed aside before the last claw swing could decapitate him. A very tough but great fight all around!

Name: Tazandra
Race: Half-Elf (Mwangi)
Class/Level: Slayer 8
Adventure: Sword of Valor
Location: Drezen Citadel - Planning Room
Catalyst: Joran and his babau guards
The Gory Details:

spoiler:

The group had secured the ruins of Drezen and were sweeping through the citadel. They got to Joran's chambers in the Planning Rooms and Tazandra cautiously led the way in. She was unaware that Joran and his guards had heard the group fighting the minotaurs in the Officer's Court outside and were waiting for them. As Tazandra entered, one babau teleported behind her and two more stepped up stabbing at her with their longspears. Due to some crazy good rolls, the dual-wielding slayer was hit multiple times and with nearly maximum sneak attack damage. She tried to withdraw out of the flank but took another AoO that turned out to be a crit. Fortunately Taz had Hero Points so the blade coming for her neck was a bit off and haft of the spear knocked her out instead.
The Joran / Staunton fight turned out to be a lot of fun. (I had Staunton prep and come bursting into Joran's room from next door once he heard the disturbance with his guards.)

Class: Bloodrager 12, Dragon Disciple 4 Trickster 5
Adventure: Midnight Isles
Location: Lady N.s very private space
Catalyst: Rolling higher then he should have

The gory details:

Spoiler:

After rolling really high on some crits and behaving very properly within the midnight isles, including referring "I am totally a virgin and saving myself for someone special wink wink" to various personages there (none of whom believed that), the Aasimar uncharacteristally won Lady Ns. sponsorship, mythic vital strike decapacation a very surprised B. (the parties illusionists made a pretty annoying and distracting comment, and well, the bloodrager rolled pretty drat high while B was still giving a "I WILL KILL YOU ALL PUNY MORTALS" speech) Also helped.

As did attempting to kick B. severed head into his own anus, reasoning that if B. ressurrects in his home plane like this he will need to kill his closest guardians due to humilation if they saw him like that.

He did however failed to inform her that he was well, completely unexperienced in carnal matters. The recognition of the fact that B. Got decapaciated by a virgin, and that she was currently riding this virgin made N laugh so hard she climaxed (which our GM interpreted as a willpower save or D20 negative levels spell, of moderate difficulty because it was accidential on her part), he rolled a 1 she rolled a 20 for the level loss and well, luckily for him he had a friendly entity capable of casting resurection next to him.

His live afterwards:

Spoiler:

He had a nice character development overall. Starting out as a very grumpy war traumatized "Angry Mc. Angryface" Bloodrager, he at some points figured out that Demons fear humilation more then death. And then fully embraced being a prankster.
This sometimes frutrated party members. Once, he called in enough favors to have a very elaborate trap created involving a remote controlled anti gravity field item and an anvil sanctified to Torag, and was waiting patiently and for a long time until a demon finally walked under it. The rest of the group was like "can we effing go in and kill everything please?"

GM also ruled that Alyshinarra has abyssal plasma TVs and public viewing. Ever business savy, Nocticula claimed the media rights to his hijinks due to her patronage and sold them on a pay per view basis across the planes. He is aware and fine with this.
His most viewed hijinks are "Adran and the Anvil trap", "Adran makes ass and face meet" as well as "Adran presents his AmbASSadorial credentials to Iomedae".
If he hadnt settled for becoming Nocticulas herald, he may have ascended as a meme.

So he looked like these guys? Ooohhhhhhhhh myyyyyyy!

Playing it again:
Askold "Beerfiend" Magnusson, Kellid Skald
Race: Human
Class: Skald 6 Trickster 1
Adventure: 2nd Module
Location: A campsite

The gory details::

A little Quasit with delusions of grandeur got his hands on a wand of summons monster one. Making use of his dark vision, invisibility at well etc. he summoned monsters and told the to coup de grace Beerfiend, who had earlier vandalized a corpse painting he did. A dire rat succesfully stealthed up to the sleeping Beerfiend, who proceeded to to fail his con save and died. The little Quasit that could now enjoys his 15 minutes of fame, and recently starred on the unusually chill Balor Roganjoes Abysscast on Abyss-tube.

