A Druid, a Rogue, and Me Walk into a Tavern...

Advice

Hello Everyone,

I normally have 1001 character ideas, but, I'm really stumped with what to play for our new campaign. So, I'm seeking the advice of the great people on the boards to help me come up with a solid class combo that can meet the needs of the group.

There are a few stipulations:

First, I have agreed to be the groups crafter (via Craft Wondrous Items). So, I need at least 3 caster levels (or one level in a caster class w/ the Magical Knack trait).

Second, the rest of the party has completely dumped charisma, so, it would be nice for my character to fill the role of the party face.

Third, I've played a lot of melee fighters and bruisers so I'm wanting to try something different this time.

We are using 20pt buy and all non-third party Pathfinder is allowed. Starting at 5th level. The campaign will be very episodic, so, I can't say for certain what type of monsters we will be fighting. In general, a more versatile build would be best, I think.

The three PCs are:

1. A CN human caster Druid 4/Monk 1 (Martial Artist archetype) with a lion animal companion. They took a level of monk just to get the WIS to AC.
2. A CG/CN halfling Filcher Rogue 5 specializing in Steal/Disarm and Knowledge skills.
3. And me.

I've been thinking of everything from Synthesist to Hexcrafter to Ranger. As you can see, I have no idea where to go with this. Please help...

If you happen to go magus(or another int based character), you may want to pick up the student of philosophy trait so you can cover the diplomacy type skills. Opens up diplomacy type things to more than just charisma based casters. I'd go magus myself, but I don't know if that qualifies as a melee bruiser to you or not. Sylvan sorcerer can cover a variety of things, but it might step on the druids toes a bit and not everyone digs pets.

I'd say go straight summoner.

you can shore up the arcane casting/face/crafting yourself, and your eidolon will be a welcome support for the melee side of things

That trait is AMAZING. I will be taking this trait if I go an Int based class.

Ya...the magus does side on the Bruiser for me. I want to be able to accomplish more in and out of combat than just damage. I've also played a kensai and wasn't too keen on it (pun intended)

I'm alternating GM responsibilities with a 4th player. They are playing a Fey Blooded Sorcerer but their character won't be around when he GMs (aka, when I'm playing). The rest of the group wants us to take similar roles - i.e. arcane and diplomacy...

...But, I think a sylvian sorcerer is too close to his character. I want my PC to have it's own identity.

Summoner is a good choice if you like the concept. You'll probably buff or debuff while your Eidolon is the beat-stick.

The other cha-based spell caster is oracle, which are very versatile on their own, with lots of different mysteries to choose from, and if your DM allows all non-3rd party material then with a half-elf or racial heritage (half elf) you can later use paragon surge with expanded arcana and eventually improved eldritch heritage for any spell when you need it (uses a 3rd level spell per use, lasts 1 min/level).

What would be the best summoner archetype for a small party?

no archetype

Shadow Lodge

base summoner is good for this group. You could instead make a melee focused conversion domain infiltrator inquisitor and have a high wisdom, and get 2x it on diplomacy checks. Oracle is a great suggestion (oh look, a class that can dump dex). If you go magus, a bladebound hexcrafter magus could be nice. The soulforger is focused on crafting things, but I think it is a bit of a trap archetype if I remember correctly.

Would it be best to go divine or arcane with this group? Or does not having an arcane Caster not that important?

Thanks for the advice everyone! I think I'm going to go for a half elf nature oracle with the mount revilation and eldritch heritage feat to grab a Hawk familiar to deliver touch spells. Sorry of a bad touch cleric type deal.

I suggest the Inquisitor. Part Bruiser, Part Healer, all great.

Heck, take Animal Domain (Feather) and get an Animal Companion. With Boon Companion Feat you are set.

Brother Kalven and his tiger Hobbz. I can see it now.
