Bonewrack Isle

GM Discussion

I am planning on running my first Society event, does anyone have experience with Bonewrack Isle as far as pitfalls or complicated that you ran into with your players?

Bonewrack Isle:
Almost all of its dangerous encounters are swimming or underwater. This can be very, very deadly.

Andrew,

Is this something I should warn non-pregen players about ahead of time?

I would just tell them that they are going through a pirate based adventure, and to plan according to what they think might be involved with a pirate based adventure.

If they have to leave and go back because they don't have any water breathing or ability to swim, when you tell them its a pirate based adventure, that's their own fault in my opinion.

You should let your players know that they will be facing situations involving being in the water as well as potentially having to fight in and under the water

Why? That's part of the challenge of the situation. If you tell them they are going on an pirate adventure, and they don't choose to prepare for water, that's their own fault.

disagree
you say 'pirate', I say 'water'
and we both go our separate ways

The problem is, when I say Pirate, it allows them to make assumptions and doesn't necessarily spoil anything.

If you say that there will be water, swimming, and underwater encounters, then you basically spoil a large portion of the dungeon.

still disagree
at this point, without knowing more from the OP on why he is choosing to run Bonewrack as his first Society event and how much his prospective players know about the Adventure Path and/or how much PFS they have played, I am not really keen on going back and forth with you

I am running this event at a Pirate Themed convention, and I already have the materials. As far as prospective players I do not know. There is no society representation in this area yet that is closer than 2 hours away.