Beerfiend meanwhile got quickly raised from the dead.

So, after a two-year break, I've restarted my WotR campaign. Still using a rechargeable Hero Point Pool instead of Mythic but counting "Avoid Death" saves as proper deaths.
So on to "Death" #3:

Name: Luther
Race: Half-Elf (Shackles)
Class/Level: Cleric (Sarenrae) 10
Adventure: Demon's Heresy
Location: The Molten Scar
Catalyst: Vorimeraak (mythic vrock)
The Gory Details:

spoiler::

The group was searching through the southwest area of the Wounded Land looking for the source of the dream plaguing their paladin. They soon found the location of the ritual in the Molten Scar section. As the melee fighters rushed forward to engage the vrock troops, Vorimeraak saw the casters open in the back. She blasted a manic dance of ruin at the group and next round swooped down at the unguarded healer on the crater's edge. She swung her large-sized scythe at poor Luther and - in a most unlucky turn - rolled a "20" to hit and confirmed it with another "20". The x4 crit of the large scythe was enough to one-shot the poor cleric. Fortunately, Luther had 2 Hero Points to spend to luckily step forward and be knocked out by the scythe's haft before it could decapitate him.

"Death" #4 (saved by hero points again)...

Name: Tazandra
Race: Half-Elf (Mwangi)
Class/Level: Slayer 9 / Rogue 2
Adventure: Demon's Heresy
Location: "Retaliation" ambush outside Drezen
Catalyst: Charging drake rider
The Gory Details:

Spoiler:

:
The group had received their dream and was heading to rescue Arushalae. Unfortunately, they'd taken too much time exploring the Marchlands and the demons had taken the offense. The drake rider swooped down at the group of riders getting the initiative and hitting poor Tazandra with a ride-by spirited charge with his lance. She managed to survive the first hit, but then the drake rider swooped around and hit her again before she could dismount and get back to the healer. Fortunately she had the Hero Points to dive flat to avoid the attack.

Its really interesting, the rider tried to do this on Garg-mode (Beerfiend got a Magic greatsword with the alchemist spell list for monstrous physique), got tripped by the AoO, fell down 60 feet and got laughed at, before being unceremoniously squashed.
I dont think anyone else got a PC killed by a annoying quasit with a wand of summon monster, at level 6/mythic 1 :).

"Death" #5 (saved by hero points again)...

Name: Catherine
Race: Human (Brevoy)
Class/Level: Sorceress 11
Adventure: Demon's Heresy
Location: Ivory Sanctum
Catalyst: Jerribeth
The Gory Details:

spoiler:
The group had made quick work of the entrance guards and headed into the east wing. They met Jerribeth and decided not to take the glabrezu up on her offer for a wish... rightly suspecting betrayal anyway. Combat was joined and the healer was immediately stunned with a power word stun. Jerribeth's turn came up again with Dual Initiative and she looked around for a lower Fort save. Spotting the lightly armored caster in the back, she threw a Destruction at Catherine. Poor Catherine rolled a "2" and spent a Hero Point to reroll it... getting a "3". Sometimes the dice gods are cruel. Since the damage would have vaporized her, Cat fortunately still had the Hero Points to only be blasted unconscious by the destructive energy.

"Death" #6 (saved by hero points again)...

