Disclaimer: Before anyone attaches the Evil character = bad/mean/etc. player to this, we're talking about either/both role-playing evil or benefiting from the mechanical advantages of running an Evil character. None of us espousing the fun and opportunities of Evil have any intention of allowing that to be an excuse for griefing.

Thank you for that last paragraph, as I totally agree, and this cannot be stressed enough.

Those of us who GM for the tabletop RPG understand the necessity of a good villain, to spur the heroes onward and upward. And there's a lot of fun to be had, designing a nemesis, a foil, a recurring obstacle for your friends round the table.

But it's a balancing act, to create villains the PCs can love to hate, without going too far into territory that potentially sets off the players' triggers.

The best villains, the ones who will be remembered are not the screaming rabble, but the ones who have a bit of class. Moriarty, Doctor Doom, Ozymandias, the ones whose actions may be reprehensible, but their aims understandable, sometimes even justifiable. And their manners, their breeding, their sportsmanship, can often be without equal.

Just because characters aims may be at odds, doesn't mean players have to be rude to one another.

I've watched your postings on the forums, and I'm happy to give you, Deacon, Morbis, and other ranking officers in Golgotha the benefit of the doubt, that you will all be able to live up to that ideal.
This is important for the future of PFO, that it contain a proven, workable example, of how to responsibly play evil PCs, without it spiraling into toxic gameplay. This good example ensures that when the doors open to the general public, they are steered away from those negative playstyles, toward something that can support the game, rather than destroy it.

And on a personal note;

You can see by my post history, and the posts I faved, that I have supported Golgotha's right to exist in-game, their right to compete in the Land Rush, and the right for meaningful PvP to exist.

While my support may not have been the deciding vote, swaying the staff's decision, with my persuasive oratory, for a while it did look as if Golgotha's very existence had been thrown open to public vote, and I believed a principle needed to be defended.

Hopefully, when the Board of Evil gather round the Table of Evil, in the Boardroom of Evil, to discuss their Evil plans for spreading Evil, that support during a critical time will actually count for something.

For Golgotha to maintain a reputation for integrity, it is in their interests to show that they reward those that stand firm and do right by them.

Loyalty is something that cannot be bought. If you try then more the fool are you, as it is invaluable. On the same side of that coin, loyalty is usually garnered by providing opportunities for people to enhance themselves; Loyalty is rooted in self interest.

Golgotha supports it's members. It doesn't want them to be kept down and under it's thumb, it wants them to achieve greatness.

And with our greatness we'll be able to work together to bring all the land under Golgotha's rule! To show the region how best to run an ordered and peaceful society

Since Golgotha is the largest (and perhaps oldest?) known Evil settlement, perhaps I should have posted this here, but I would hate to be flagged for double posting...so just a link. :)

Why not play Good?

Simple, because it's boring.
