Combination Armor

Rules Questions

So, say, a character is wearing a regular suit of armor and an Armored Kilt. The Kilt's rules say it can be worn with another suit of armor and adds its AC bonus.

Am I correct in assuming that if both the regular armor and the Kilt are enchanted to +1, you don't get both +1s? It's a little confusing since the enhancement bonus is to the kilt's AC bonus, which does explicitly stack/add, but for sanity's sake, I'm assuming it doesn't.

Regardless of that answer ... if the armor and the kilt have different special abilities on them, would the wearer get the benefit of all of them?

No. I base this on the rules for enhancing piecemeal armor, you only get the enhancements of the "biggest" piece.

[[[And a kilt doesn't add its Armor Bonus to that of another, it adds 1 to the armor bonus of another armor(IIRC). ]]] scratch that.

It says nothing about stacking on the d20pfsrd, or even that it add to armor bonus. So I think the idea is that you can have an enchanted kilt and wear it with different mundane armors getting the enhancements from the kilt and the base armor from the better one.

Interesting.

Actually if the armor bonus from the kilt truly does stack with armor suits then enhancing the kilt would indeed stack with enhanced armor. And yes the special abilities of both would be usable. Keep in mind I don't own AA so I can't check the exact wording.

Honestly, it's simpler to treat it as a pair of Bracers of Armor in terms of magical enhancements.

For those who don't have access to the text:

Armored Kilt:

Armored Kilt
Cost: 20 gp
Armor\Shield Bonus: +1
Max DEX: +6
Armor check penalty: 0
Arcane spell failure: 0%
Weight: 10 lbs.

When you add an armored kilt to a suit of light armor, the set counts as medium armor. Likewise, a kilt and medium armor counts as heavy armor. Adding an armored kilt to heavy armor has no effect.

So there is no adding of armor bonuses...

I would still say if they both are magically enhanced you only get the benefit of one armor, the kilt or the other suit, but not both. But you get the armor bonus of the other suit, which is probably higher.

So it wouldn't "stack," it's just an extra +1. Would be great for maxing out bonus enchantments on your armor though.

There's no +1 in the description(I misremembered). It just has the ability to be integrated into another suit of armor, increasing the weight catagory and choosing the worst downsides(Max. dex, ACP, ASF) and best armor bonus.

Maybe one could rule it transfers enhancements, but from the piecemeal armor rules, I would still say they don't stack.(the general rule when wearing multiple suit of armor is: only one suit grants benefits, but both restrict the wearer).

The text under the armor table rather unhelpfully says '* Can be worn alone or added to existing suits of armor.' Not significantly detailed enough to really call it on RAW.