Name: Tazandra
Race: Half-Elf (Mwangi)
Class/Level: Slayer 9 / Rogue 3
Adventure: The Midnight Isles
Location: Midnight Fane - Grinder Room
Catalyst: Ursathella (lamia matriarch) and ash giant guards
The Gory Details:

spoiler:
The group had swept down through the first wing of the Fane, killing Mutasafen the alchemist and chasing off Minagho. They regrouped and proceeded into the Grinder room where they found Ursathella guarding the rift with her ash giants. Taz was the first one in and she quickly raced in slicing one of the giants a bleeding blow. She waited for her paladin flanking buddy to step up, but unfortunately the enemy was a bit faster. Ursathella cast haste on her giants and flew up out of range. The bleeding ash giant Taz was next to raised his heavy pick and did a hasted, full attack on the poor woman behind him. Fortunately, she was only knocked out by all the flying pieces of floor exploding around her and heroically returned to the fight.

"Death" #7 (saved by hero points as usual...)

Name: Hodir
Race: Winter Wolf (Irrisen)
Class/Level: Paladin 14
Adventure: The Midnight Isles
Location: Nahyndrian Mines
Catalyst: Melazmera (entropic umbral dragon)
The Gory Details:

Spoiler:
The group allied with the Fulsome Queen and waited for the dragon to return. When it flew in, the group spread out to avoid its breath weapon and to stay at range. All except Hodir that is. The paladin rushed forward smiting as he bit the creature. The dragon -being exceedingly smart- took the smite but now knew he was dealing with a paladin. The dragon used his 1/day smite law and ripped into the paladin. Hodir was the toughest member of the group, but even he couldn't stand up to a point blank, smiting, full attack from an angry dragon. Fortunately, Hodir had two Hero Points so despite the colossal beating, he was saved from death and left bleeding on the cavern floor while the rest of the group finished the dragon off.

Name: Ausk
Race: Half-Orc
Class/Level: Titan Mauler Barbarian
Adventure: Sword of Valor
Location: The Gibbering Swarm (Veskavor Caves)
Catalyst: Petrified in a Bonus Retriever Encounter

The Gory Details:

Spoiler:

Inspired by the CRPG, I placed an optional encounter with a Retriever Demon that my party elected to fight. One unlucky ray later, poor Ausk was turned to Stone. Luckily our heroes managed to bring him back thanks to a courier sent to Kenabres.

Name: Aegis Foundling
Race: Tiefling
Class/Level: Crusader Cleric of Iomedae/VMC Paladin 7
Adventure: Sword of Valor
Location: City of Drezen, Battle of Paradise Hill
Catalyst: Soltengrebbe

The Gory Details:

Spoiler:

Our heroes had split off from the army to take a nearby siege tower. However one of the fire demons holding the tower set off a flare, alerting Soltengrebbe to the heroes. With only three PCs and one NPC available for the session, Soltengrebbe was incredibly formidable. Our heroes managed to rout the siege engineers and demons of the tower, but with most of the PCs in single digit hit points, Aegis made the heroic decision to hold off Soltengrebbe so others could escape. The mythic chimera tore our champion limb from limb. A demon escaped with Radiance, and it was indeed a dark day. Our heroes have since managed to recover Radiance and most of Aegis' corpse, though he's still missing a leg.

A particularly deadly session this weekend.

"Death" #8 (saved by Hero Points)...
Name: Tazandra
Race: Half-Elf (Mwangi)
Class/Level: Slayer 13/Rogue 3
Adventure: Herald of the Ivory Labyrinth
Location: Lightless Maze
Catalyst: Father of Worms
The Gory Details:

spoiler:
The group went into the Father’s cavern. Taz tumbled around to get in her flank with the paladin and was promptly grabbed and fast swallowed. She was crushed in the Father’s guts for two rounds before finally cutting her way out. Weakened from being crushed and energy drained, she bravely tried to flank again. She was completely unprepared for how hard the Father’s greater vital strike was that knocked her flying across the cavern. The impact should have splattered her but she heroically managed to roll and only land unconscious.

