Skill Specialization, what does it mean?

Rules Questions

I was reading about Skill Specialization in the Society field guide. How does this work? You can spend Prestige to become specialized in a skill? Its kind of confusing.

I've not seen it in writing, but I've been told Skill Specialization means it becomes a class skill. If it's already a class skill, you gain a +1 to those skill checks.

(Basically dotting to confirm this, haha)

^ This is true. It is explained in the Field Guide for PFS.

Many of the prestige awards and recognitions or resources that faction members purchase allow a character to become specialized in a skill. When a PC becomes specialized in a skill, that skill immediately becomes a class skill for her. If the PC gains that skill as a class skill from any other source (either before or after you purchase the prestige resource), she gains a +1 competence bonus on those skill checks.

yea yea i read that too, doesnt say the cost to do this. Or if you need a set amount of prestige. It doesnt really say much about it.

The cost depends on the cost of the vanity that provides the skill specialization.

Skill specialization is NOT a vanity on its own, it is something that is provided by purchasing a vanity that says it provides skill specialization with skill X.

E.G. Eagle Knight provides skill specialization in Diplomacy, requires that your Andoran faction PC has a Fame of 20, and spends 1 PP to obtain the vanity.

depends on the way you get it.. My Taldane Cleric.. She had a few vanities that gave her specializations.

Baroness Roasa Annarey Hellena Delaphine del Noire (yeah.. long name. :D ) has the following:

-Lion blade.. gives her specialization in Disguise.
-Noble Title gives her specialization in Knowledge (Nobility)

Some others include..

-Honorific (Lantern Lodge.. so it's not accesable anymore) gave you Diplomacy.
-The Constant (Osirion) gives you Intimidate
-Trade Prince (Qadira) gives you appraise.
-Captain (Andoran) gives you Perform (Oratory)
-Caravan Traveler (Scazarni) knowledge (local)

And more are out there.

It also came on some Gencon boons. I asked my next GM what it was, not realizing it was covered in the field guide. Now I feel silly for bothering him.