"Death" #9 (saved by Hero Points)...
Name: Hodir
Race: Winter Wolf (Irrisen)
Class/Level: Paladin 16
Adventure: Herald of the Ivory Labyrinth
Location: Lightless Maze
Catalyst: Father of Worms
The Gory Details:

spoiler:
Hodir’s smites were taking a toll on the Father of Worms. But the nightcrawler was taking his toll on the group too (quickened cone of cold -> move action breath weapon -> 4d10 to greater vital strike are brutal!) The Father of Worms moved away from the paladin’s full attacks and threw all six of his summoned greater shadows at Hodir. The paladin proved rather easy to incorporeally touch and took 4d8 STR damage. This would have left him quite dead if his divine power hadn’t protected him leaving him merely unconscious from the blasts of negative energy.

"Death" #10 (Saved by Hero Points)...
Name: Catherine "Cat"
Race: Human (Brevoy)
Class/Level: Sorceress 16
Adventure: Herald of the Ivory Labyrinth
Location: Groaning Gates
Catalyst: Half-Fiend Greater Cyclops
The Gory Details:

spoiler:
The group moved up towards the Groaning Gates, triggering the arrival of the door guards. Cat flew around the edge of the landing to catch both of the cyclops in her area spells. Unfortunately, this left her dangerously close to the huge giants. One of the brutes went down but the other one turned and took a step towards the sorceress. A flash of brutality lit up its single eye and it let loose with a full attack from its huge glaive. A crit and several more hits would have left Cat quite dead if the edge of the landing hadn’t deflected several of the blows. The flying chunks of masonry left her unconscious but alive on the edge and her first wise words upon waking were “I should have cast a quickened mirror image first.” Another great session all around though.

I had my first a couple sessions ago but forgot to post it - Playing a 2E conversion:

Name: Centurion Bravik
Ancestry: Human Aasimar (Mendev)
Class/Level: Champion (Paladin) 2
Adventure: The Worldwound Incursion
Location: Shield Maze
Catalyst: Ill-fated crit fumble card against Neothholm traitors
The Gory Details:

Spoiler:
Bravik rolled a Natural 1 and got a crit fumble card that gave him a point of bleed damage. The very first fight in the Shield Maze was extremely taxing and the party ran out of combat healing to use, Bravik went down twice, and then could not roll a recovery check to save his life. All hero points got spent, and after a total of 13 failures over 9 rounds, Bravik bled out

"Death" #11 (still saved by Hero Points)...

Name: Tazandra
Race: Half-Elf (Mwangi)
Class/Level: Slayer 13/Rogue 6
Adventure: City of Locusts
Location: Soul Foundry
Catalyst: Khorramzadeh, the Storm King

The Gory Details:

spoiler:

The group cleared the Soul Foundry and took out Lord Stillborn and the Filleted Man fairly easily. They grabbed the Suture and triggered the arrival of the Storm King. The heroes hurried outside to take on the balor lord in the open and Taz immediately flew up and stabbed him. Despite the bleeding wound, the Storm King unloaded with an absolutely brutal full attack in return. Fortunately Taz was saved by Hero Points and the blessing of Iomedae so she only floated to the ground unconscious.

I forgot this one that also happened during the same fight.

"Death" #12 (still saved by Hero Points)...

Name: Hodir
Race: Winter Wolf (Irrisen)
Class/Level: Paladin 19
Adventure: City of Locusts
Location: Soul Foundry
Catalyst: Khorramzadeh, the Storm King

The Gory Details:

Spoiler:
As the fight with the Storm King was joined, Hodir soared into battle after a fly spell was cast on him. He provided an armored flank on one side for Tazandra to try and use to cause some significant damage to the balor lord. The paladin was able to stay in the fight until Khorramzadeh rolled a most unfortunate "20" and confirmed the critical hit. With no desire to lose his head to the balor lord's vorpal weapon, Hodir spent Hero Points to turn the crit into a normal hit and stayed in the fight.

Another couple of "deaths" in my non-mythic game that needed to be saved by Hero Points...

Death #13

Name: Tazandra
Race: Half-Elf (Mwangi)
Class/Level: Slayer 14/Rogue 6
Adventure: City of Locusts
Location: Threshold (Chapel Level)
Catalyst: Raspers in Crawling Chapel

The Gory Details:

Spoiler:
The heroes defeated the devastator in the entrance chamber and immediately heard the numerous worm-who-walks rasper priests in the next chamber pre-casting. The party barged in and as battle was joined the retrievers kept the group bottlenecked in the doorway. A barrage of half a dozen flamestrikes hit the door but this did little to hurt Taz who flipped out of the way repeatedly (evasion). Unfortunately, then she found herself in a barrage of mass inflict serious wounds spells. Her Reflex save being much, much higher than her Will save, she went down under a volley of inflicts and unholy blights. The negative energy would have killed her if she hadn't fortunately tumbled backward into the entrance chamber and out of the line of effect.

And Death #14

Name: Luther
Race: Half-Elf (Shackles)
Class/Level: Cleric (Sarenrae) 20
Adventure: City of Locusts
Location: Threshold (Chapel Level)
Catalyst: Katpaskir demons in Chapel of Wounds

The Gory Details:

Spoiler:
The group moved ahead, clearing the lower level of Threshold and came upon the Chapel of Wounds. The four katpaskir demons immediately scattered the party by each using their maze spells. Luther rolled very "lucky" on his INT check and was one of the first to return... right into a katpaskir that hit him with an empowered disintegrate ray. The bad FORT save he rolled would have resulted in him being turned to dust if he hadn't fortunately got Dawnflower's Kiss up in time. The artifact sword deflected the ray but the blast of energy knocked Luther unconscious but alive.

Rough week for my crew:

Name: Enzo Bim
Ancestry: Gnome from Katapesh
Class/Level: Life Oracle (7) Heirophant (2)
Adventure: Sword of Valor
Location: Citadel Drezen
Catalyst: Prolonged intimacy with a succubus
The Gory Details:

Spoiler:
Kiranda had been playing swashbuckler with the party for three sessions, learning their tactics and weaknesses, and generally helping them greatly as she was three levels higher than all of them. Well they made it to Staunton and she switched sides mid-battle, she immediately commanded the barbarian to flee with a dominate, and then grabbed the oracle and kissed him. He failed his save so couldn't resist the next round, and fell to a babau's spear attack before getting crit while at dying 2 by Kiranda's rapier.

Name: Ro'Bibi
Ancestry: Sylph Grippli
Class/Level: Druid 7 Elemental (2)
Adventure: Sword of Valor
Location: Citadel Drezen
Catalyst: Martyrdom

Spoiler:
The party at this point decides to flee and return. Their healer is dead, the bard was unconscious but stable, the druid also teetering. But before fleeing, Ro'Bibi decides to lightning bolt as many enemies as he can in one last desperate heroic action. Before he can flee a fiendish minotaur crits him with a charge and takes him to dying 2, and Kiranda swoops in to stab him for the final blow before revealing her true form.

Name: Sir Brill his Eminence
Ancestry: Beastkin from Neatholm
Class/Level: Bard/Champion (7) Heirophant (2)
Adventure: Sword of Valor
Location: Citadel Drezen
Catalyst: Holding the door
The Gory Details:

Spoiler:
Brill held the door from Staunton's chambers to the map room, keeping both Staunton and the fiendish minotaurs at bay while the rest of the party tried to take care of Kiranda and the babaus. One can only take so many minotaur attacks before you fall though, and thus the valiant fell. As the session ended, Brill was not dead but has been abandoned by everyone else and left for dead.

Kiranda is fun. I tend to run her as a mercenary, who can be bluffed (the most likely to suceed bluff is a character pretending to be a Nocticulan infiltrator ordered by the lady in Shadow to kill Staunton Vhane) or bribed.

One party convinced her to take a level in vigilante, in order to have a non smiteable vigilante identity. She now sells vigilane costumes in Alyushinyrra, and is making a killing because a Paladin nicknamed "the warcrime that walks" by the demons (which is a lie, he mostly flies) left a bit of an impression.

Especially after he killed Gelderfang with a wooden spoon.
